Do you think gay couples should be able to adopt children?
-
cbus4lifeYep.
The males i've known who have raised girls always seemed to have positive female role-models for their daughter, and the daughters have said the same to me.
One said that she basically grew up with 3 loving, caring parents.
Really can't ask for much more than that. -
Manhattan Buckeye"I completely disagree with those who think that two males cannot raise a girl properly, or what have you."
Point missed.
They can, it just isn't ideal. When you have thousands of male/female couples in line ready and capable to adopt, you should go with the ideal situation. -
Gblockalthough that lifestyle doesnt jibe w my religious views, what two people do in the bedroom doesnt effect me and i think that sure they can marry and be parents.
-
cbus4lifeFair enough.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeBTW are we even talking about the same thing? Virtually every lesbian I know that has a kid didn't "adopt" in the traditional sense. Actually I think in every case one of the women used a sperm donor and carried the kid to term. That isn't what I'm referring to. I'm referring to a woman having an unplanned pregnancy and deciding to put the child up for adoption (an event which happens far less frequent than many people realize).

HereticI have no problem with it. Any religious aspect means nothing to me and, let's face it, there are a lot of hetero couples who have kids and are horrible parents. When it comes to the raising of a child, I'd be more concerned with how they'd treat/raise the child than their sexual orientation or if said orientation could possibly lead to ridicule from other kids.

All the cases i've personally seen have been traditional adoption cases.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: BTW are we even talking about the same thing? In which states? Ohio? Seriously? How long did they wait? That is really, really weird, especially if the mother is involved in the selection process. In some states I don't think it is even possible.cbus4life wrote:

cbus4lifeOhio.
Not sure if the mother was involved or not. -
CinciX12Who pays for the therapy then for these children when they are made fun of by their peers at school?
I'm not saying that gay people shouldn't be able too, but it does make the kid subject of ridicule during his/her childhood. -
Keith
Kids are subjected to all sorts of potential ridicule in school. If that child comes from a strong family unit, no matter what sexual orientation their parents are, they'll be fine. It's when a kid comes from a dysfunctional home that they have a harder time dealing with the crap they may face in school. I absolutely support the right of a committed gay couple to adpot children.CinciX12 wrote: Who pays for the therapy then for these children when they are made fun of by their peers at school?

There is a lesbian couple down the road from me that has 3 adopted children.Manhattan Buckeye wrote:

3reppomYes. Sexual orientation has no correlation at all with a person's ability or inability to raise good kids.
-
Swamp FoxI don't see anything wrong with it. I've known couples of both pursuasions who have raised children and both have done outstanding jobs. The biggest problems always come from people outside the family that can't help themselves. If discipline is consistent and fair and there is genuine care and concern and love for the children involved, I can't see anything wrong with this. The choice of mates is up to the individual.
-
SageYes.

CinciX12I guess I should have clarified that it doesn't really matter to me either way. The proportion of bad gay parents and bad straight parents would probably be identical.

cats gone wildNo, it shouldnt be allowed. They are living in sin, its not marriage in God's eyes even if they get a certificate, the kids will get made fun of repeatedly. Just because kids get picked on anyways, does it make it right to make sure they automatically get picked on? Dont people care about the CHILD"S interest anymore? Evidently not considering idiots have abortions. There are certain things a mom can teach a kid and a dad can teach a kid. If they dont have a parents of opposite sex, they are going to miss out on alot at life.
And as for me, I HAVE had an adoption license for over a year and havent received a child. And me and my wife are unable to have children. Are you telling me, a gay couple should get a child over me and my wife? You are completely out of your mind if you think gays should receive children over couples of opposite sexes who will care and love a child. And there are PLENTY of couples who know what me and my wife are going through. Bash me if you want, but if you arent in my shoes then you have no right to tell me I dont know what Im talking about. -

Oh Dear God....Yes, I'm telling you that if they meet the criteria they should have the same opportunity as you to adopt. But after reading your first paragraph, and if were up to me to decide...absolutely I would pick a homosexual couple over you.cats gone wild wrote: No, it shouldnt be allowed. Serious question... -
Upper90I don't think that such a thing ensures a child will "automatically get picked on", as a few huddlers have stated from experience already in this thread. Not always the case.

I have never seen a person who claims to be so religious blatantly disregard the teachings of the bible as you.cats gone wild wrote: No, it shouldnt be allowed. krazie45I think they should be able to adopt. I agree with, as said above, that sexual orientation does not make somebody a good or bad parent. Cats, that's unfortunate that you and your wife have not received a child yet....but to say you are superior to another couple based upon nothing other than sexual orientation is simply conceited. Also your point about "there are some things a mom can teach and dad can teach" is also flawed. Many single parents raise their children successfully and by themselves. Also, just because a child's adoptive parents are gay doesn't mean there would be no influence in their life that's of the opposite sex....perhaps an aunt/uncle or a grandmother/grandfather for instance. As for them living in sin, that's your opinion. You have a right to it as an American, but also as an American you have to abide by something called separation of church and state. Your religious beliefs on homosexuality does not mean that a gay couple is incapable of caring for children. This subject always makes me think of the egg episode of South Park which offers a great perspective on this issue for those who haven't seen it.

What the hell was wrong with my parents sending me out in to public KNOWING those damn kids would make fun of my big ass ears!! And after we moved up from Louisiana, they knew those evil little bastards would grab hold of my funny accent and make fun of me because of that!!! DON'T PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THE CHILD'S INTEREST ANYMORE? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T THEY CARE!!!!!
You know who else should be adopting kids? Families of mixed religions; that's right! If you're a Jew married to a Christian, shouldn't be allowed to adopt! It's plain as day in 2 Corinthians 6:14
damn sinners!!!14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
Hell, for that matter, non-christians should not be allowed to adopt children either! What the hell would they teach the kids!! This is by god a Christian nation and only god fearing Christians should be allowed to adopt children because those are the only people that aren't living in sin! SCREW THE HEATHENS!!!!
Ohh, single people, they shouldn't be allowed to adopt either! You just know they're living in sin!!! Besides, what the hell can a kid learn from just one parent! Obviously they learn some things from the male and the rest from the female, so a single parent can't possibly properly raise a child!!!
We should also start checking past marital status of our couples. If either have gone through a divorce*, then they shouldn't be allowed to adopt either!!
(*unless it was approved by the church...of course!!)
Hey cats, we need to further discuss this and determine who else should be allowed to adopted children based on our bible. Where & when should we meet, and do you want me to bring my bible or will we just use yours? Oh who am I kidding, I never leave home with out it!! This will be so much fun!!
