Anyone ever experienced racism

So your essentially saying that the guys that went on the court in banana suits shouting racial slurs. Did this due to various policies?sleeper;1080961 wrote:I don't know what you are not getting. AA and hiring quotas indoctrinate people to not respect minorities. When minorities want to free themselves from the oppressive(yet monetarily advantageous) policies, then people will start respecting minorities and racism can slowly subside. -

That is your reality not the "real worlds". No matter how much you regurgitate the same talking points even in sitiuations where they make absolutely no sense. The vast majority of hs students cant even close to thinking about AA. So once again you fail tremendously.sleeper;1080971 wrote:Yes. Welcome to reality. -

Link? I definitely thought about AA when I was in high school. Do you agree or disagree with AA? Remember, its only racist if it doesn't help black people equally, not if it harms white people.rmolin73;1080977 wrote:That is your reality not the "real worlds". rmolin73The burden of proof is on the accuser. When you provide a link that correlates racist actions coming from the thought of AA and other policies then I'll provide one. Good luck.

It's from Harvard Business School, so I understand that it might not be a valid source. If you need help, PM LJ, he loves to ask for links to studies, not read them, and say the source is faulty or the study is invalid.
I'll be awaiting your links. -
rmolin73Another failure on your part I see. No where and I repeat no where in that study does it link blatant racist actions to affirmative action. Nor does it refute my statement that the vast majority of hs kids aren't thinking about aa. Keep trying though you might luck out.

I find your response predictable and notable that you didn't read the study. And if you did, you weren't reading hard enough.rmolin73;1081024 wrote:Another failure on your part I see. Do you know why racism exists? I'd be curious as to what you believe the reason that people are racist.
Ignorance is a cop out. If ignorance is your reason, please explain what knowledge they are lacking. Also simply stating that they were raised to be racist ignores the question, I'm looking for the reason you think a racist person is racist. -

Wow, sorry to hear about all of that Big Kahuna.bigkahuna;1080835 wrote:I've either witnessed it or experienced it a few times in my life.
1. While in hs, my buddies and I would walk across the street to this arcade/pizza joint for lunch (before we could drive). There were a few kids there that graduated a few years prior and still lived at home and had no jobs. For about 2 weeks straight, this one guy called me everything in the book; a new one each day (Black, Mexican, Middle Eastern...). I finally got pissed one day and went off on him about making up his mind; said something to the effect that once he decides, I'll mold myself to the stereotype and reminded him that "******s carry guns and Spics carry knives, so choose wisely". He never said another word to me.
2. When my wife and I first started dating, she told me she was afraid to introduce me to her dad because of how he had acted in the past in general to minorities. This was almost 5 years ago, and we didn't know I was black at the time.
3. This one still bugs me. Two years ago, I found my biological father (left when my mom was prego). Turns out he's black. I grew up thinking I was Italian and Native American(Native American is true) because my mom wanted to protect me in my small farm town where there was only 3 black people out of about 5,000. This part, while troubling, I can understand. However, my wife made the comment "I wish I would have known you were black before we got married." We've been married for 2 1/2 years. I still don't know what she means, but it still bothers me. I might have to ask her about it.
4. My wife now does the hiring for aids at her place of employment. She hired a few "black girls from Detroit" as she put it (I think 4-5 in the last 6 months). Each one has been fired because of dress code, hygiene, bad work, or a mix of the 3. Now, she says she won't hire "one of them (black girls from Detroit) again because they're ghetto and bad workers. So, if they sound ghetto (Shanequa for example), she'll toss their resume aside. She always does a ghetto black girl voice when talking to me about their interviews. I don't know if this can be called racism or not. She's experienced enough of a similar background of people to not hire someone similar again. Also, she says it's usually because they either A. Call 5 times a day about an interview or B. Look like **** when they do come in (dirty, messy....)
After typing this, I'm actually really bothered about my wife. She always makes jokes about me being black (all in good fun; never hurtful or intended to be anyway), but I've realized a pattern. She said she was worried when we finally have kids because of the threat of "nappy hair." I'm only 1/2 black, and my hair is just really thick and doesn't have that coarse, wirery feel to it, so it's odd she would make that statement. I need to do some soul searching...
Fortunately my wife is pretty cool with everything. Of course, she has know my heritage as long as she has known me. Like you though my features could be confused with several different ethnic origins (people tell me I look a lot like A-Rod's older brother).
I do recall a few people back in the day do a double take when they saw my dad or uncle, but I never heard any comments made about it.
Sounds like you and the Mrs. need a serious heart to heart -

Or you are just a racist dumbass. Or you are an ignorant black dude. Which is it?Mooney44Cards;1078912 wrote:Yep, that's totally what I'm saying guys.
Orrrrr I was just predicting that a bunch of white dudes were gonna come in here and claim racism and no where did I say that racism against white people is non-existent. -
rmolin73Sleeper as far as your question regarding affirmative action. I am totally against it. I believe that it may have been beneficial many, many years ago but just like the NAACP it is not as necessary. My thoughts are that you will not be able to undue several years of racism by invoking dated policies that have become racist themselves. Why should I hire or give a scholarship to a black person with lower test scores but from a good background and overlook a white person that has superior test scores?
But I will continually say that most high school kids are unaware of what affirmative action really is. As well as it not being linked to overt racist acts. Now does it cause more biases, resentment, and prejudices against minorities? I would say yes. -

She really truly loves me. It's just the fact that she/we didn't know about IT until after we got married. She grew up in an upper scale suburb of Detroit where there weren't too many ethnic people around. It was the type of place where the thought was "There's a black person, hide your purse." type of place.Little Danny;1081215 wrote:Wow, sorry to hear about all of that Big Kahuna.

As far as our relationship goes, it was more so the fear of the unknown than any actual hatred or something. It's still racism I know. Even with the kids having nappy hair thing, I think the comment came from fear of the unknown... "How would I (long flowing blonde hair) comb, wash, do... hair like that?!
When we went to Shaker Heights to meet my dad and his family for the first time, she was VERY WORRIED because for the first time, SHE was the minority. My dad, step mom, sister, aunt, and grandma are obviously all black. Then went to a street fair that was an African American Art/Crafts type of street fair, so she stuck out with a sore thumb (with her long blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin). The comments that I posted above were made shortly after I told her that I had found my biological father and that he was black.
However, I did talk to her about her work situation when she first mentioned it and how serious is it to judge someone like that in her position.
I am going to talk to her about what I've posted to see what she actually says. I'll give a recap on here once we've had "THE TALK"
At least now, it's just some good natured ribbing. I've always said off color stuff about EVERYONE and EVERYTHING before; kind of like Lisa Lampanelli. So, as far as that goes, I'm cool with it. Even my friends asked me things like "Can I say that word around you still?" or "Do you feel any different?" I told everyone to act the same because the fact that I'm dark because I'm black doesn't change who I am. I think it took a lot of people some time to realize that black BK was the same as the "old BK" -

I don't like the term "reverse" racism. It's just racism. Any person of any race can experience racism. There is no "reverse" part of it unless you feel it only goes one way, then it would be "reversed".Thinthickbigred;1082714 wrote:Let me get this right .
