Trump vs. Hillary (NO OTHER OPTIONS)

    Lester Holt sucks.

Anyway.....why is the Democratic narcissist dressed all in red (looking like Trump's favorite power tie), while the Republican narcissist is wearing a blue tie?
  • Spock
He just reached out and smacked Holt right in the face

My beef was Holt was when he admonished the audience for cheering Trump but let's them cheer Hillary. Also he argues with Trump but won't argue with Hillary.

I watched the first five minutes and then turned the tv off in favor of reading a little while. I just couldn't take much more than that to listen to these two screwballs. So, I'll just take everybody's word for it.

Did you expect any substance? All this did was solidify even more that trump is not presidential. I'm willing to bet Hillary gets a boost in the polls and will ride that to a comfortable win.

Hillary definitely did nothing to write home about at all, but Trump literally had to do one thing: Prove he's capable of holding to the format and not be an interjecting jackass, and couldn't for more than 5 minutes.

HC leaning over the stage after debate.......those 2 guys standing by her are acting like they are ready to catch her when her parkinsons kicks in

Again, that's the take of the more educated voters, where Trump already does poorly. But many other voters mistake that for strength and leadership.

I say this is mostly a push. Trump played the bully expertly, but Hillary deflected it just as easily. Trump wasn't as assholic or clownish as I expected, and that's about as close as I'd get to saying anyone "won" this debate.

I predict CNN's poll will show 80% saying Hillary won, while Fox has 80% saying Trump won.

I think him calling her Secretary Clinton all night probably helped him.

One thing we have learned from this election cycle is that conventional wisdom has been a fail. The appeal of the unscripted candidate to the unwashed has been greatly underestimated. Hillary herself does not understand why she is not up 50 on Trump. Though a lot of that has to do with her dishonesty and unaccountability under the law. It is well known among the electorate she is not held accountable because of her political class. Trump remained Trump and Hillary did not pass out or cough one time. Did not have to water herself. That is some stamina. That about sums it up.

Why does anyone actually watch debates? Is it entertainment for you? It can't be, right? That's gotta be the most boring 90 minutes of your life. It sure as fuck can't be for enlightenment. You're not expecting to learn anything in a debate, right? I don't understand the appeal.

I watch it for the same reason I watch NASCAR. I don't care who wins, i just want to see a good wreck.

Well in this case you had the Donald factor. Potential train wreck and he delivered. In this day and age though, I am not sure if debates really sway the polls that much.

The crazy thing a lot of liberal polls (I'm not even going to count conservative polls) have trump winning the debate. How the fuck is that even possible? Did people just watch the first 30 minutes?

I'll take this bet. No way Hillary gets a boost from last night.

I think she will have at least a 2 point boost.

Well, I don't think the needle moves much either way from this "debate". It could have, probably, had Trump not missed opportunities in my estimation. In the three areas in which he became bogged down, for/against Iraq war, his tax return, and the birther issue, he could simply have answered in one sentence and then turned the tables in each case against her, or simply went on to subjects that The People really care about. He would have served himself much better in doing so.

He could also have made specific points about damaging over-regulation and obamacare in talking about a return to economic prosperity, along with tax rates.

When she mentioned his plan would add $5 trillion to the debt (which is wholly inaccurate), he should have said you added twice that amount, how can you begin to lecture about that topic.

When she talked about his businesses and that 4 went through bankruptcy, he could have said yes, but my overall success rate is over 90% with all my businesses, your success rate, with all your decisions, is about 0%. Furthermore, your side has bankrupted the entire country, saddling every household with over $100,000 in new debt. You are the bankruptcy expert.

And in talking about her damaging foreign policy he should have weaved in points about her pay-to-play criminal operation at State, and the fact that there is no way we can trust her to make good decisions when she is on the take from foreign interests through her Foundation. If she were serious about transparency, she should have shut it down.

Tons of material to work with, but he missed a lot of opportunities. Still though, it does not change the fact that she is a deceitful and corrupt, serial lying, money-launderer who does nothing but pander for personal gain. All of her proposals require BIGGER government, which inherently means less freedom for The People.

^ I think that those points you mentioned will start to be pointed out in the next two debates. A moderator, at some point, will turn a jaundiced eye at Hillary. Trump had his critical questions last night.

Of course I don't think it will be a moderator from CNN who will ask critical questions of Hillary. Most likely it will be Wallace from FOX.

I watched some areas of last night's debate this morning and heard numerous snippets of it on the radio:
    In my opinion:

Trump sounded immature and impulsive. No surprise there. He just doesn't have the equanimity to constrain himself.
Clinton's academic sangfroid did her no favors, either. She just doesn't have the moxie to improve her "presence".

Conclusion: They're both unfulfilling in their aspirations.

spent alot of time on the birther issue and Holt didnt go after emails/benghazi/failed russian reset/Iran deal etc...... softballs for HC and fastballs for Trump.

What a joke. Trump won because he cleared a low bar tonight. HC hit her head on hers. She should of looked way better and the average voter now thinks she is a career politician with no resume

HRC won the debate pretty easily mostly because she kept to her script and used small potshots at Trump effectively. Trump took the bait and went off the rails and failed to hammer HRC like we all expected him to do.

Holt is a partisan hack though and you could really tell the bias was present. However, in a question about cyber attacks on this country, how the hell does Trump not knock HRC out with a response? If there's ever a softball in a debate, that was it and he failed.
