There are a million phone threads out there so I figured I would start one for this phone.

Specs are below. I will be picking this phone up when it comes out.
Well, now that Apple has announced the iPhone 4S, there’s only one other flagship on the horizon that people are eagerly anticipating and that’s the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Codenamed “Nexus Prime,” the Galaxy Nexus is a phone we have scooped on numerous occasions, and now we can paint a complete picture of the device thanks to new information from a trusted source. Here’s what Samsung and Google will unveil next Tuesday:
• Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
• 9mm thin
• 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
• TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
• 1GB of RAM
• 32GB of built-in storage
• 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
• 1080p HD video capture support
• LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
• Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
• NFC
• 1,750 mAh battery
We have confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be a pure Google Experience device without any third-party UI or modifications, so no TouchWiz on this one, guys. Also, one notable feature of Ice Cream Sandwich? The ability to monitor each app’s data usage on the device. Lastly, we’re still hearing that the Galaxy Nexus will be a Verizon Wireless exclusive here in the U.S., so it’s time to check out those contract end-dates if you’re on another carrier and you plan to scoop up the latest pure Google smartphone.

All I need to do is add to cart and checkout at this point.

I'm kind of glad apple made the decision easy for me.

Wow. I just looked this phone up one PhoneArena.com and did a side-by-side comparison with it, the iPhone 4S, and the Bionic... and really, it's either better or the same in almost every category, save for the Camera Resolution (5, instead of 8 megapixels), lack of Document Viewer, and it's Bluetooth Version (3.0, instead of 4.0).

Significant advantages over the iPhone 4S include LTE (4G) capable, Super AMOLED Display Technology, 720x 1280 pixels for Display Resolution (compared to 640 x 960 pixels), a bigger screen, and a better front-facing camera.

Significant advantages over the Bionic include Global Roaming capable, Super AMOLED Display Technology, 720x 1280 pixels for Display Resolution (compared to 540 x 960 pixels), a bigger screen, a slightly higher Battery Capacity (1750 mAh vs. 1735 mAh), and has a newer Android OS (4.0 vs. 2.3.4).

Only disadvantage is really the camera.

How is this thread "dead"?

Looks beastly. Any rumored release dates?

The Nexus series has always been my favorite line of Android phones. If I were to ever switch back to Android, it'd be for a Nexus.

However, I still prefer the fluidity of iOS over Android. I've had my fair share of Android phones before switching over, and it was always the same story. We'll see what Ice Cream Sandwich brings.

November 3rd ,not positive

Looks awesome. Might have to wait for it. I will either be getting this or the Bionic.

Camera quality is not measured by mp's....The camera will probably be better than the Bionic and on par with the IPhone 4G.

It's also supposed to have NFC, if that actually matters to anyone.
• sherm03
NFC is going to be amazing! It will be what takes phones to that next level.

I'm not a huge fan of vanilla Android. But I am interested to see what Ice Cream Sandwich has to offer.

Could be, eventually, I just don't see the utility right now. I'm struggling to imagine how it will be quicker and more convenient to launch the app, enter a pass code, and wait for it to be read vs. swiping my credit card. Not to mention, I just don't think places you can use it are remotely widespread, but that might change soon enough.

Now, the ability to turn-off your house alarm or open your car doors, house door, etc...Some of that stuff would be pretty cool, but I'd also be concerned with the various additional security risks it poses.

Funny, because on the various android forums there's almost a pitch-fork mentality over non-vanilla Android. I don't care one way or the other, I have a highly customized home launcher I run but don't get into all the aesthetic tweaks.

I'm down to these two as well.

Can someone please describe (in laymens terms) what "NFC" and "Ice Cream Sandwich" are. Especially "Ice Cream Sandwich" as I've been hearing that tossed around a lot lately. Is that just the operating system? Like "Honeycomb," but newer?

Thanks

Yep ... Ice Cream Sandwich is Android 4.0, their new OS, and an upgrade from Honeycomb (3.0). Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to be a bringing together of Gingerbread and Honeycomb

Since I'm not familiar with either (Gingerbread or Honeycomb), what should I expect from Ice Cream Sandwich? Or, perhaps a better question might be, what is everyone hoping for?
• sherm03
It should highlight some of the best with both versions and bring them together. So what can you expect on the phone? Probably a holographic 3D-like UI, new app launcher, and features like being able to scroll through preview windows of open programs for quicker multi-tasking and tabbed web browsing so you don't have to hit the menu button and switch windows anymore.

I've also heard rumors of face recognition software that will help improve video calls, and USB plug in support so you can plug in video game controllers to play games. If that's true, it would be amazing. Being able to hook your phone up to your TV via HDMI and then connecting a controller to play any game on your phone could potentially open up the possibility of some amazing games getting created for Android.

That came out... then this came out...

http://www.bgr.com/2011/10/07/google-and-samsung-postpone-galaxy-nexus-event/
Samsung has just announced that the product launch event at CTIA Fall planned for next with with Google won’t be happening. Here’s Samsung’s statement:
Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.
We know the Google and Samsung teams have been working around the clock on the Galaxy Nexus, but a postponement a few days before the event doesn’t make too much sense. We’ve reached out to Samsung and Google for further clarification, but it looks like we’ll have to keep re-watching that leaked video from this morning over and over for a bit longer now.

They are saying it is out of respect for Steve Jobs. They better not be using it as an excuse to give them more time for something.

Looks like a nice phone.

That's a bullshit answer. My guess is they need to tweak something after finally seeing what the Apple announcement was for the iPhone 4S. They will change something to better position it against it against the new iPhone. No way they postpone an announcement because Steve Jobs died. That's a load of shit.

I agree. It is either that or they need to fix a huge bug that was found.

What do you think the chances of swopping out the 5 Megapixel camera for an 8 are? If they did that, I might say the Nexus Prime is the leader for me then.
