Get ready for more "intimate" TSA screenings

Maybe. I will say the best flight I've had recently was with Frontier where pretty much everything is a la carte.ptown_trojans_1;1839940 wrote:My guess is they would do just as little as possible to make a profit and end up charging all of us just to go through security. It is all about making and saving a buck with them. -
justincredibleI'd be curious to see how much federal regulations add to the operating costs of running an airline. I would imagine it's not insignificant and could probably be paired down a lot to allow airlines to operate a little easier.

That's not true, they stopped Shaun Rogers from bringing a gun onto a flight.justincredible;1839895 wrote:What happens when they find out that these new procedures are completely ineffective? Will you accept more invasive measures? -
Belly35I'm good with TSA however I think, no fly two time felon, no fly 6 year unemployed over 40 and profiling, should be added protocol

lol, even gibby as a TSA agent couldn't fuck that one up.Commander of Awesome;1839955 wrote:That's not true, they stopped Shaun Rogers from bringing a gun onto a flight.
What does this mean? (aka translation please)Belly35;1839957 wrote:I'm good with TSA however I think, no fly two time felon, no fly 6 year unemployed over 40 and profiling, should be added protocol -
SportsAndLadyThere were 3,100+ times someone tried to get a gun through TSA (I'm assuming almost all of them an accident..).
Not sure if I'm going to be called a TSA apologist. But I definitely don't think they're completely inept and useless lol. -

I just looked at one of my flight receipts:justincredible;1839943 wrote:I'd be curious to see how much federal regulations add to the operating costs of running an airline..
$27.56 US transportation tax
$ 8.20 US flight segment tax
$11.20 9/11 security fee
$ 9.00 passenger facility charge
$400+ ticket, so about 12% in taxes and fees (although 2 or 3 of those might be flat rates) -

Completely? I guess that's debatable.SportsAndLady;1839991 wrote:There were 3,100+ times someone tried to get a gun through TSA (I'm assuming almost all of them an accident..).

That said, they fail 95.7% of the time on self-performed weapons detection tests. Thus, we can reasonably assume that 50-60,000 weapons fly each year in carry-ons.
They suck pretty hard. -

How long before we all just strip down to our underwear to go through airport security? -
BRFI've encountered quite a few assholes going through TSA. I have the pre-check, which helps a lot, but still........
The Adam Ruins Everything clip was quite interesting. -
justincredibleWhat happens when a terrorist decides he's going to strap on a suicide bomb vest, find a busy airport with a long, slow security line and detonate himself as centrally as he can? He hasn't gone through security at that point and everyone waiting in line is a sitting duck. Does the TSA make us safer or does it just provide the illusion of safety?

Laley23I think I fly more than everyone on here??? I had 188 segments last year. Over the last 4 years on this job, I've only had 1 annoying interaction. Where I had a tiny screwdriver in my carryon which I forgot about. Went 3 months, finally TSA caught it (definite weapon. The large ones no, tiny screwdrivers are like knives though). I laughed and said take, guy asked why I laughed and I told him that he, personally, has missed that in my bag about 10 times over the last few months.
I do have TSA Pre-Check which is nice. And I know what to wear to travel, so I never take anything off or out of my bag and I'm through security in about 3 minutes. I don't mind it because I'm in the minority of unaffected travelers 99.9999% of my flights. But I also don't pretend they are good at their job. They catch obvious stuff like guns but miss stuff that is just as dangerous. I also despise the liquid law. I can buy everything you just confiscated in 5 minutes at the store inside the airport. -

I think it is a little bit of both. Americans love them security theater. Hell, we're going to build a $30 billion wall that will stop nothing and everybody in my yuppie sub division needlessly has ADT.justincredible;1840283 wrote:What happens when a terrorist decides he's going to strap on a suicide bomb vest, find a busy airport with a long, slow security line and detonate himself as centrally as he can? I think I would be more concerned with this than the TSA.:RpS_blink: -

A couple times, I have. Most of the time, I'm annoyed and would be happier if I, and everyone else on my flight, could just get to our gate without the TSA.SportsAndLady;1839938 wrote:Do you honestly feel "molested" when you go through TSA?

I mean, they're going to catch the obvious ones, but there's really nothing to suggest that the guns mentioned above (just as an example) wouldn't have been caught before 9/11. It isn't as though there was no security prior, and it's not as though the TSA has been the only, or even effective, form of security added since.BoatShoes;1840811 wrote:I think it is a little bit of both. ZunardoAauurrgghhh. Flew from Columbus to Denver this past Friday, my first time on Frontier Airlines. Had "TSA pre-check" clearly marked on my boarding pass, and the Columbus TSA agent directed me to the privileged line where I kept my shoes on and just walked thru a metal detector. No muss, no fuss, good to go. I'm liking this "pre-check" thingy.
Flew back home today, Frontier. Once again, my boarding pass clearly has "pre-check" on it, and the ticket agent directs us to the appropriate hallway to go thru TSA. This time, there is no pre-screen sign or line. The TSA agent tells us, "oh, everyone goes thru the regular screening here, there's no pre-check line".
When I balked and pointed to the boarding pass, she said, "oh, if you want, you can go thru the other security check-in, they have a pre-check section there, but that's at the other end of the airport ................". So I still gotta take off the shoes and assume the position in the X-scan machine - and after that some whippersnapper not old enough to shave says he's going to "pinch" my collar in few places ......... wait a minute, you've got the best x-ray machine known to mankind, and you want to pinch my collar???
The only thing preventing me from a meltdown was that they didn't tell me to take off my belt. Good thing, too. I left my suspenders at home. -
justincredibleI don't know about you, but those pinches make me feel a lot safer.
-
SportsAndLadyPinched your collar?! How ever did you make it through such intrusive measures?
I hope you're okay zunardo. My prayers are with you during this difficult time. -
GOONx19Those X-scan machines are unacceptable. And there's nothing worse than removing your shoes for 3 minutes.
-

You're missing the point. WTF does pinching someone's collar accomplish? It's not that it's necessarily intrusive. It's that is utterly pointless, a huge waste of time, and does absolutely nothing to make flying one iota safer.SportsAndLady;1844435 wrote:Pinched your collar?! justincredibleIt's a well known fact that the TSA will now be pinching everyone's collar. I guess the terrorists won't hide their bombs in their collars anymore.
-
justincredibleBut, hey, if we give you a "TSA pre-check" approval you can board with all of the collar bombs you want.
