Benny The JetWas watching highlights of the LLWS regional game yesterday, and saw a kid hit a bomb and drop the bat and pose just like his favorite player Robinson Cano. Then watching this Hamilton Ohio team, the pitcher is throwing nothing but curveball at 11 years old.
Seeing more and more of this lately, with the posing and flipping the bat etc. Who is more to blame for this, pros, parents, coaches, or just the way kids are these days?
I know this should probably go in the Baseball forum, but the last post in there was Mid-June or so. -

Thank you Stephen Strasburg. -

Coaches. I see a kid flip a bat and stare at his hit he's running until he pukes. -

Why? If he hits a bomb what's wrong with a little pose? -

Not the way the game is supposed to be played.Tiger2003;857680 wrote:Why? If he hits a bomb what's wrong with a little pose? -

That's fine, just don't cry if the next pitch is in your ear. -

You can't do a little pose? That's not the way the game is played? I understand a long pose is wrong or trying to show up the pitcher is wrong but a quick pose is not wrong. -
rydawg5I am on the fence on this one. These kids watch ESPN and know what a top ten play is all about. This is there chance to be on TV. I can't say I'd turn down that opportunity.

NNNHeaven forbid that 11-year-olds be allowed to have a little fun playing a game. Things like displays of emotion must be beaten out of them at a young age, otherwise they go on and continue on their way, thinking that sports are fun and enjoyable.
Of course, then there's the extremely juvenile response of throwing at someone who dares to do something. Maybe it's just me, but the proper response to someone hot-dogging is to then make sure that they don't do it again by doing your own job. Don't like a receiver celebrating a touchdown? Shut him down the rest of the way; don't go hitting him after the whistle. Don't like someone scoring a goal? Next time make the save. Throwing at someone can do one of the following:
1) At minimum - it puts a guy on base. The job of a pitcher is to keep hitters off base, not give them free passes. And any hitter worth a damn is willing to take a free base.
2) Moderate - it puts a guy on base, then it triggers a reciprocal response that either gets you plunked or one of your guys. Way to put your teammates in harm's way.
3) Maximum - it puts a guy on base, and it either triggers reciprocation OR it gets you ejected. Nice job getting thrown out of a game because you can't handle a little adversity. Now, go do what the other overgrown children in MLB do and go put a bat to the water cooler, then empty the bat rack. -
OSHI will say that I hate when the LLWS is on ESPN!
I think it's great that the kids get to be on national television...but man, it is on ALL the time and gets rather annoying. -

What else do you wanna watch on ESPN during this time? -

Skip Bayless coming across the desk to argue about how something that took place in a Royals/Orioles game is the BIGGEST CHOKE IN THE HISTORY OF SPORTS!!!!!
Followed by Jemele Hill saying that anyone who disagrees is racist. -

He pounded a home run in an important game. Sounds like there was plenty of go that took place just prior to him celebrating. -
Hb31187Its a bat flip lol...let the kids have some FUN. Which is what playing is all about at that age

whats the point of shutting someone down after they score and celebrate? too late then. its like after a bank robbery, you let the robber get away with the money and just put an extra guard in the bank for next time and dont care about getting your money back. -
Hb31187Shut them down so they CANT score and you dont have to worry about them celebrating I think is the point

Because there's (usually) a lot more of a game to play after that point. If you don't like someone celebrating, don't give them the opportunity to do so.
What's done is done, but it doesn't mean that you give them another opportunity. Most banks, following a robbery or an attempted robbery, will carefully assess everything within that branch from top to bottom, from camera angles to number of guards to types of locks on everything. By the same token, a kid who allows a home run will probably figure out how the ball ended up over the fence...if he's been hanging curveballs all day and someone finally got one, if he's tired, if he just missed a spot, or whether the other kid hits .800 with power to all fields and a massive reach. -

so whats wrong with messing with someone's head by throwing at them? definitely changes how they look at the next pitch. just like throwing high or outside, then coming back inside or low etc. -

12 year old baseball players should not emulate the bad behavior of major leaguers. To some degree, the players in MLB are there as entertainers. LLWS players are not.
Should they have fun and celebrate their accomplishments? Absolutely.
Should they exhibit boorish behavior and 'showmanship'? No. -
darbypitcher22after watching some of the games I think the moun fences and basepaths need to go back...its ridiculous that you can take a half swing with no followthrough and hit a ball 10 miles over the fence...or just introduce BBCOR's...
