Looking to Move...the Frick out of Ohio.

  Ive yearned to live somewhere where it is summer all year round for the past couple years. I always said if someone would go with me I'd do it. In the past yr. I've met a girl, moved in together, done the whole settling down thing, etc and I know she'd be willing to move if I said the word.
  
  Problem is I dont really know where to go. So Cal but that seems expensive. South Florida maybe? Arizona.
  
  Looking for an affordable area good for young adults who will likely be raising a family n the next five years or so.
  
  Any ideas for me?

  My brother and his wife enjoy Tucson. That said...they are ready to move back to Ohio.

  I went through the same thing. I couldnt wait to get the fuck out of ohio after College. I lived in Cincy for a few months, then moved back to Cleveland. Saved up money for little less than a yr and then left. Best decision I ever made.

  Austin, Charleston, SC, Seattle (not summer all the time but still cool) are all pretty damned cool towns.

  lafayette LA is a really nice place to live. it's not the cheapest place but it's certainly doable. I was thinking if you or your girl are at all in the medical field LFT would be a great place because of the 7 hospitals and countless outpatient places (apparently a lot of doctors from NOLA moved here after Katrina). I've never spent any appreciable amount of time in Austin but I've heard really good things. Denver is a great place but you said you want to go somewhere warm so I'd avoid that.

  Austin is a nice city. The wife and I took a trip down a few weeks ago and both love it. We wouldn't like to be that far from our family though so it wouldn't be an option for us.
  
  I'm not a big fan of Cali but loved the time I spent in San Diego for training.

  Lookin for 80 degrees in January type climate. I do landscaping here in Ohio and enjoy it. Probably look for a similar job wherever I go. I need to work outdoors. Hate being shut in.
  
  I'll look into Austin since that seems to be a popular choice. I've heard good things about San Diego but I've also heard the cost of living is high in Cali. I've got family n friends I. North FL so if I moved to the southern part of the state I could visit relatively often. The only thing really holding me back is my family here in Ohio. Hate to leave them and only see them a few times a year. But the long winter is depressing.

  I had a friend who lived in San Diego and its doable, all depending on your lifestyle. He was in college and living in Pacific Beach with 2 roomies though. It was on my list of places I was considering moving to. If I were to choose a place with warm weather year round, being near the beach would be a must.

  My cousins lived in Temecula(just outside San Diego), and paid $1700 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment.

  Some of the suburbs right outside of Phoenix Arizona are really nice.

  You can come live in Hawaii. Traffic is unreal and the locals will call you a Hali. But other then that its perfect.

  I'd agree with Texas(Dallas, Austin, San Antonio), Arizona, Carolina's, or Florida. I lived in Vero Beach/Ft. Pierce/West Palm Beach when I was a kid and it was a really nice area. I'm hoping to move to Texas or the Carolina's here in the next few years though.

  Are there many Migrants from the mainland living in Hawaii (excluding military)? Whats the job market like? I prefer to work outdoors.

  The problem with Hawaii (and SoCal) is the cost. Based on that, I'd cast another vote for Austin (plus it's a great city).

  My sister lived in Plantation, FL for about two years (b/t Miami and Ft. Lauderdale). She actually just accepted a job in Ohio. Her reasoning was the very concerns you listed.
