Its nobody's business! (the Tiger Woods fiasco)

  I continually hear "its nobody's business but Tiger and his family's" in reference to him cheating on his wife.
  
  I disagree. This is the price that you pay for being an icon, a celebrity, and a billionaire. Once you cross that threshold of being an icon, you should know going in that your business is everybody's business and that every mistake you make will be scrutinized and magnified a million times. Not saying it is right or it SHOULD be that way, but it is, and he should have expected this and so should everyone else. A 21-month affair is not a small mistake that people can quickly forgive.

  I'm think it's somewhat in the middle here, and I'm on the fence. Since he arguably the most popular athlete in the world, his personal life is obviously going to scrutinized. That said, I was watching The Golf Channel and they were talking about player's reactions. I mean come on, who cares what other players think about this. I didn't see them interviewing Lebron when D-Wade was rumoured to be cheating on his wife with Star Jones(come on D-Wade). I didn't see them asking for Justin Timberlake's opinion on Nick Lachey cheating on Jessica Simpson when he was at Ohio State during Texas weekend.

  I agree. Tiger Woods was never shoved down our throats as an upstanding citizen and family man. He was shoved down our throats as one of golf's greatest champions.

  I feel bad for the wife and kids he never thought about while he was having his fun.
  But other than that, I don't know if I really care about the total story.

  I understand feeling bad for the kids for sure. As for the wife, we don't know if she is completely innocent(not saying she is). Maybe she wasn't the model wife/mother either.

  I think people sacrifice their privacy to an extent when they are in the limelight all the time. However, in a matter like this, when a marriage with two kids involved is at stake....well thats when I think it becomes too personal. Let it play out and then report. All the rumors being started right now may end up killing his family.
  
  While some of them may be true, the way the media reports it is likely to make Elin think they are all true.
  
  
  But for the most part, as a celeb, your life is out there so you must deal with it. But sometimes a situation becomes too serious and this is one of those times.

  Aside from it being anyone's business or not, I just don't understand why people are so fascinated or surprised by it. A rich, talented, good looking(no homo) guy cheated on his wife. What a shock.

  I agree with what Laley stated, I feel bad for the kids and wife having to deal with this publicly. Rumors are ridiculous anywhere you live and our society or news makes it worse for those in the limelight. Even if true is it really any of our business though? Maybe if people still had to wear a scarlet A but I thought that was long gone I guess not. Might not have wear it just hear about it all the time.

  I agree with your post. In addition, a part of me has no sympathy for a woman who marries an athlete or an entertainer. Not to excuse his infidelity, but all of these guys (yes all of them) get action on the side. This sort of thing is just part of the territory.
  
  THen again, she will be cashing in very soon with the alimony, the over priced child-support (she'll get millions a year per child which won't all get spent on them), the book deal, the spots on Oprah, The View, the sit down with Barbara Walters and Katie Couric, the spots on E!, and finally not to mention her own reality TV show following her life post Tiger.

  "Do the crime you do the time". However, his "time" will be for the rest of his life. People won't forget. My guess is we won't see him playing again until just before the Masters. Wow! He is going to be hung by his "balls" for a long, long time. Ouch.

  Unless she's a complete attention whore(possible) I doubt she does all that. Tiger's worth 700 million per last count, she's taking home at least 50 mil. from this thing.

  Once you apologize for your "transgressions" and a voicemail surfaces with you telling some hot chick to take her name off of her phone cuz your wife went through your phone and may call her, I'm pretty sure its no longer "rumors". And I'm betting his wife could care less that its all over the news and is probably heartbroken over the 21-month affair that her husband just had.
  
  Tiger should be pissed at himself for HAVING the affair, not at the media for reporting it and trying to make some money.

  I mentioned this on another thread. A person's right to privacy is what makes this country great, I don't care if you are rich and famous, you should be afforded the same priviledge any average Joe receives. I mentioned that back in the 40's, 50's and 60's athletes did even worse things than what Tiger did, with the reporters having a ring side seat for all of it. The difference is their was an authentic respect for one's privacy back then and they never crossed the line. Some of the biggest sports heroes and legends form those days were complete creeps. Today's media is a complete joke and it makes sick that they have to pry in to every little thing that comes up.
  
  I think what Tiger did is wrong but it's none of my business, I just like to watch the guy play golf and break records.

  Yeah, that one sure. I have read many more rumors. There is no way they are all true. Tiger doesnt have that much tim eon his hands! lol. I agree its his own fault in the end and if he didnt have two young kids I wouldnt give two shits about his struggles right now. But as it were, Elin may be inclined to leave him if she believes more of the rumors, when she may stay with him over what is true.

  Tiger clearly made a terrible mistake. He apologized for it and, according to the statements he released, is trying to make things right with his wife. Yes, he's a millionaire who has been in the spotlight worldwide due to the fact that he's probably the best golfer to ever live. However, when it comes to privacy, his status as an athlete should not matter, in my opinion.
  
  His wife and kids do not deserve to have all this information, and the rumors that have followed, made public to all of us. We're not entitled to know what goes on in the daily life of Tiger Woods. We're supposed to watch him play golf. Tiger is obviously embarrassed that his immoral actions have been revealed, but I think he's probably even more concerned with how this information will affect Elin and his kids. Yes, he should have thought about that before he committed adultery, but now that the mistake is made, I would say he doesn't want to put his family through any more harm than has already been caused. By allowing the media to run with this story, and in some cases make things up as they go, it does more harm than good. That's why his right to privacy should be respected.
  
  I don't understand the philosophy that we should know everything about Tiger and his family just because he's famous. Why? He works hard and has a great talent, but he's still a human being. Why does he deserve to have his mistakes plastered all over the place and the rest of us don't? That just doesn't make sense to me. He makes more money than us, so he deserves more public criticism for his mistakes?
  
  I have lost respect for Tiger throughout this incident, but I'm still going to watch him play the game of golf. He's eventually going to be known as the greatest golfer to ever live, and I'll respect him for that. As a person, it appears he has a lot to work on, but we all have our faults. He'll pay for his mistakes and hopefully be better for them. But it should be completely fine that he wants to handle this situation privately, with Elin only.
