US soldier freed by Taliban after 5 years

CenterBHSFanHe really should die by fire. Wouldn't bother me a bit. Maybe have it on close circuit tv/ppv.

I know that my opinion sounds harsh, brutal and medieval. Over the top mean-spirited, even. I'm ok with that.Automatik;1771021 wrote::RpS_glare:
I don't care what his architectually engineered answers were on that podcast. He's had a lot of time/lawyers/psychologists to construct his verbal point of views and opinions. He's not dumb. He was willing to throw away his family, friends and country to go join the enemy. Plain and simple. He did his research, he said his goodbyes. It didn't work. Not only did his actions result in a lot of money being wasted, he cost others their very lives. And in the end, he ended up being a caged pet.
All of this is why I don't think being simply jailed is enough.
We as a country need to stop being so hand-wringing worried about what is brutal, savage and insensitive. We need to start making examples out of the worst of the worst, again. And certainly Bowe Bergdahl has made the case that he is the worst breed of person who is willing to do anything to do what he wants. He's a sort of pathos that shouldn't be catered to by receiving the gift of life, however arrested that life my be.
I don't want him to be able to be smug about living or anything else for that matter.
I guess that's all I have to say about that. -

It's a podcast. I'm on Android and use pocketcasts to listen. I'm sure all podcast apps have Serial.Midstate01;1771091 wrote:What is this and how do I watch? -

You seem to already have a set opinion on the situation. I just want to know more.CenterBHSFan;1771101 wrote:I know that my opinion sounds harsh, brutal and medieval. Over the top mean-spirited, even. I'm ok with that.

Mine is very simple and I'm not excusing anything he did, but for now my take is he was a young, naive, dumbass. I don't think he willingly joined the enemy. -

Yeah, I do, admittedly.Automatik;1771116 wrote:You seem to already have a set opinion on the situation. I just want to know more.

Fair enough for your reasoning, also. Nothing wrong with trying to learn more and perhaps understand. -

Desertion in the time of war is punishable by death.
Im going to assume he gets like 20 years.
Dawned asshole and it's disgusting to see the deserter wear all his service stripes and get promoted I believe 2 ranks.
As a disclaimer...POWs do earn those years...but to me deserters to wear all that he does not deserve is a slap in the face to those who really were captured while fighting and didn't justwillingly wonder off. -

Fuck this guy.He acknowledged that being called a traitor was offensive.
"You know, it’s just insulting frankly," Bergdahl said. "The idea that they would think I did that."
He can die in a fire."Doing what I did is me saying that I am like, I don't know, Jason Bourne," he said. -

AutomatikCompletely forgot about this after I finished Serial. Any word on when a sentence will be given?
Also, I wonder...with his past issues before entering the army, how was this wackadoo even allowed to enlist? -
isadoretoo fucked up for the Coast Guard, that discharged him after 26 days in service, but the army took him.

The sentence hearing started today. I assume it will be delivered sometime this week or early next. Good question regarding enlistment. They really fucked that one up.Automatik;1878377 wrote:Completely forgot about this after I finished Serial. Any word on when a sentence will be given?

Good podcast to listen to interviewing one member of Bowe's fire team. He discusses Bowe before, during and after deployment.

AutomatikI saw the Tweet from 2015 stating he should be executed and he was responsible for the death of 5 soldiers (which was incorrect).
Nice one Don! -

I don't know what Don said, but the soldiers who were on the same fire team as Bowe completely disagree with the bolded despite what the Serial podcast told you. Not to mention the resources that were being used to find him, which could have been used for other soldiers/missions. That had a severe impact on them. Bowe is a piece of shit and at the very least his citizenship should be revoked.Automatik;1878574 wrote:I saw the Tweet from 2015 stating he should be executed and he was responsible for the death of 5 soldiers (which was incorrect).

AutomatikSo the Command Sergeant who said none were killed looking for him was incorrect? I agree he should be punished heavily, lock his ass up, remove anything he had to do with the military from record, no honorable discharge. Currently having an easy desk job is also ridiculous.
I'm just all for accurate information, not popping off on Twitter for someone to be executed based on something that MIGHT be correct. -

Listen to the podcast I posted if you get the chance. Bowe's roommate states soldiers died looking for him. He also doesn't think highly of the slanted story line for Bowe on Serial.Automatik;1878589 wrote:So the Command Sergeant who said none were killed looking for him was incorrect? AutomatikI'm gonna subscribe and listen. I need a new podcast for the rotation, looks like something I'd be into.

AutomatikAwesome podcast, but it wasn't really anything I didn't already know. I read a ton of accounts regarding the situation from all sides.
After listening, I think I'm with them regarding punishment. Dishonorable discharge and get him the fuck out of the country. No reason for taxpayers to foot his prison bill for X amount of years (or possibly the rest of his life).
