It is shocking.
But in his statement, Bayh cited recent stalemates in Congress.
“Two weeks ago, the Senate voted down a bipartisan commission to deal with one of the greatest threats facing our nation: our exploding deficits and debt. The measure would have passed, but seven members who had endorsed the idea instead voted ‘no’ for short-term political reasons,” he said. “Just last week, a major piece of legislation to create jobs — the public’s top priority — fell apart amid complaints from both the left and right. All of this and much more has led me to believe that there are better ways to serve my fellow citizens, my beloved state4 and our nation than continued service in Congress.” -
ou1980I'm currently living here in Indiana with the wife, and my jaw just dropped!
Unbelievable....The GOP could very well take this seat here...
I thought Bayh was generally a good guy btw. -
hookshotI like Evan Bayh, but he's not telling the whole story on the Debt Commission vote and process.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeI have mixed feeling on this, I always thought Bayh was a great guy and was a DEM that I would have no problem voting for, very smart, seemingly family oriented and an all-around representative that understood his people. Maybe there is more to this story, but I would have figured he was in the running for national politics.

gibby08Got an email from my buddy that lives in Bloomington that said the rumors floating around over there is that Biden is going to step down and Bayh is going to assume the role as VP candidates in 2012

For the gaffs that Biden has Biden> Bayh. Especially in foreign policy.gibby08 wrote: Got an email from my buddy that lives in Bloomington that said the rumors floating around over there is that Biden is going to step down and Bayh is going to assume the role as VP candidates in 2012
Besides, if he does run, what does he bring policy wise? Nothing really. Bayh is a moderate D, great. But, to me at least, doesn't bring much substance to the table. -
gibby08Biden is most likely going to step down over health concerns....
I've also heard that Hilliary may step in as VP and John Kerry or Bill Richardson will become SOS -

LOL in my opinion a UVA Law graduate is much better than a Syracuse law graduate that had to cheat his way to his degree. Biden was one of the first (of many) mistakes Obama made. -

Richardson, Kerry? Dear God.gibby08 wrote: Biden is most likely going to step down over health concerns....

I'd rather have current Deputy James Steinberg, former Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns, Richard Lugar, or even Chuck Hagel than either one of those two.
Clinton as VP, I'm a little uneasy about that.
I don't see why Biden wouldn't stay on. If Cheney can stya on with his heart, Biden can stay on. -
gibby08^^^
As you know...Biden has had a history of brain issues and his wife was hesitant about letting him become the VP in 2008. The rumors I've been hearing is that a deal was made where Biden argeed to be the vP for the first term, then Hilliary will step in as VP and a new SOS will be named -

meh, I don't see it...unless things don't pick up by then but I think it will (regardless of whether his policies help or hurt), and I think the public will give him the 2nd term. I don't see anyone on the Right who can beat him if things are on the up and up then, and I can't see someone coming out of "right field" that we don't currently know aboutWriterbuckeye wrote:

BoatShoes^I felt like Brit Baier and Megyn Kelley on Fox News were suggesting that Evan Bayh might run for president because in his speech he said "I'm an executive at heart"

I doubt many people really care where they got their law degrees 40 years ago. It took Sarah Palin 3 colleges to graduate with a degree in communications, yet she hasn't had any problem succeeding in politics.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: "Bayh is a moderate D, great. Manhattan BuckeyeWhat has Palin done? It isn't as if she has any power, right? I'm not a fan of hers but she has had nothing to do with the pathetic political class we have now.

Chuck Hagel? Wow...talk about reaching across the aisle. LOL. I don't think a D has ever asked an R to be a running mate or vise versa. I would love to see it though. Hagel would tell Obama to bring the boys home from both Iraq and Afghanistan...as in right now.
Hagel does need to have a high position at least...he's a great man, IMO. -
FootwedgeFormer Republican Senator Hagel regarding the Bush administration...
"I have to say this is one of the most arrogant, incompetent administrations I've ever seen or ever read about."
Gotta love Hagel. -

If he keeps on the course he has for the past year, he'll beat himself.
Also, if his administration/staff continues with their shenanigans, the public will be so turned off (ala Bush) that it won't be a difficult decision. Nancy Pelosi is doing her best to make people nervous about the democratic party, other politicians are bailing...
Look around. Even the most die-hard Obama fans are disgusted with this government health insurance bill they got going on right now.
This government is listing so far to starboard that something or somebody will have to balance keel. -

She was/is very popular among a segment of the population. Was using her as an example that the general public doesn't care about politicians' education.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: What has Palin done? -

Heh, I'm not sure that's a good example. Obama graduated from Harvard law (I WAS ACCEPTED TO HARVARD LAW), there isn't anything great about that, the pimply faced kid you see at McDonald's has more real world experience than most people in DC politics.2kool4skool wrote:
