The "Diet" in diet soda is a marketing myth designed to hoodwink the masses.
This is false. Diet soda doesn't make you eat more food, only you can make yourself eat more food. Diet soda serves a legitimate benefit if you don't make up the 400 calorie difference between a large regular coke and a large diet coke with 400 calories worth of food.

If you drink diet for any other reason than you like the taste you're a moron. If you were actually trying to diet you wouldn't drink soda at all.

I don't care what anyone says, Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper is amazing.

Glad you know more than scientists. Eating false calories makes your brain crave foods to make up for the expected calories. Drinking diet pop does no good in losing weight.

That's exactly my point. As long as you exercise self-control, you save calories by drinking diet. That would be exactly what I'm referring to with my statement of "legitimate benefit"

Your link speaks to the psychological effects of drinking diet soda. I was only speaking to the caloric effects of drinking diet soda, which are clearly better than non-diet soda.

I can't help that people who drink diet soda lack the self-control to not overindulge to make up for the calories saved.

Drinking diet soda doesn't make you gain wait. Lacking self-control to not eat more does.

But your brain kicks off a craving. That is different that just having the will not to eat.

That's when you tell your fucking brain that instead of food, you're going to drown it in pot smoke until it can't remember what the fuck it wanted. At least that works for me.

Then, once that kicks in, your brain wants food again. Usually pizza. And chicken strips. Maybe chinese food...definitely potstickers. Awesome.

I decided I really needed to lose weight this year, so I found a way to get around that problem. When I started dieting, I took a couple months off the green, so I could get rid of the instinct to have a late night buzzed-up feast. When I picked up the pipe again, I've found I only eat big when visiting my college football watching buddies, often because they have a bag of chips or crackers laying around and I don't keep those things around my place because they don't fit into my diet. At home, I don't eat anything at night.

Look, if you're eating at McDonald's, and you opt to get a diet soda, it doesn't matter how much your brain "craves" food, don't f**king eat more, it's really that simple.

I'm speaking to the fat f**ks that drink diet soda and then consequently eat more, not because of a brain craving, but because they use the diet soda as justification for doing so. I personally feel that is more of the reason "diet soda makes people actually gain weight" than the effect of fake sugar on the brain.

I agree with you. But the craving doesn't hit you when you drink it. It gets you later. I've never lost weight by drinking diet instead of regular. I have lost weight by drinking water instead of pop.

So couldn't you just say the same thing regarding regular soda? It's not regular soda which makes you overweight, its lacking the self control to drink something other than soda.

This logic is terrible. I'll stick to the side that has peer reviewed research from multiple sources rather than some loosely constructed logical argument.

Also, congrats on getting in UofA law, bro. #changetheworld
