6 year old commits suicide...

Point taken. But I just know that when I was six, I had no idea what "forever" was. I couldn't imagine no tomorrows. I knew people and animals died, but I don't think my mind was big enough to wrap my mind around the whole factual part of it.Big_Mirg_ZHS wrote:

Technically, the most logical thing to classify it would be a suicide. Smudging rulings, even for this case, is a slippery slope that the medical profession cannot start sliding down.
Very tragic at any rate. -
Devils Advocate^^^ Yes but did you play with matches and burn the house down. Or run with scissors in you hand and poke your eye out.
This is a senseless tragedy, No use in trying to make sense of it. -
thePITmanWow. That stinks.

RedRider1Kids dont think of this on their own....wonder if she heard mom/dad/older sibling use the words "going to kill myself" prior to this.
You can chalk up the act to her not understanding her actions...but the words puzzle me.
Sad....but very curious about the influences around this poor child. -
thavoiceAnyone ever consider the parent doing this and making it look like a setup?
I cannot imagine a kid doing this. Have 6 neices/nephews under the ate of 8....just scary to think they would even think this. -
THE4RINGZYeah it doesn't seem like an idea a six year old would come up with on their on. I am not saying there is foul paly involved, but where does a 6 year old get the concept of taking their own life?

Thunder70The article did say that the parents talked with the kids earlier about the dangers of putting belts around their necks. Looks like the kid knew what the belt would but im sure she didnt grasp the gravity of what death actually is...

thavoice^^So they say..........
I dont know....many times in am a cynic. It very well coulda been an accident, a suicide, but if it came out later that one of the parents did this I would be less surprised than if it was a suicide -

enigmaaxYeah, it all sounds kind of weird. First of all, I get that a parent may have had the talk about putting things around your neck, but the hanging part? It seems natural that a child might be inclined to put things around his/her neck, but tying the other end to something else and hanging is such a deliberate step that I don't understand why that conversation would even come up. It is almost planting the idea.
And I also get that a child could associate the terms death and hanging without understanding the depth or real consequences. But again, for a child to specifically talk about killing oneself or "suicide" specifically seems a bit odd. I can fathom a child knowing that a certain action can cause a certain harm and taking the action as a way to punish the parents or whatever. But it seems like a stretch to go from "I'm going to do something that can kill me" to "I'm going to kill myself".
Obviously we don't know all of the intimate details, but it is difficult for me to not immediately suspect parental involvement other than just having had their child use a simple safety lesson against them to this extreme. -
thavoice^^If they start blaming "some Puerto Rican guy" then we know they are involved....

Heretic
About the same, really. Maybe a little "posting evil things I find funny while drunk = bad idea" chagrin, but that's to be expected from time to time. Sometimes the drunk wit of Heretic leads to L-O-L moments for all, sometimes they lead to WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?!? moments. Such is the fickle hand of fate...Keebler wrote:

Speaking of "lowest fucking" things, I'd imagine that if I was a parent of the deceased kid, I'd probably think it was low that my kid's death has led to such things as this newspaper article, which seems to focus upon the philosophical argument by authorities over whether it should be classed as suicide or an accident. Personally, it seems to be common sense that it's the latter. Little kids tend to be really stupid when it comes to things like thinking beyond the immediate moment. I remember getting in trouble once when I was maybe a year or two older than her and legitimately planning to run away from home because "that'd teach them". I'd about guarantee this was that sort of "I'll teach them to punish me!" act that wound up being tragic because the kid had no concept of things like "hanging yourself can lead to death". -
se-alumI'm not buying suicide at all! If a six year old did want to commit suicide by hanging themselves, it would be VERY difficult to pull off. I don't believe for a minute the child could tie two knots with a belt that would hold up. It's sad that it is much easier to believe that the parents killed their own child, than it is to believe this.

That's what I think, as well. Very sad story.Thunder70 wrote: The article did say that the parents talked with the kids earlier about the dangers of putting belts around their necks. Looks like the kid knew what the belt would but im sure she didnt grasp the gravity of what death actually is... -
GoChiefsSad story indeed..but believe me...a six year old easily can grasp the concept of suicide and death.
As for the parents talking about the belt..there is a 'game' some kids have been playing that involves that. It's becoming more and more common with young kids. I believe maybe that could have been what they were discussing. -
TinkertrainI attempted to kill myself at age 8 and basically understood the concept of what I was attempting.
