FatHobbitDoes anyone know when he bought these animals? I'm assuming he didn't buy them all this year. (I could be wrong) If that is true, then his convictions were in 2005 and he was already violating the law, even when Strickland was governor. It would not have changed anything.

He's had them for a decadeHostetler with the Animal Shelter Society said Thompson was an animal collector who had a horrible reputation for the treatment of his animals.
It's been a nightmare out there for a decade," Hostetler said. "I never thought he'd do something like he's done. But I knew eventually something bad would happen out there.
Lol, if they were there the entire time the rule was in place, how can they be so sure they would have been removed if the order had not expired. The Humane Society said Thompson "would almost certainly have had his animals removed by May 1, 2011, if the emergency order had not expired." -

HSUS is just trying to gain more power through this incident. Wayne Pacelle had a statement out by like 9am yesterday. Ohio has been their target for a few years now, and they won't let any indcident go to waste. They are trying to make it sound like THEIR law exacted by the governer who buckled at the knees to their threats, was the answer. The real answer is that when the law expired, ODNR was tasked with creating the new law, which the findings were supposed to be reported in 6 weeks or so. That's how it should work. This state should internally make it's own laws, not let some out of state extremist group come in and dictate how our state should be run.FatHobbit;939601 wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/19/us/exotic-animal-owner/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

This is where I am baffled. The guy had been in trouble with the law NUMEROUS times. There is no reason why he should have been allowed to keep the animals. No reason whatsoever. The proper authorities should've came in and saved the animals YEARS ago.FatHobbit;939588 wrote:Does anyone know when he bought these animals? I'm assuming he didn't buy them all this year. The guy was troubled, no doubt about it. It's common knowledge in the area. He has a long rap sheet. Things should have been taken care of a long time ago.
I cannot believe I used to drive by his property on the interstate all the time. I thought it was a junkyard -- there were HUNDREDS of junk cars in the fields. That was just a barrier or a way of hiding the animals from the general public. I cannot believe it was a large exotic animal farm. Man, I wish I knew that so I could've seen all the exotic animals.
My mom had a worker of hers at the Sam's Club in Zanesville get locked inside the Sam's. They shot a black panther in the parking lot. Another friend of mine has a son-in-law that works at the UPS packaging place have two lions get shot right there by the plant. -
OSHI meant to add, a buddy of mine is a tattoo artist in Zanesville, here's what he is doing:
Good idea. I guess the Columbus Zoo is taking donations to care for the captured animals. I wonder if the money will be going there?so heres the deal people. its time to put your money where your mouth is. we all know whats going on in ur community. all weekend long heres what im doing to help out. startng today and thru the weekend im going to be doing wildlife tattoos. specifcally lions tigers wolves bears for $60-$100 and every penny will be going to charity we havnt figured out which ones. but i wont leave the shop until they are all done. i do have other appointents to work around so please come by so we can figure this out. -

from the article from the legal counsel of the ODNR who would have been in charge of enforcing Strickland's order...
do you feel like a dumbass? you should.Damschroder said legislation was not in place that empowered the agency to do the things required by Strickland’s order. In addition, it allocated no resources to do the statewide enforcement job.
....
....Instead of renewing Strickland’s order, Kasich put Natural Resources in charge of a working group to craft legislation controlling the sale and ownership of exotic animals. That group has been developing a proposal for several months, but has not completed the task. -

Terry W. Thompson’s Muskingum County farm runs south along I-70, right. The farm was home to dozens of exotic animals before he released them on Tuesday and killed himself. The farm buildings, with animal cages in between, are in the center. Automobiles that Thompson collected are at far left and alongside I-70. .

Had he been convicted? The order, issued by Gov. Ted Strickland but permitted to expire by Kasich last spring, prohibited anyone who had been “convicted of an offense involving the abuse or neglect of any animal pursuant to any state, local, or federal law” from owning exotic animals. -

DthaneWhat! Wait a minute! Life isn't a Disney movie?
Where is Marlon Perkins when you need him? What about Dr. Doolittle? If I remember my pharmacology correctly, tranquilizers work alot better when you are on the Savannah and there is no cover in any direction for 5 miles, they shoot the cheetah and follow him for about 2 miles before he finally conks out. Seeing the feed a few pages back with the lion attacking, I am not too sure that if you have a life threatening situation, we want to take chances on needing a second or third dose on a ticked off, starving animal that makes the wrong turn and ends up on a soccer complex with 80 six year olds that all look like lunch to him. Certainly don't need to see the animals dead, but they had no choice, and I mean no choice, other than to take the animals down. Can you imagine the presser after 3 or 4 kids were eaten or mauled and the sheriff is up there trying to say "we never thought the lion would attack". To which the follow up question would be "how smart are you sheriff, it's a freakin lion, his purpose in life is to attack so he can eat". Shoot to kill was the only choice.
