Running advice
-
YtowngirlinflaSo here's the deal. The past few days I've been having some weird knee pain. Not sure what it's from but when I push off it hurts. I also have to run my PFA for the Navy on tuesday. 1.5 miles, I get 16:15 max time to run it. I was a little worried before this pain started cause I would say I'm in good shape at best. I did run a few weeks ago in about 14 mins or so. I have a running buddy that is going to do it with me to motivate me. Anyways am I screwed, little worried since this is actually for my advancement?
-
YtowngirlinflaYeah I know, it's not hard, I'm just worried when I start running its gonna kill but I have to get through it.
-
Glory Dayswhat advice are you looking for? see if you can get your test pushed back a week, if not, you just gotta suck it up and hope the knee holds.
-
YtowngirlinflaI can't push it back as I have to have it done with all my paperwork in to be advanced in May or I'd have to wait till June. I'm not sure what kind of advice I'm looking for other than suck it up lol.
-
Glory Dayshaha well alright then. take an advil before hand i guess and hope for the best.
-
sleeperSeriously, 1.5 miles in 16:15? LOL
I could do that running backwards, what a joke. -
YtowngirlinflaYeah sleeper whatever, your probably also at least 10 years younger than me in age. Probably 20 years in maturity.

sleeper
And 20 years sexier LOLYtowngirlinfla wrote: Yeah sleeper whatever, your probably also at least 10 years younger than me in age. Probably 20 years in maturity. -
I Wear PantsWe're going to have to take the leg.

Mooney44CardsNobody is sexier than ytowngirl.
For the record, after you start running I doubt it will hurt as much. Bodies tend to go numb for the most part during cardio. -
SonofanumpI would not run prior to your test if your concerned, if you need cardio and it really hurts, run in a pool, bike or eliptical.
-
Ytowngirlinflaits tuesday. i am not working out until the pfa.

i think its time to just put her down, she had a good run. she'll be more useful to the glue factory....I Wear Pants wrote: We're going to have to take the leg. -
tk421Where exactly does the Navy feel their sailors will be required to run 1.5 miles in the line of duty? I don't know of many 1.5 mile long ships. Hell, they should have an 800 meter run tops. That'd get you over the side and into the water.

haha no no no, its an average 1.5 miles from the ship when its in port to the nearest bar.tk421 wrote: Where exactly does the Navy feel their sailors will be required to run 1.5 miles in the line of duty? hang_looseGood Luck Ytown!!! Nice shot to sleeper too!

thePITmanYou should not have a problem running 1 1/2 miels in 16:15. If the pain is similar to a bad case of the shin splints (hurts every step but won't keep you from running), you will not have a problem. I've had knee and ankle and shin and hip pains while running. It hurts every step, but it's almost never something that will rendor you disabled. Good luck!

thavoiceI wont give advice at all but i can just tell you waht ive done.
If ya know ur body and run enough u know there are times you can run through pain, discomfort and such and it feels better. And someimes ya gonna shut it down for a few days.
THe last 2 runs I did my knee was hurting for the first 2 miles....once i really got into the runs it felt fine but it was very discomforting especially knowing that your in pain at the beginning of a 14 miler.
i wont tell u to run through the pain....but im saying sometimes...for me......that is what i do and it works itself out. -
Con_AlmaVery true. You have to know your body. You have to know when you are hurt versus when you are injured. Do not run through an injury. You can run through certain types of hurt.

Scarlet_BuckeyeI have a question myself...
I have used the treadmill in our apartment complex, and I always walk 0.5mi (what I think the distance is measured in) to get my juice flowing and then run 1.0mi. Now... I know I am not at the shape level as I was my senior year of high school where I was running 5:45min miles, but when I run on the treadmill now and what I believe the distance is measured in, miles, the associated time is saying I am running these in like 12-16 minutes.
Do treadmills measure distance in miles or kilometers? How accurate are they? I know there is no way I am running a mile in 12-16 minutes. -
Con_AlmaI don't have the answer to your question but you can walk a mile in 15 minutes so I think your concern regarding accuracy is probably valid.

I mean, take for instance yesterday... I was watching the Heat-Celtics game and watched about a solid 3 or 4 minutes of game action. I ran through this the entire time. Then came a commercial break where I kept running. Now... You have to figure commercial breaks are about a minute to two minutes. That takes me somewhere between 5 to six minutes. Now... I'm running at a nice pace here. Definitely not an all out sprint, but definitely not a jog. I would think that I would cover a complete mile at this point and the machine is reading about 0.5 or 0.4. This can't be right, right? lolCon_Alma wrote: I don't have the answer to your question but you can walk a mile in 15 minutes so I think your concern regarding accuracy is probably valid. -
bartsimpsonytowngirl. Go to a good running store and buy insoles called SuperFeet. You main not have a knee problem, it is more than likely related to your shoes and your feet. They're expensive (40-ish), but well worth it.

YtowngirlinflaThanks for all the information. For some reason today it doesn't bother me but I haven't got dressed in my uniform and I noticed the pain when I wore my boots. I'm just hoping for the best tomorrow.
