Dana hates Roy after he complained that Kimbo was getting special privileges on the show. On the Jim Rome show Dana said Roy was the biggest idiot he has ever met.GoChiefs wrote: Dana has to be shaking his head in disgust right now. Lol
Going to be interesting to see if Dana gives him an unfavorable draw. -
HereticMy thoughts after watching the show (only on a couple fights).
1. I have the idea that UFC wanted Kimbo to win to the point where he would have had to knock himself out to lose. After the fight, I figured it would be 29-28 either way. The first round had nothing of note happen, Kimbo won the second easily and Houston won the third (the kick that took Kimbo down was the best blow of the round and I don't think Kimbo did enough to offset that). One judge gave Kimbo all three rounds. Anyone who thought he won all three is crooked or an idiot. Hell, there was just something fishy about the whole fight. Houston's supposed to be this "berserker" KO guy, but all he did was circle and deliver leg kicks. I dunno....this one looked fixed to establish Kimbo, so he could stick around for 2-3 more fights, at least. Even when a leg kick took Kimbo down, Houston was so slow coming after him that he was able to recover. The fight wound up having the "We'll pay you good to take a loss to this guy" vibe.
2. I feel bad for Jon James. He was about 550% better than Hamill, but landed a hard blow a half-second after the bell and got DQ'd. He looks to be a big name in the future, though. Hamill should have beat Bisping if not for more questionable judging and James just owned him in all aspects of the game.
3. Nelson impresses me. I would not have said that before tonight, but I am right now. He took out Schaub with his stand-up. That was the area where Schaub had the advantage. I'll be interested to see how he handles more established competition, but he looked very good against a guy who I thought would use his superior athleticism to win. -
GoChiefs1) I can see your point on that one..yet..it failed to give Kimbo any credibility and didn't help establish him at all IMO.
2) He was DQ'd for the illegal elbow I thought..not for hitting anyone after the bell.
3) Nelson looked good..that's a fact..I too wonder if Dana will try to hold him back in any way. -
Heretic1. While I agree with what you're saying, you can't discount that they were going overboard in trying to give him credibility. Showing Houston's beating of Jardine (a recognized quality opponent) and then having him dance around Kimbo and do very little of anything resembling aggressive fighting just makes me wonder if Houston got brought back under orders to make Kimbo look legit (ie: be respectful/scared of his power....it seemed like the announcers were flabbergasted at Houston's dancing strategy, as it was so different than what he'd shown before....against a dude who's had NO success against competent opposition).
2. Upon reflection, you're right. Still looked dominating, but his mistake that cost him was different than what I'd initially said.
3. I wonder, too. I can easily see Dana feeding Roy to big-time established guys right away due to not liking him. After Mir-Kongo, considering all the buzz about how Roy tapped out Mir in training sessions or whatever, I can see a Mir-Nelson fight in the near future. -
bigdaddy20031. I wanted Schaub to win however I am impressed with Roy's win because I expected him to lay on him and win that way. Don't get me wrong I understand you win however you can but Roy just didn't impress me the whole season.
2. Big Baby is the man but man does he have a glass jaw.
3. Jon Jones is the real deal. I thought so when I saw him fight Bonnar but this fight just reassures me of the point. -
Michael ScottJon Jones does seem like the real deal for sure, but he did deserve the dq. Big Baby is a huge intimidating man but can't take a hit like biddaddy2003 says. Nelson can be a player in the heavyweights because of his size and how he throws his weight around, Dana really does hate him though and that is gonna make for some funny stuff.
