Ohio State and the NCAA record...

  • sleeper
Longest winning streak is at 47 games by Oklahoma in the 1950's.

I think Ohio State goes undefeated next year because our defense will be ridiculous and our offense is starting to become very formidable. That puts us at 26-0 going into Urban's 3 year where he probably has his best chance of going undefeated ever(we lose Braxton though in this year so it could be tough losing one of the best players in the country). I think 40 wins isn't out of reach, so 47 sure isn't out of reach.

Thoughts? How many in a row will Ohio State win?

Way too early for talk about the record.

A lot of things can go wrong (injuries being a big one, development of players or lack of development, assistant coaching changes).

I think OSU has a shot at next year as they have proven a lot with this group. Young guys have stepped up during the season because of a rash of injuries with our defense. But anything beyond next year is just too far out to speculate. Too many unknowns such as who will even be there player wise.

I dont think OSU loses a single game with UM as coach.

If Urban doesn't win 100 straight, he needs to be fired.

Oh Christ. It's never "too early" to talk about Ohio State winning games.

When you don't even know what players will be on the field at that point, it's a tad too early to start talking about the chances of winning those games.

12-0 this year was pretty impressive. I'm not convinced next years team will be undefeated. Even if they are in the regular season they still would need to win the B1G championship game and most likely have to win the title game. That would have them at 14-0 and that would be impressive all by itself. And they would "only" be at 26 wins,

If Meyer stays 10 years, OSU should easily be 138-0. Well, maybe more with the new playoff system.

Sounds like someone doesn't follow OSU recruiting. I think we know which players will be on the field; and by "we" I mean real OSU fans.

Because recruits always pan out? I hear Justin Zwick should have been a great QB at OSU while Troy Smith was supposed to just be an athlete and find a spot where he fits.

This isn't Notre Dame we are talking about here. Please stay on topic.

I'm sorry, I thought Justin Zwick and Troy Smith were OSU players.

Well when you said "Players who don't pan out" that's implying Notre Dame and not a team who's won more BCS bowls than anyone.

If Hamby catches the pass in the end zone against TX nobody ever hears of TWHPIH again and Zwick is playing on Sundays still today.

I'm not sure Zwick wouldn't have been replaced eventually but I don't think either QB was great against texas.

    Smith – 7 possesions – 120 yds – 17.1 yds per possession
Started 4 drives in texas territory – 0 touchdowns on those drives
    Drives: 8, 80, -3, 22, 10, 4, -1

    Zwick – 6 possesions – 114 yds – 19 yds per possession
Did not start 1 drive on the texas side of the field
    Drives: 4, 26, 49, 6, 38, -9

TWHPIH cost OSU two NCs back to back single handedly. I've recounted how he did this many times on the OC but most Buckeye fans have very selective memory and refuse to accept the failures of this player and his coach Jimmy The Liar.

Except for the fact that Troy Threw the TD to Holmes earlier in that game.

My biggest worry for next season is the Def Line.

Yes, i know we hit the lottery jackpot in recruiting last season (Spence, Washington, Schutt, etc) but we lose pretty much our whole starting DL this season.

We have a ton of talent behind this year's DL, but we don't know how those guys will play when they are going full time.

The defense was not that great this year to begin with, they had a really tough time tackling quite a few times this season. They did make big plays (turnovers and sacks) but gave up a ton of yards and points throughout the season. Losing pretty much the whole starting DL won't help that any.

The offense will only be better next year, I don't see a problem on that side of the ball.

Florida has won an equal amount of BCS bowls.

    So has USC.

Won more BCS bowls that I've watched with my own eyes.

Looking at Wikipedia, Florida only has 5 to OSU/USC's 6. Of course, both USC and OSU "vacated" one game so technically you are correct, but really OSU and USC have 6 each to Florida's 5.

Yeah I was going with the post-sanction number, but either way.

How is Troy Smith worse than Jason White?
