Tommy Rowlands kicked the shit out of me once my sophomore year, I think. It was some tournament in Columbus, can't remember which high school it was at.like_that;889139 wrote:If you know who Tommy Rowlands is, he wrestled 125 his frosh year in HS. If you don't know who he is, he ended up being a 3x NCAA finalist, 2x champ for OSU at HVY. -

Dude was a freak. Went from a little guy as an underclassman to a big guy who moved like a little guy. It was just amazing how much more mobile and quick on his feet he was compared to even his toughest high school opposition while he was a junior and senior.like_that;889139 wrote:If you know who Tommy Rowlands is, he wrestled 125 his frosh year in HS. Yeah. One of my coaches was a national champ as senior in high school at heavyweight and wrestled at OSU for a while. He'd beat the shit out of me at practice on a daily basis.like_that;889147 wrote:That is pretty cool. At least you can always say you wrestled a 2x NCAA champ.

That makes a little more sense. I figured it was a growth spurt. My growth spurt was a little earlier and more dramatic; I grew 8-9 inches and put on 55 pounds in between 7th and 8th grade. I remember by football coach did not even recognize me. He thought I was some new kid who had moved into town.justincredible;889134 wrote:Was 5'8" my freshman year. Was 6'2" my sophomore year. I also didn't actually weigh close to 215 until I was a junior. I wrestled 215 as a sophomore while only weighing about 185. We had a stud 189 that year so 215 was the only open spot. Got my ass throttled that year giving up that much weight.
My parents talk of my growth spurt even today. As you can image a lot of $$$ was spent on buying me a whole new wardrobe. -
Pick6played a variety of positions in all sports I participated in..
Football: RB sparingly. Played TE and Will LB one year. Played DB and WR the rest of the time, which are my best fit positions.
Basketball: Played some 1 guard, mostly 2 guard. Was best defender on our team, ended up guarding some 6'5" guy in sectionals. Coincidently I guarded him during football season as well.
Track: Ran shuttle hurdles (by far my favorite, and best event.. too bad Ohio doesnt do it in the post season), 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 400, 800, 4x800 -
