The Hunger Games

dwccrewMy gf is raving about this book. Sounds like a different twist in the Twilight genre. Will not read.
-
bigdaddy2003The preview doesn't do it a lot of justice from a movie guy's perspective. I won't go see it.

NWIndianNation01My wife and I have both read the books and absolutely love them. I actually just finished the first one for the second time as I want to see how close the movie will be...I am a masochist in that way.
Since I read the first again, now of course I have to read the whole thing over.
The books ARE meant for the young adult crowd, but don't really fit into the teenie bopper girl category at all. There is enough killing in them to make it manly ENOUGH.
People have pretty much nailed it on the head in regards to what they are about. The only thing I can add is it isn't really different "countries", but rather different cities across North America that they call districts...almost similar to a concentration camp. The Capitol, which is actually the name of the Capital of the country is located in Denver.
However, it really doesn't have that much of a post-apocalyptic feel to it...more of just a different world (although they do explain that the earth was destroyed because of a world war).
I would recommend these books to anyone and everyone of all ages, genders, backgrounds, etc. Probably some of my favorite books....behind Harry Potter of course. -
NWIndianNation01Watched the full trailer and it has my wife and I pretty pumped for this movie....March 23rd can't get here fast enough. However, since I did just read the book again, I can already tell I will be disappointed, just from a few small things I saw in the preview.

What part of trailer disappointed you -

That movie was The Condemned. It was pretty good too. You knew that Stone Cold was going to make it out though lol.McFly1955;1049180 wrote:Sounds like that one movie with Stone Cold Steve Austin a few years ago...Bunch of criminals on an island trying to kill each other on live TV, and the winner got set free.... -

I don't know that I'd call it pretty good. More of a "so bad, it's good" sort of thing where you're entertained (at least if you're with a good buzz), but know you're watching pure crap.Iliketurtles;1074137 wrote:That movie was The Condemned. iclfan2Well I started reading it, about halfway through. It's pretty good so far.

bigdaddy2003I caught another preview for the movie tonight. I just cant get interested.

The second book took awhile to get going I thought, but ended great -
NWIndianNation01To fully explain why I was disappointed in the trailer I would have to re-watch it and take notes...don't really have time for that. However, I can say that it was a lot of the feel and looks of the movie. Only time will tell if this is correct though...we will see.

iclfan2Just finished the first book. Much better than I expected.

That's weird bc its pretty much exactly how I pictured it. Perfect actors for Haymitch, Snow, Katniss, and Peeta -
FatHobbitIf I see this it will probably be with my kid.

GOONx19I read the first one Saturday. It's a mix of Lord of the Flies, the Most Dangerous Game, and something else that I can't think of at the moment. Not phenomenal, but good enough to read the second one and watch the movie.
-
that_guyI read all three of these between Christmas and New Years this year. The first one was great, but I thought the other two were only ok. I loved the description and structure of the games, but after a while I just got annoyed with the lead character's whinyness.
I don't understand at all how these keep getting compared to Twilight. Though, I've only seen parts of the first Twilight, and thought it was terrible, it seems much more targeted to young girls. Hunger Games seems like it could work for both men and women.
The one trailer I've seen for the movie looked impressive, I especially like the way they presented District 12, matched up well with how I imagined it while reading... -
A PACAwesome book series. Kind of chickish at times but awesome action.

friendfromlowryBump. I can't remember the last time I read a book, but I picked this one up out of impulse Thursday and am already about 250pgs into it.
My girlfriend loves the Twilight books/movies, and she had no idea what the book was about. -
KR1245I had to read the first one for a class a couple years ago. I thought it was a decent book, I might check out the movie if it gets some good reviews
Not really interested in reading the other two -
GOONx19Movie's coming out this weekend. I don't know if I'll see it or wait to redbox it. I read the second one in the car on the way to spring break and thought it was better than the first. It'll be interesting to see how the movie turns out.
-
iclfan2I'm going to see this Friday, because the girlfriend already bought tickets. Reviews so far are really good.
-
GOONx19I'm just excited for Jennifer Lawrence. She's perfect for the role, and the first celebrity I can say I'm acquaintances with. She was in my roommate's high school class and we've partied together a few times in the past 3 years. End cool story bro.

raiderbuckI finished the trilogy last week. Thought it was a great read, however, book three was kind of a let down. Book three did have the most action though. Definitely going to see e movies this weekend too.
