ABSOLUTELY! But misspelling easy words, and botching easy grammar (coming from a teacher) is purely unacceptable. CCRunner is the poorest representative of a teacher that you can find... edit: "on these boards."
CCRunner, you are an idiot! -

Oh God, wait till Believer and Writerbuckeye get ahold of this thread!
It was a horrible point and a terrible analogy. Comparing a lecturing homeless person to a lecturing teacher? That's an insult to the homeless! -

ZING! -
redstreak oneI just want to point out to the OP that your response to your original rant was riddled with false information and half truths and your only response to being called out was "BUT!" Try researching and asking questions before you try to slam someone! Now back to the off topic discussion! lol

I was in these classes, which is my point, the class with a lecture was enjoyable, and I still remember alot of the lectures 12 years later. I couldn't tell you one thing I learned in Biology. You seriously don't believe that the way subjects are taught, play a role in how much a student learns?? Why have teachers at all then?? Parents should just register with the state, the state can send them the subject matter, and the students can just do everything on their own. That would save the state billions of dollars. -

parents home school kids now. besides the social issues the kids have, pretty sure they learn the subjects just fine. -

You are assuming that the parents care and don't just ship the kids off to be babysat for 7 hours a day. -

....Which is what happens in more cases than what non-educators would probably imagine. -

I know it happens, but the majority of parents in this country care about their childs education, far more than those that don't.BRF;867671 wrote:....Which is what happens in more cases than what non-educators would probably imagine. -

Enough said. You're a teacher, for god sakes. -

And for those that don't, will that be a factor in the "merit pay" system......the one that doesn't exist...the one that people just say "teacher's should be on a merit pay system"? Just do it? -

When you see how bad the US kids are doing VS other countries is just merely shows that the state and federal governments have dummed up education with mandates and weaker standards
Will you please just stop being the spokesperson for education? Please? -

Or the teachers are just better in other countries. -

You have to first understand how other countries "test and report" statistics. We (USA Americans) test EVERY child. Not every country does this. We test our (for lack of a better term) retards. They don't. -

Fact. China is a leader because they only educate the above average (that the upper 50% for those lacking semantics) kids. The other 50% are sent into labor or left behind. -

queencitybuckeyeOne of the main reason others are ahead of us is that they attend classes 20% or more days than we do. The reason the kids got the summer off is long obsolete and should be done away with.

How about a little political correctness? Say "gym teachers". -

The children of farmers may help out on the farm some in the summer, but it's not the same as it was even a generation ago. They, like their city classmates, spend much of their summer vacations playing video games, texting, and jerking off. There is no practical reason that we couldn't squeeze out another 20-30 school days per year. -

Ironman92I'm not going to say too much on this topic.....but as a gym teacher and a partial day 3rd grade co-teacher I could not possibly have enough information or experience to speak of just about any other profession the way many of you are doing.
My wife comes home most days pretty stressed from her job. In my mind I can't see the big deal about what she is having issues with...but I haven't been there and done that....so I don't judge her because quite honestly, I just don't know.
I've taught for 14 years and have worked with some real doozies, completely worthless in the grand scheme of things. I have also worked with some of the best. My current district is 40 miles wide and very low income. I can honestly say that kids show up for kindergarten each year and as a group seem lower and lower. Most districts are really cracking down on nearly everything. I will say teaching now is way more demanding than when I began.....and especially the last few years. I can honestly say that after my first week this year that I have never been stressed more about my job requirements than I am right now.
Think what you want...but most of you really don't know.
