Yes, but you said I lost to all state champs, which was proven wrong. If you said I lost all state title matches, then you would be correct. Nice fail though.SnotBubbles;1065019 wrote:Not in the state championship. Winning only counts as winning when you win.
I would take losing in the state finals a million times over trying to kill myself and posting about it.
No, I won that tournament.ernest_t_bass;1065021 wrote:The runner up medal, right? -

I would take losing every match ever over that. Of course, I never won a wrestling match in my career.like_that;1065032 wrote:Yes, but you said I lost to all state champs, which was proven wrong. If you said I lost all state title matches, then you would be correct. Nice fail though.

How is the coaching going? Serious question.justincredible;1065052 wrote:I would take losing every match ever over that. Of course, I never won a wrestling match in my career. -

It's going well. Tomorrow is the last "practice" but it's going to be our end of the year party. We'll be playing games, getting pizza, and watching the varsity wrestle a dual. Last tournament is on Sunday. I have a handful of kids that will be solid wrestlers in high school if they stick with it. The varsity coach wants to move me up to a paid gig with the middle school team next season. I'm not sure if I'll be able to give the time commitment for that, but I'll hopefully be able to swing it.ernest_t_bass;1065060 wrote:How is the coaching going? Serious question. -

Me too. Good thing I never actually tried to kill myself.like_that;1065032 wrote:I would take losing in the state finals a million times over trying to kill myself and posting about it. -

That would be a good opportunity. Coaches, at any scholastic level, don't get paid NEAR enough for the time that they put in. Except CC/Track coaches. They don't deserve to get paid anything, obvi.justincredible;1065064 wrote:It's going well. Tomorrow is the last "practice" but it's going to be our end of the year party. Yeah, I'd assume the pay would be a couple hundred bucks, maybe? I really have no idea and am not too worried about that. It is a filthy rich private school, though, so maybe I could quit my day job (of being unemployed).ernest_t_bass;1065069 wrote:That would be a good opportunity. not sure the point of that? Wheeling is at least an hour drive to Parkersburg, Weirton is at least an hour and a half.said_aouita;1064889 wrote:Yea but WV only has like six high schools and half are in or near Parkersburg. -

I take it you are coaching jr high? What program? It's a whole different ball game isn't it?justincredible;1065064 wrote:It's going well. Technically, it's not a ball-game.like_that;1065213 wrote:I take it you are coaching jr high? What program? It's a whole different ball game isn't it?
But, from what his previous thread stated... he was coaching a youth program. He just got an offer to quit his job (unemployment) to assist a Jr. High wrestling program. -
thavoiceThose state titles by UA is impressive. the only thing that really doesnt make it a huge deal is how many places actually have school sanctioned teams in those sports?
That is the only thing that makes it a little different. -

If you are going to brag, make sure you tell everyone that you were a junior in high school.ernest_t_bass;1064978 wrote:I beat the 4th grade bowling champion. I didn't get a medal.
I was looking for team titles. St.Paris Graham is at a level well above everyone else when it comes to wrestling and they are a public school which makes it more impressive.said_aouita;1064787 wrote:Do individual state titles count or only team state titles? If individual state titles, I'll guess Lakewood St Edward or St Paris Graham in wrestling.
Why would it be impossible for a small school to accomplish this compared to a large school, they compete against other small schools for the title.Hamler Bulldogs;1064856 wrote:It's almost impossible for small schools to accomplish this feat, now D1 schools,it could happen, more kids just playing 1 sport.
What is the most team titles won in a single year?justcompete;1064944 wrote:I think Upper Arlington has the most individual/team titles in the state with over 100. They have a whole wall filled with nothing but state championships. Pretty impressive. -
thavoiceGraham is a public power for wrestling, but wrestlers gravitate to there from the region like they do to private schools for other sports.

Yeah, I kinda just skimmed his post. Coaching youth would be miserable, but somebody has got to do it. Jr High coach is a VERY important position though. A good MS school can help HS programs go from nothing to a formidable program for years to come.ernest_t_bass;1065231 wrote:Technically, it's not a ball-game.

Anyway Justin, which school would the Jr High feed into? -

As for coaching youth, it hasn't been too bad. Luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) the program is small so at any given practice I only have 9 or 10 kids there. -

I had two HS coaches when i wrestled. The first one didn't give a shit about the JR High program, and he just hired some ass hat. That ass hat would have a team of about 12-15 guys (not good at all for wrestling), and of course maybe 8 at most of those guys would go on to the HS level. Luckily we had transfers at the HS level that helped, but the JR high program was hurting. Once the new coach came, he put in more time with the Jr High, and its starting to pay off big time for him. It's like a minor league system.ernest_t_bass;1065299 wrote:QFT. Most coaches don't realize this... especially most JH coaches.
Yeah thats not bad at all. Our youth program has over 150 kids, they have to split practices up by age/weight. Dealing with 150 kids at a tournament would drive me insane. I have reffed those youth tourneys, and those parents are ridiculous.justincredible;1065305 wrote:Summit Country Day. A very small D3 private school that my wife works for.

There are a lot of big youth programs here in Cincinnati. Moeller had 125 kids last season, but they were split up in to 5 "groups" based on skill, age, and weight. -
