KAMPALA, Uganda – Proposed legislation would impose the death penalty for some gay Ugandans, and their family and friends could face up to seven years in jail if they fail to report them to authorities. Even landlords could be imprisoned for renting to homosexuals.
I really can't believe this is actually a bill their govt. is trying to pass. Regardless of your feelings on gay rights no one deserves this! I don't even know if I should post this here maybe more for politics, be civil though but I think its a story that needs to be out there. I mean its 2009 and a nations govt. wants to kill people for their sexuality, good god!! And no I'm not gay!

How can you have less than not a crime?

You should be locked up in a mental facility if you want to move to Uganda anyways.

To be fair, I'm sure it is more about slowing the spread of AIDS than just simple homophobia. Still it is rather ridiculous.

You can have your arms, legs, and head hacked off with axes or machetes for hitchhiking...which is not a crime over there any way you cut it.

I'm not gay and I don't plan on moving to Uganda, so even if I was gay, it wouldn't make a difference. Who in the hell wants to live in Uganda?

I'm sure that is how proponents will spin it to get support.

This really made me sick reading this. But really bothered me was the sort of passive support some Americans quoted in the article were giving to the intent of the bill.

"I agree with the general goal but this law is far too harsh," said Lively, a California-based preacher and author of "The Pink Swastika" and other books that advise parents how to "recruit-proof" their children from gays.

I still don't understand how anyone can still think that homosexuality is a choice. It is not. And they don't "recruit" people to be gay. I seriously hope nobody on here believes that, and if you do, I am so sad for you.

Yes efforts should be made to promote responsible sexual relationships, for both gays and heterosexuals alike, but as the article mentioned, a bill like this will push gays further underground, and may actually worsen the AIDS situation.

lol no but so many countries have weird ass laws and things that will get you killed that wouldn't here. I'm already an offensive person here, over there I'd be satan.

    Well said websurfinbird...

Also, gays are not the only people who spread AIDS. It makes me sad that people still blame AIDS on gays. It may have spread faster in that community because of the lack of safer sexual practices and a higher rate of promiscuity, especially in the beginning of the spread of AIDS. Unfortunately, this misconception only hurts everyone because straight people feel like it won't happen to them because they are not gay.
