Worst Loss You Ever Had to Take
-
thePITmanWhat is the worst loss you ever had to take in any sport, either as a player, coach, or fan?
-
goosebumpsPlayer, a 9-0 loss my sophomore year in soccer in the sectional semifinal to a team we tied in the regular season.
Fan: when UC got beat by Florida in the sugar bowl. -
Wildcat24Indians 2 outs away from winning the 97 World Series is #1, because they haven't yet won it all to dull the heartbreak.
Watching my alma mater (Mogadore) get destroyed in two straight state finals in 00 and 01 is #2. They came back and won the title in 02, so those losses are greatly lessened now. -

Pick671-0 against Shadyside, second round of the playoffs.
Our coach apparently snubbed a good Shadyside player for an all-star game a few years prior. So Shadyside coach got back at us by running up the score in the playoffs. (Note that Shadyside made the finals that year and beat every other team up til the finals by about 40 points).
I was only a sophomore and special teams player that year, so it wasnt much my fault. -
said_aouitaDoes losing my mind in a bike accident count?
or
The state track meet where we missed 1st place by a couple feet in the 3200m relay. Or could be the state XC meet in which I was leading with about 2/3rds of a mile left but choked and ended up 4th.
Or could be the Kinney nationals XC regional qualifier where I was in position to be the final qualifier to nationals, but got passed by the Ohio state champ (very similar as the state meet) to miss out.
Tom Woods, you bastard.

Midstate01As a girls soccer coach at fairfield union. It was our first ever season. We had maybe 3 girls who had ever played before. We played new Albany who was ranked #2 in the state. We were down 11-0 at the half. They played their starters the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half and put us down 17-0. Then they put in their jv's and told them not to score. Lol. Funniest part was, after the game the coach from NA told us "to be nice, he will only tell the dispatch it was 12-0". Lol

As a fan, hands down the worst loss and feeling I've ever felt. -
JesterSenior year in basketball. Was up by like 8 with a minute left on our in-county rivals Shenandoah. Ended up losing when they stole the inbounds pass with only a few seconds left and scored to win the game. Completely stunned. Couldn't believe what just happened.

End of LineAs a fan, USA losing to Canada in OT for the Gold Medal in the 2010 Olympics.
Don't really know about as a player.. -
thePITmanAs a player: Triway's 20-14 loss to Orrville in football at home my Junior year (2003). We were ahead with just over a minute to go when they scored a TD, then we watched as their onside kick to the weak side went right between the legs of a Senior. I was on the Hands Team, but on the other side of the field. They recovered the onside kick and marched down for the game-winning TD.
As a part-time coach and fan: baseball district championship, Triway lost to Canton Central Catholic 10-8 in 9 innings. We led 6-0 going into the bottom of the 5th inning. They scored 3 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. Then in the bottom of the 7th, we botched a routine double-play ball (DI 2B and DI SS) that would have ended the game, then watched as they rallied for 2 runs to tie it. In extra innings, we scored in the top of the 8th, only to see them tie it in the bottom of the 8th. In the top of the 9th, we hit a homer to take a lead, only to watch them hit a walk-off 3-run home run in the bottom of the 9th. CCC had knocked us out of the tournament the 3 prior seasons, so they had been the thorn in our side, and still are. Then we watched as CCC went on to win the state championship in DIII. We finished 21-3.
It's only been a year, but I hope someday we will avenge that loss and make the pain slightly less. -

sportchamppsMy senior year in soccer we lost 2-0 to kilbourne in the regional finals. We had a goal robbed from us when a kilbourne defender reached out and smacked a ball away with his hand and instead of getting a pk and playing up a man the rest of the game it went uncalled. Thomas worthington ended up winning states that year and we were their only loss that season. We had beat Thomas to win the occ 2-0 earlier in the year. Our coach screwed us out of a top seed anyways. When the coaches went to vote for seeding he put us second behind Thomas even though we had the same record and had beat them already ( his son played for Thomas) and he voted Westerville north 3rd. The Westerville north voted his team first and didn't rank us so he could have home field during the state playoffs. In the end we were seeded 2nd by one vote bc of that bs.

OSHI lost a couple of soccer games in high school by 15-0 or 16-0. My high school team was awful.
In college, I lost a game 8-0 or something like that. The team that beat us was full of Africans and South Americans...average age was 27-28.
As a coach, we lost a game 5-0 this year. It sucked. Head coach was red-carded and I got a yellow. The referees were awful. But, it was the last game of a VERY long season. I think previously coaching, we had lost a game 6-0 or something like that to a team that ended up winning the National Championship.
As a fan, I hated seeing the Packers lose this year in the playoffs. It was really disappointing. The other disappointment is probably with the USMNT in South Africa, losing to Ghana. -
Terry_TateAs a fan it's probably the Ohio State loss to Florida iin the BCS Championship game. There's been a few crushing losses but that took the cake.
-
GoChiefsLogan's loss to Louisville, 7-0, in the 2008 playoffs.
Logan's 13-45 loss to eventual State Champs, Upper Arlington, in the 2000 Regional Championship game. -

As a fan- 2006 Michigan/OSU Game. That's the only time I've ever cried after a game as a fan.
As a player- either 2002 playoffs vs. Urbana down in Piqua 2nd Rd. of Div 3 playoffs because of how much of an surprise our team was. (It was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but we won the first playoff game in about 10 years). It was one of those magical rides that ended. OR 2003 1st round playoffs vs. Cincy Wyoming. It was a home game and we went ahead with about 10 seconds left after we lateraled the FK (They took a safety). It was called back because they called the lateral illegal forward pass.... That game/call was full of controversy.
As a coach- The last one I was able to coach while volunteering during Undergrad. It was more so that I wasn't going to be able to coach with the school anymore because I was w/o a doubt going to get a job with a different school district.
