If I can't kill him what can I do?

  • mella
My 12 year old son comes home from school with a pen that he found. I see him bending the pen back and forth and I tell him not to explode the pen, the ink will make a mess. I start to get dinner ready and he goes outside to play. He comes in a few minutes later, gets on the computer and is really quiet. I go to get something out of the pantry and I notice blue ink on the door. I call my son over and ask him why is there ink on the door. He says I don't know. I ask him if he exploded the pen and he tells me no. I ask to see his hands and they are covered with blue ink. I ask him again did you explode that pen, he says no. I clean the ink off the door and tell him to wash his hands and check around the house for more blue ink.

The white front door has a big smear of ink about 6 inches below the handle. I tried to clean it off but it is not coming off. I just painted the door a few months ago and I don't feel like sanding down and repainting. At this point I am count to ten over and over, trying not to yell, but picturing doing some physical harm to him, which I did not. He eventually admits the "magic" blue ink did come from him even though he originally denied knowing where it came from.

Any suggestions on removing the ink and keeping the paint intact?

Before you get on my case about making dinner, my wife is in Chicago today and you don't want her cooking anyway.

Try some rubbing alcohol or goo gone.

Used to use hairspray to get ink out of fabric. Spray it on, dab it out. I don't know if that'll work on your door.

Is it too late to test him to see if he is a retard? Maybe I should just teach him how to play blackjack and take him to Vegas.

is it that hard to put another coat of paint on the door? Should cover in 1 coat.

It shouldn't be. I'm just pissed off that I have to.

You don't have kids yet, do you? Ones you know about.

Firstly you need to punish him for lying. If you don't, he'll start to think lying is okay. He clearly lied about the ink, and you need to let him know that you definitively know it was him and that there's no reason to lie.

In terms of punishment for the ink, what are you going to do? Kids will be kids. The lying, imo, is the bigger problem here.

He went from dinner, homework, shower and then bed. He'll be in bed early tomorrow also. I made it clear that the lying was unacceptable. I'm not big into sitting down and talking about "our feelings".

I was more implying punishment, but it seems like you took care of that.

I'd also recommend, like hitsRus, that he have to paint the door.

    make him repaint it
  • mella
I just have to decide if him repainting it is worth my time overseeing him while he repaints the door and still having to possibly repaint the door after him. I might have a Sunday of yard work for him to do.

Yup so can my 6 yr old

It doesn't matter whether it is 'worth your time'...it is more important to link damage and the necessary repair. So, sit down, ctack a beer, and supervise him. Feel free to get as picky as you want and make him do it until it's right.

At that point, keeping the CHILD intact might be the issue.

All 12-year-old boys are retards. It's part of our development.

This is so much more explanatory. Make him paint it, and make him make it pristine. Enjoy an adult beverage, as it will help make it seem more worthwhile.

Maybe you should discipline your little shit kid so that he doesn't lie to his parent's face next time.
