  I wouldnt say it is 'easy' to be in the military. Brutus is a recruiter and said taht 80% of the people dont even qualify.....I guess I have to believe him but I dont know if it is that high.

  The 80% thing is true. Trust me, I have had to weed through a lot of the 80% to find the 20.
  
  I'm will apologize for responding the way I did, I should have better restraint than that. I am very proud of my service, and I am very quick to defend it. To answer another question about wearing my uniform, I actually wore my dress uniform this morning to an event. After the event, they invited me to breakfast at Golden Corral (not my first choice, believe that). I went without even considering going home to change first, even though I live 3 blocks from where the event happened. They did not request for me to wear my uniform, I did it because I felt it showed the proper respect for what I was doing.

  I am completely fine with this though (although you don't need my approval obviously). I've seen people wear the uniform to formal events and have "approved" of it because that's the equivalent to wearing a suit and tie to a formal event. The thing that people have issue with is when you walk into the local dive bar with holed jeans and a t-shirt or even a a club like Eagles, and a military person has their uniform on.
  
  I've had relatives who stood up in someone's wedding and wore their formals instead of the tuxedo that every other groomsmen was wearing.
  
  An event is one thing, but a bar is another at least IMO.

  Is it about 80% whom seek to join or 80% of the population in your determination.
  
  It sounds like your representation of wearing the uniform this AM was probably more honorable than what most were talking about in here.
  You should be very proud of your service, as should everyone who has and is serving. Plus, the Golden Bucket is used to seeing military types..
  
  As for a wedding......Unless I was the focal point, or it was a military style wedding, i wouldnt wear the dress uni. I just think it takes attention away from the bride and groom and such. That is just my own two cents.

  Precisely. I expect my military relatives to wear their uniforms to formal occasions and such. Hell, my 90-year-old grandfather still does. And if you're going somewhere afterward, you can't help that.

  I never wore my uniform (when I served) to the bar. It is tacky and I am pretty sure you aren't supposed to (can't remember though).

  the only place besides on base i wore my uniform was when we went to lunch during the day, getting gas on the way home or the one time me and my co worker had to go downtown to get information for an event(still during the workday). i wouldnt even stop for milk, i'd go home first.
  
  i think the only uniform you can drink alcohol in is the dress uniform.

  And doesn't that have to be at an event like a wedding or military ball, fundraiser type thing? I don't think you can just get in your Class A uniform and go to the local watering hole.

  What do ya t hink about this? There is a kid, NG or Reservist, whom shows up to the local gym to workout in his Army PT's, and even does the gay white socks that are calf length.
  
  Also just had a kid walk into where I work who wore his Army PT shorts along with the brown shirt ya wear under your ACU's.

Sleeper...you usually make me laugh my ass off with your anti-ND rants but when you said "you wouldn't hire ex-military personnel" your credibility and what little respect you still had was completely lost. What kind of F'n company allows a complete asswipe like yourself to hire people in the first place? Ex-military folks as a large majority make excellent employees displaying commitment, integrity, perserverence and intuition.   My son was in the Navy for a little over 10 years when he suffered a shoulder injury and was medically discharged. He was heartbroken because he took pride in serving and was planning on retiring from the Navy. He was very proud to wear his uniform especially when his ship returned from overseas and he (and his shipmates) had leave in NYC. While on ship, he made friends with Seals on his ship and unfortunately experienced the heartbreaking loss of not seeing some of them come back to his ship after a mission. To say SEALS would scoff at others in the Navy is so far fetched because the SEALS knew that the others in the Nvay took pride in their jobs and supported them to the hilt.

  Unimportant. Nobody is going to walk up to you in the gym and say "Hey I notice you're wearing your PTs. Thanks for your service, let me buy you a powerade from the bar."

  True...you can buy them, but that would make ya an even bigger retard! Those shirts are not what I call prime PT garb. Of course no one is gonna go up to ya and buy him a powerbar, but dont ya think it is worn so he gets attention? That would be my thought.

  U of M is much older than the navy seals, so the seals should apologize for using the colors blue and yellow.

  In 2009 there was a guy who walked onto a big ten football team. He was/is a SEAL who had went on a few deployments overseas.
  He went into the 'Seaman to Admiral' program. It is a program for an enlisted soldier to go to college and then to OCS I believe. You must get your degree within 36 months.
  
  He was just a walk on, played in the secondary, and I dont think he saw any action. In 2010 I believe he was with the team in the spring, and I think participated in the spring game but made a 'professional' decision to not go out that fall. When I had talked to him last summer he wasnt sure he could go out again due to the requirements of completing his degree in 36 months and still some military requirements. Good guy, and a totall badass.
  
  I wonder what he thinks of what is Hoke is doing. I imagine some SEALs are cool with it, as a way to honor them, and I imagine some wont like it. Just like when former Team guys give interviews on TV. Some think its not the right thing to do, some are Ok with it.
