  websurfinbird - proof? i'm pretty sure people have some very justifiable reasons that would lead them to believe that it is a choice...it all depends on how you look at it and what side of the fence you're on. all in all its a pretty outrageous proposed law that seems a little genocide-ish to me

  I used to think it was a choice but then I grew up and and have come to be very good friends with some gay people and realized they didn't have a choice that is the way they are!

  While I'm sure I can dig up some studies to support my case (and I'm sure the opposition could as well), I'd rather point to the example of my friend who HATED being gay. His father is a very conservative person, and he didn't come out to him until after he graduated from college. His father disowned him and I know it was a very hard thing for him. He now lives in Japan and has finally found happiness with someone there. My point is he had to go through a lot to get there.
  
  
  For the doubters, let me put it to you this way. Did you wake up one morning and say hmmm I think I'm going to be heterosexual today? Probably not, you just knew, and so do homosexuals, bi-sexuals and any other "sexuals" you can think of.
  
  What we all have a choice in is how we ACT on our sexual desires.

  Websurfinbird... That is exactly what I tell people when they say being gay is a choice. What if tomorrow you wake up in a world where being straight is outside of the norm. No one told you to choose being straight you just are and everyone is telling you that you are wrong and that you choose to be straight. That is the only way you can try and understand what it is like for gay people. They have always been attracted to the same sex and people who can't empathize because they just happened to be born within the norm judge something they have never truly tried to understand.

  I don't remember choosing to be straight. I remember finding a porn at my friends house when I was 11 and thinking "hmm, that seems like something I'd like to do."
  
  And how tough mentally are these gay people that are just choosing to be gay? My god, if they are then put these people in the Navy SEALS because that will be cake compared to what they're doing. I'd sooner be able to kill people in the most horrific ways 1000x's over before willing myself to get drilled by dudes the rest of my life so I could get more attention.

  There is no "fence" . . . . it is so obviously not a choice that thinking otherwise simply defies logic and insults intelligence.

  Choice or biological, it doesn't matter for me. I don't care what somebody does in their bedroom. Why should I? I don't understand the mindset that a lot of Americans are in where they feel it is their right or responsibility to push their beliefs and morals on others. Our country is made better (in my opinion) by the differences between all of us. Why would I want everybody to have the same beliefs and thoughts that I do? There would be no heated political debates, discussions about morality, or any of the sort. Whether or not a person is gay has no bearing on my life. I'm glad they have found what it is that makes them happy.
  
  This legislation is utterly ridiculous and inhumane. That being said, this in no way affects my desire to move to Uganda. Prior to this it rated somewhere near having my big toes cut off and sitting through a 3 hour concert of Roseanne Barr singing Frank Sinatra covers on my desire meter. It really hasn't moved.

  I was just reading this story in the paper. This is very, very sad. Whether you are pro or anti gay on this issue, we can all agree that this is tragic. Religious or not, we can all agree that homosexuality doesn't need to be considered a crime anywhere.
  
  Websurfinbird, you are the voice of reason, and have earned my respect. All of your posts are spot on.
  
  To anyone who still thinks this is a choice, there have been instances in several different animals in the wild of homosexuality, with no human coercion. Scientists have also had priomising results in brain studies which show different brain chemistry based on different sexual orientation. I would quote sources, but I huddle from my phone only. I will tell you that all of this can be backed up by a documentary called "for the bible tells me so". I would encourage everyone to watch it.
  
  To mtgrad, I hope you are sarcastic. If not, realize that you are still quite young and opinions and viewpoints often change after high school, especially in college.
  
  To everyone else, it has been great to read all of these encouraging posts. I think this has to be the best freehuddle moment that I have had, because on the other huddle this thread would be full of hateful trolling with racist bigotry and comments like "kill them all".
