It does pose higher risk of an accident, and any accident has the potential to create a pile-up. And, technically, the left lane is for passing meaning if you are not passing (i.e. driving in the left lane) you are supposed to move over.Steel Valley Football;998211 wrote:It's annoying to the cars who want to pass but there's no real danger in it. I don't care which driver you are, my point was that driving side by side is a hazard for EVERYONE.I think we all understood but this is a different scenario than what was painted before. It was clear you were not the driver before. -

who cars if the cars are infront of him? what is dangerous about being behind 2 cars?Steel Valley Football;997733 wrote:Oh boy...we have a fail by Glory Days. That is not the scenario. Go read again what he wrote.
Worst, and most dangerous is the driver that drives side by side with the car in the right lane and neither will increase speed to pass or decrease speed and drop in behind.
He's not talking about himself being one of the cars in question or he wouldn't have stated "neither will increase speed..."
Ergo, the cars are in front of him.
HitsRus;998069 wrote:I'm talking about it being dangerous to drive side by side (especially on a freeway)when you don't have to. It is dangerous to both drivers who are side by side, and it also clogs up the lanes so drivers who want to pass are not able to do so....so the traffic starts backing up behind, and more often than not, it leads to the multiple side by side situations all the way back. It doesn't matter whether you are the front cars driving side by side...or the cars trailing.
If I am driving in a car in the right lane, if a car is just hanging off my door or taking to long to pass, I'll either speed up or slow down so as to have an open spot to move to. I really don't understand why people (either driver in either lane) would want to drive for a prolonged period in this position.HitsRus;998352 wrote:I don't care which driver you are, my point was that driving side by side is a hazard for EVERYONE. -
iclfan2Was in a line of cars on 77 this morning going 55 in a 65. Some moron semi driver took over 10 miles to get back in the right lane.

technically no, ohio is not pennslyvania. its more you should keep right if you are going below the speed limit. its also legal to pass on either side aslong as you use an approved roadway and not the shoulder. you would actually probably have less traffic jams if through traffic stayed in the left lane (no matter what the speed) and letting the traffic that is getting off and on stay in the right lane.gut;998290 wrote:It does pose higher risk of an accident, and any accident has the potential to create a pile-up. Ironman92We are going to Easton tomorrow and those effers on Route 23 from Chillicothe to 270 will go 55 mph in the passing lane the whole way. Might as well find an alley from Jackson to Columbus.

I Am AhabHow bout motherfuckers who stop when merging onto a highway or anything really. Especially when they're in front of me.
I'm trying to look at traffic over my left shoulder to merge and I have to worry about the dickhead in front of me coming to a complete stop instead of merging or just slowing down to yield.
A yield is not a stop sign dude. Why come to a complete stop if it's not absolutely necessary, then have to throttle up so hard to get in with the flow. Get a fucking clue. -

This. On 2 lane highways in Texas, the slower car almost always pulls onto the shoulder to let a faster car pass. It's very convenient if you're trying to get somewhere in a hurryGlory Days;998544 wrote:technically no, ohio is not pennslyvania. its more you should keep right if you are going below the speed limit. its also legal to pass on either side aslong as you use an approved roadway and not the shoulder. you would actually probably have less traffic jams if through traffic stayed in the left lane (no matter what the speed) and letting the traffic that is getting off and on stay in the right lane. -

As mentioned, this is not true at all. Maybe not for the reasons explained however. -

HitsRusThe sad thing is you can't drive 30 miles on a 4 lane highway without running into this situation where somebody is hanging out in the left lane, doing the same speed as the guy in the right. It happened to me today where I came up on a group of cars backed up behind these guys. The first guy behind the driver in the left is right up on his ass trying to get him to speed up and move over. Right behind him is another driver...and of course another driver immediately to his right.. I'm about 3 cars back, but soon I have someone on my left, and some behind me...and someone behind me to the left. I don't care whether it is 'legal' Or what the speed limit is, or who's doing the limit or who's going too fast.... the guy hanging out in the left lane is putting my life at risk and everyone elses, simply because he's too big an asshole to speed up a few MPH and move over to allow those in a hurry to get around him. When an accident happens and people get hurt, it doesn't matter whose in the right or whose fault it is except to determine compensatory damages.

McFly1955This is bad, but you know what's worse?
All the retards who speed up to a lane closing flashing arrow and try to cut over at the very last second, thus jacking up the entire lineup and causing a traffic jam for miles.
I straddle the lane I'm in and the lane that is closing so nobody can get by - cool story, bro. -

I drive close to 20,000 per year on freeways and I get into the situation above far too often. What ends up happening is the people 3 and 4 cars back start attempting ways to get around the slow ass, people start zig-zagging, I occasionally see flashing lights, and the tailgating gets dangerous. If there happens to be an accident behind the slow ass in the left lane, they just drive off and never get cited for causing the mayhem. I haven't done it yet, but I've always wanted to pass them, get in front of them, and slow down to 40 MPH in an effort to show them their ignorance. I never do it because I'm happy to get them in the mirror and I'd be just as guilty of the offense they were creating and 2 wrongs don't make it right.HitsRus;999215 wrote:The sad thing is you can't drive 30 miles on a 4 lane highway without running into this situation where somebody is hanging out in the left lane, doing the same speed as the guy in the right. It happened to me today where I came up on a group of cars backed up behind these guys. It IS true in many states, and I believe also true on the OH turnpike.Steel Valley Football;999165 wrote:As mentioned, this is not true at all. Maybe not for the reasons explained however. -
BRFThere are many times when people pull out in front of me when coming out of the grocery store parking lot, while going really slow so they don't spill their groceries. I call this "getting Buehler'ed".

1) I said the cars are in front of him only because you said he was in one car driving next to another car, which you were wrong about.
2) I never said it was dangerous. In fact, my statement was the exact opposite. I said it was not dangerous. -

BRFGlory Days: Just wanted to let you know that I am on your side. It's been a long time since I have seen someone make a fool out of themselves like someone on this thread has. How the situation was explained was pretty plain and simple.
Hits: I happened to merge onto the turnpike today and a guy in the middle lane pulled up beside me and went the same speed for about 10 seconds. I looked over and just started laughing, thinking about this thread. Then I said, "see ya!" and zipped ahead..........just a little bit. -

1) I never said it was relevant. I only asked why it was so dangerous. You were the one who first claimed it was dangerous because of his blind spot which makes no sense. It makes no sense because side-by-side cars aren't in the other's blind spot and also because, with the way he initially worded it, he was not in either of the side-by-side cars.
2) Don't tell me what I said. Let's go back and quote what was said.
The way he originally wrote it, the only place he could be is behind the two side by side cars. That, or not on the highway at all and speaking hypothetically; which is fine. He then came back and added more details which changed what was originally wrote. Then thats when you started thinking you were all cool and right about everything and being a dicck. Now, he may have MEANT something other than what he originally wrote but that's not my fault.
Since you seem like you want a debate, that is. So, go.
