    I haven't seen any threads on this. . .

Official Title: The Dark Knight Rises

Villain Rumor: Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) will be playing Hugo Strange

The version of Strange you’re most likely to see onscreen is the one where the character is a prominent (or celebrity) psychologist with mob ties. In the famous Batman storyline “Prey”, Hugo Strange is tapped by the Gotham P.D. to work up a profile on the Batman, in order to help the police catch the vigilante. Strange is said to have been raised in “Hell’s Crucible,” a tough Gotham neighborhood not far from “Crime Alley,” that infamous site where Bruce Wayne’s parents were murdered. While brilliant, Strange is also violent and unstable – in one version of his origin he was suspended from his tenure at Gotham State University for conducting bizarre experiments that transformed people into mindless, destructive (and deformed) brutes.

Strange becomes increasingly obsessed with discovering who Batman is, and eventually with actually becoming Batman himself (which he eventually does, doing some terrible things in Batman’s name). The twisted villain eventually deduces through his psyche examinations that Bruce Wayne is likely Batman, and uses that knowledge to turn the police against the vigilante and lure Batman to his doom.

    so no riddler eh? damn

Sounds phenom. I am glad they aren't using a villain that's already been done. That's one of the things I loved about Batman Begins.
  • Fab4Runner
    Oh and...

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Wow, if that is the villain, that is awesome.
I'm all for moving away from the typical Riddler, Penguin, Freeze, etc. characters as they seem too cartoonish.
I've always liked the darker Batman stories, and the Joker really plays into that, which is why I loved the last one.

But, Hugo Strange could be awesome if combined with the dark tone of the first two movies. It would be a great transition from the end of the Dark Knight.

It didn't hurt that Heath Ledger did an amazing job with that character. When i heard they were having the joker again, I thought it was a horrible idea because Jack did it so well. I didn't think anybody could outshine him. Boy was I wrong.

I think its a great choice as well. I think Tom Hardy can pull it off too. Other great choices imo could have been Harley Quinn, the Black Mask, the Mad Hatter, or Mr. Zsasz.

Just get rid of that stupid Batman raspy voice. It was tolerable in the first movie, completely ridiculous in Dark Knight

Why don't people realize that the reason Batman has the "raspy" voice is so that no one can pickup on his voice. If Batman talked normal, ala Bruce Wayne, then people would start to piece the puzzle together that Bruce Wayne IS Batman.

Idk... I just don't see how anything can even come CLOSE to topping Dark Knight. Ledger's performance was so brilliant that anything else will simply fall short. As for the character, Hugo Strange, I like the idea, I just don't see it living up the the bar that Dark Knight set.

Mad Hatter is too close to the joker as in Quinn imo. Joker was who I was hoping for, but a joker more in the mold from Saw as opposed to Jim Carey. SMH at Batman Forver/Batman & Robin.

Zsasz had a brief appearance in Batman Begins. I am surprised he hasn't reappeared.

Calling this Batman 3 is a bit of a misnomer since this is really the seventh Batman movie. Although I understand that this is the third film in this Batman saga.

    You mean the Riddler, correct?

Yes I meant the Riddler. Good catch.

Not really. The first two have been so great that to even draw reference to the others would be a disgrace.

i think the scarecrow is going to be a big time player down the road, he's been in the first 2 and i think they are building up to him being a bigtime villain.

Is this not going to be the last one? Not that I'd be upset if it wasn't, I just assumed there would be only three.

Early rumors I heard were Crispin Glover (George McFly) as "The Riddler"....This was over a year ago and doesn't seem to be circulating any more.

I'm biased being a huge Back to the Future fan, but I think Glover as the Riddler would be very good....Likely not Ledger as the Joker good, but close.

Nolan said this will be the last one he will work on. . . but it will make another billion I'm sure. There is no way studios won't try to continue to capitalize off Batman. There are even rumors of a TV show. They'll probably just reboot the franchise like they are doing with Spiderman.

Hugo Strange fits perfectly with how the story has set itself up so far.

Thx captain obvious.....We saw that in the 1st post.

I cant believe the Riddler wont make an appearance, I have a feeling he will be a bad guy in th e3rd dark knight installment, Movies seem to be made in 3's these days. Kinda like 2 face in this past one.....keep the story moving.

Honestly The Dark Knight may be the best Batman movie ever, this coming from a guy who doesnt follow the comic book oe anything! just a casual fan.
