CCrunner deserved it, because he's probably the dumbest human alive. But still a clear cut violation of the personal attack policy in place.
Because he called him a name?

I thought I explained the difference earlier. Let me grab it for you.
O-Trap;1336285 wrote:Describing someone (ie calling them a name) isn't necessarily an attack. It may be up for discussion, but that hasn't happened yet. "Go fuck yourself" was a specific example of something that had, beyond any doubt, been asserted as a personal attack.
Maybe reading it twice will help it sink in a little bit.

What? If calling someone a fucktard isn't a personal attack, what is? Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Durkie, 'cause he was warned a number of times about his "GFY's"--but please tell me that WebFire's post at least warranted a thread warning?

I know a mod sent it in for discussion, but I haven't seen.

The distinction is that calling someone a name, whether it contains naughty words or not, would have to be discussed, because some asshat on here would start calling people "fricktards" or something idiotic like that. So if that was to be deemed a personal attack, there would either have to be certain criteria to distinguish it from the rest of the names called or name-calling in general would have to be deemed a personal attack.

The distinction is that there had been a site-wide warning about using the term "Go fuck yourself." That was the one phrase where the jury was in. Moreover, Durkie himself had been banned for using it before, so it isn't as though the rule had somehow eluded him. He was specifically told that the phrase was going to be considered a personal attack. At that time, there were no others. Moreover, there was a forum where he could still use it however often he wanted. Instead, however, he decided to post it about 42 times (did a search for that day for posts by Durkie that contained the phrase) in a forum where it wasn't allowed.

In a way, if you're going to be banned, he did it in a rather entertaining fashion, though it made him seem like he had an extreme verbal tick, much like many think of when they hear "Tourette's."

Now, he's trying to find hypocrisy in this thread, but the fact remains that, at the very least, there has been no rule broken mentioned in here that was as clearly outlined as the one he copy-pasted all over the SB forum. Saying "fuck" is not breaking the rules. Being mean is not against the rules. Advocating suicide is not against the rules. Those examples of his in here were all fails. The others were, at worst, either not seen or haven't been decided yet.

Should calling someone an "idiot" be considered a personal attack, whether or not a synonym like "fucktard" is used? I don't know. Maybe there hasn't been enough discussion on it yet. Perhaps there needs to be. Either way, at the very least, that has yet to be determined (unless something has happened to which I am unaware).

Personal attacks can be viewed many different ways. If someone makes fun of someone for misspelling words or using the wrong version of a word can be a personal attack. When people poke fun of someone for suicide over and over again that can be a personal attack. There are no lines on this board for what is right and what is wrong. You can go on the pro sports college sports and you will find multiple times people that should be warned or thread banned. Some of those people should be on week bans. You have mods here that needed to have a week suspension or ban. Its so confusing to know what is right or wrong. This place has many similarities to jjs when it comes to the rules. I like to go read the college sports to keep up on the recruiting but its so hard to get to anything that matters cause you have so many people that ruins threads over there. Its been said this place wants to get better but its not going to happen when the enforcement of rules is not consistent. I have no clue how lotz has not at least had a weeks ban or several thread bans. Its not just him there are many others that deserve bans too. Its so inconsistent you might as well let durkie back. He might have had a melt down but its no where near as bad as what some of these others guys has been doing and getting away with. This is just my opinion and it really dont matter but I hope something changes it seems this place has slowed down a lot.

    FIFY.

I didn't read the rest of your tl;dr post, however per your description of a personal attack/describing someone, why does calling someone a nickname such as "cry4fail," or "turdo" warrant an infraction? Per your description it should not be an infraction.

Oh no. Durkie thinks I'm an idiot. Whatever will I do?

Would you care to elaborate as to why you think so, or would that involve too much effort or thinking for you?

As I recall, I don't think those were deemed a personal attack. I think they received an infraction under rule #2: Do not continually harass other members (this includes moderators).

If another mod wants to weigh in, they can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that was the issue, there.
