Card Games

GblockWhat do you play?
My family plays Euchre. It gets extremely loud and serious and sometimes can lead to fights that last for several days or weeks. We play pretty traditional, no partners best or what not. If you win a best of five you get the imaginary "belt" which requires you to snatch it off the persons waist which usually is quite comical as my brothers usually will try to tackle you if you try to touch them.
Back in the day we used to play some spades. Hearts was outlawed many years ago due to hard feelings when you give someone the queen of spades.
Recently at my GF house i have been introduced to two new games. Up and Down the river and Bid Euchre. I like up and down the river more, but need some more practice. I prefer regular Euchre over Bid Euchre but maybe after i get better at bidding i will enjoy it more. Anybody ever played these games? -
Scarlet_BuckeyeAfrican Gin = best family card game in the word.
Euchre is another great staple. I'm always amazed at the number of people who do not know how to play this game (especially outside of Ohio).
Texas Hold'em is a classic as well. -
gerb131Euchre or Spades mostly.
Sometimes golf if we are betting. -
raiderbuckUsually Spades, but I'm not good at it. I used to play Tunk as a kid all the time.
-
mcburg93spades hearts tonk euchre gin we used to play em all but now its more just plain old poker with some friends every once in awhile

OneBuckeyeOur family mainly plays 3 card games.
Souse - Not sure how to spell it, but that is what our family calls it. Each person gets a deck of cards and makes a Souse pile with 10 cards, top one face up. You begin the game by flipping over your cards in threes (like in solitare) and then you build on cards are stacked in the middle by suit. Aces up to Kings. So you have an ace of spades you put it in the middle and then people can now build on it. You flip through your deck and play what you can while getting rid of your souse pile on the way. When the first person to get rid fo their souse pile is gone you yell souse the game stops and count up points. Each one left in your souse pile counts as -2 and each one you put out in the middle is +1. When you have 10 family members standing around the table trying to play the same cards off their souse pile it gets rowdy. There is no sitting in souse. There are many similar games to this, but can't remember the names.
Progressive Gin Rummy - http://www.ehow.com/how_2088786_play-progressive-rummy.html We play a variation with limited takes (4 takes at 12 cards and 3 for everything else) and we play the set of 12 twice.
Euchre - Classic -
4cards...I played a lot of cards in college. Our game of preference was Hearts but we played a lot of Spades, and gin.
I remember my grandmother talking about a card game called "canasta" (sp.??). Has anyone ever played it, or know how it's played? -
ernest_t_bassClassic Euchre. Bid Euchre. Hand n' Foot. Poker (all sorts).
-
CenterBHSFanEuchre is our family fave.
4Cards, we play Canasta also. It uses two decks of cards and it's kinda complicated (for me) to describe it, but there's tutorials online. A few years ago I bought my stepfather the Hoyle Card game CD and that's how he learned to play. It's just a complicated form of Rummy.
Here's an example of rules:

karen lotzNot really with family, but we play euchre after bowling and golf leagues. Last Thursday we got done bowling at about 8 and then went to eat/play cards. Didn't get home until 12:30. We usually play 4 handed turn up but depending on who wants to, we'll play 3 handed cut throat, 6 handed bid and have even played a few games of 8 handed bid. Gets a little tough to keep track of whats been played in 8 handed. We usually start out at $5 a game and $3 for each euchre and then adjust the stakes depending on how much people owe. Also play all kinds of poker and pinochle.
-
BigAppleBuckeyeOh man, I LOVE Euchre! Learned it at OSU, but ever since I moved back east, no one here knows what it is, or cares to learn.
-
gorocks99Euchre, cribbage, and used to play a lot of pinochle in high school. I forget all the nuances of pinochle but I could probably pick it back up again if I knew three other people that knew the game.

Steel Valley Football31 is the best game ever. Not 21, but 31. Anyone play?

fan_from_texasI play Pitch more than anything else, but also a lot of Hearts, Spades, and Golf. Some cribbage, some euchre, some gin/rummy variations (progressive rummy, etc.). Also some Canasta. I'm up for whatever.
