    ordered hbo today.

i like the show, but I didn't really care for the last season. I am more pumped for the return of Curb in July.

Should just make this an HBO thread. Since next week will be TrueBlood/Curb/Entourage

But as for the premier. I have it DVRd for after the Tribe game. Which unfortunately is about another 1-2-3 from ending (in my own eyes).

I thought the shapeshifting and werewolves were good, but the fairies sucked. At it appears that will be the focus of this season, since Sookie is a fairy. But as long as its got badass vampires and Anna Paquin nekkked, Im happy.

Curb premieres July 10th, Entourage July 24th. That is not next week.

Not a fan, love Curb and Entourage though

Looking forward to it. Unfortunately no HBO so I'll have to wait a day.

yeah, the fairies thing is pretty ghey. I also had no interest in the storyline of family of dog fighters.

And Weeds too. 2 of my favorite shows.

Correct. I was ahead a week on my guide trying to DVR the stuff. I didnt even look at Entourage episode, just recorded it. Didnt realize it was a repeat.

I thought it was a pretty weak episode. They even teased us like we were going to get to see some "scissor" action...smdh. Anyhow, I wasn't surprised that it was weak since it seems like they were just trying to set up some story lines for later in the season.

True Blood is going further and further away from the main storyline, which is vampires. They continue to introduce characters and storylines that are boring. Season 1 was by far the best. Then 2 and then 3. This show is losing its luster IMO. This season better have some redemption, otherwise, I'm done with the show.

This episode was weak. We'll see what happens, I don't like Bill as a King.

It isnt straying from anything. It is following the books. It just happens the books get worse and worse, at least based on the show getting worse and worse lol.

I'm pretty sure they have changed quite a bit from the books. I think Lafayette (not certain) dies in the books, but they kept his character because he was a fan favorite. His storyline sucks as does Tera's.
  • wes_mantooth
yeah, I think Lafayette dies really early in the books.

Ok, I dont know that. Some chick I know who read them said they are just following the books from "fantasy to fantasy" Or whatever. Which is why Fairies and the like are central themes. If they wanted to make the show as good as it could be, the vampires would be focus of over half and the rest would be these smaller plots.

I didnt think it was as bad as some of you, and I guess by that I mean the season has some promise. That bitch of a lady/fairy seems like she is trying to kill vampires and humans etc. I think everyone will kind of unite and you might have some sort of war between her and the vampires. The Eric/Bill rivalry for Sookie has some promise. We are starting to develop Jessica as a character (which cant be a bad thing right??:D).

I think if they dont get tooooo carried away with the fairies/witch stuff this can be as good as season 2 was. But that witch crap is old after 1 episode. Its worse than the fairies, and I think they are connected.

I also wish there was a better way to bring Sookie back. I mean, gone for a year is kind of a cop out to advance all the other storylines so you dont have to explain them. Oh well, I suppose. But kind of lame. Just seemed really forced imo.

But overall, it set up stuff nicely for a premier, just a question of if they further the plot lines well and focus on the right stuff, cause the season seems to have promise.

Interested to see what they do to Jason. That was odd.

First episode was slow but picked up at end. Developing a lot of story lines. Shits getting weird.

Your chick friend is wrong, for the most part.

The central theme of all the books has continued to be vampires, especially Sookie's relationships -- first to Bill, then with Eric.

As noted, Lafayette didn't survive book one, and the witches came along later after Katrinia, but played a crucial role in some of the blood letting that happened between supernatural groups.

The fae is much more interesting in the books in that it explains how Sookie came to be, the attraction to vampires, and the in-fighting between fae sects (they're brutal) that led to the death of Sookie's parents. It isn't a dominating storyline, but it has some key moments.

The books are much better than the HBO series has been, for the most part.

The last part of last season was great -- and if they keep following that line, the show would be better.

Finally, Tara is NOTHING like she is in the books, where she's more of a minor character. Also, the Vampire hierarchy with its kings and queens in much better defined in the books -- and Bill is not royalty.

Was I missing something? What happened with Bill's fight with the the Queen at the end of season 3? I assuming he won, since he is King, but they could have at least showed that story. Is she dead?

I'm surw they will look back. Unless the queen wasn't signed for this season
  • Writerbuckeye
Having read the books where the queen was young (as portrayed in the series) but very vicious and cunning (not portrayed in the series), the actress who they signed didn't fit the role as it was written at all. I'm guessing people didn't like how that role was cast. I didn't. I get that Ball wants to make the series his own, but he messed up on that one. If he'd kept the queen closer to the books, people would have enjoyed it. She was much more involved in the politics, the betrayal of Sookie by Bill, and just generally more vicious -- which played a major role in one book's storyline they just ignored. Not sure having Bill as a king will work or not, since Eric has been the dominant vampire in the books. It will be weird seeing the roles reversed. I'll be interested to see how they write it.
  • bLuE_71
I love the series and the books but let's make one thing clear they aren't really following the books much at all anymore.
  • Writerbuckeye
No, they aren't -- which is fine. Except I'm not sure some of Ball's changes are better; just different. The books are a proven commodity.
