I say bring it on full force. Only when the sheeple feel the brunt of the ineptitude, blindness, and stupidity will they finally see the light.gut;1334088 wrote:The lemmings just don't realize that Obama is a narcissist that only cares about his own agenda. It's one that will only hurt them in the long-run. In cases of depressions and sovereign default it's the poor that suffer disproportionately, and that's the path Obama is taking us down.
I have little empathy at this point. You voted for it, prepare to reap what you sow.
No wait....maybe not. -

But if people really take their ball and go home (or, more accurately, quit working like you and your buddies) then there won't be anyone for you to leach off of.isadore;1334281 wrote:you guys can all take your ball and go home, but we will have to keep your tax money to help balance the budget and cover entitlements.
Do you think the rich people are rioting in the streets of Greece? Do you think after an economic collapse that the rich people starve and struggle to survive? Do you think Warren Buffett is going to take you in? -

....The single most important factor behind the projected growth in federal spending is the growth in health care spending, driven primarily by the growth in Medicare spending per beneficiary. The outlook has already improved as a result of significant changes in the delivery and payment of health care services in the Affordable Care Act. As a result of these changes, growth in Medicare spending per enrollee is projected to slow to 3.1 percent a year during the next decade, about the same as the annual growth of nominal G.D.P. per capita and about two percentage points slower than the annual growth of private insurance premiums per beneficiary.
Speeding up the pace of the Affordable Care Act changes along with others, such as reducing subsidies for high-income beneficiaries and drug benefits and introducing small co-pays on home health-care services, would mean even larger Medicare savings.... -

I noticed you ignored my main point that was that Obama almost completely ignored the economy during his first term and attacked the health care issues instead.
If he had gone after the economy and it had even started to improve instead of be completely stagnant, then he would have won the election in a historic landslide. -

I have made my feelings about Obama's small stimulus and lack of fighting for it well known here so I didn't feel it worth while to spell them out again. I agree, a large WWII stimulus would've won him the day but he wasn't interested in listening to the keynesians at the time.jmog;1334621 wrote:Awe, you found a left wing blog that agreed with ACA, I bet that was hard to do.

And also, the economics forum at the New York Times is not a run of the mill shill blog like say something like powerline, thinkprogress or theblaze. And also, perhaps instead of attacking the source, you might find evidence that substantiates your claim that obamacare isn't controlling costs when I cite a respected economist who cites evidence that growth of health care costs has been tapered by the ACA. -

The conditions surrounding WWII do not exist today. An emergency is an emergency....whether it is the rise of the nazis, catastrophic unemployment or an alien invasion. On the domestic side we face similar circumstances...persistent catastrophic levels of unemployment that are destroying our long term potential gdp. Just because our country is many times wealthier than during the great depression and thereby making the suffering less palpable does not mean this is not a disaster.majorspark;1335080 wrote:The conditions surrounding WWII do not exist today. The weaponized deficit spending in response to WWII was large enough that it served the ancillary purpose of finally ending the catastrophic unemployment from the great depression and we should've learned from it rather than repeating the same mistake of prematurely turning to austerity that we made in 1937. -

believerNo collapse - yet - but certainly no economic boom either under Barry's Rule.
6 straight years of Big Gubmint spending and we still have high unemployment (despite the "official" numbers coming from the Feds) and under-employment.
But keep sucking down the kool aid.... -

gutObama - the great part-time jobs creator. And labor participation rate is still the lowest in nearly 40 years.
Truthfully, the Obamaconomy is the failed Bush fiscal and monetary policy on steroids. Some people understand this, others are kool-aid drinkers clueless about economics. And plus the Obamacare disaster (which essentially spent tens of billions to sign-up people for Medicare who weren't aware they qualified).
Now if you want to talk gas prices and their impact on Russia...Obama nut-huggers will give him all the credit, despite doing all he can to hike prices higher and favor alternative energy. Credit here really goes to Bush and "drill baby, drill" (and, perhaps, a Republican Senate that will finally pull the Keystone Pipeline from under Harry Reid's ass). -

I disagree. A full payroll tax cut that would have increased the federal government's budget deficit would actually have made things even better as the average worker would have about $600 extra per month with a high propensity to consume. Indeed, the opposite of anything resembling an economic collapse.majorspark;1689811 wrote:We can only be thankful to God that the draconian Keynesian spending you humped never saw the light of day or this thread may have come to fruition.
Since we didn't get a deficit-causing payroll tax cut it's a good thing we have Obama who was smart enough to appoint Janet Yellen to the Fed and not Romney/Ryan who lectured Bernanke about currency-debasement.
