What the hell is an Obama mural doing in Scott High School?

Scott's district isn't one of the shittiest areas in the state, FYI. The district has more Victorian-area homes in it than any place east of the Mississippi, a world-famous Museum of Art, a Catholic cathedral, etc etc etc. A big portion of the district is on the upswing from gentrification.

    Yes.

As usual, Mahatten Buckeye hit the nail on the head here along with sjmvsfscs08.

In the old days, a presidential portrait was a 5 x 7 that usually sat above or next to the American Flag or the very back of the classroom. It was there to demonstrate pride in the United State of America, not for hero-worship.

I wondered when this was going to get moved

Job for what ? ---- they are championing the Dependency President.

If so, they will be lying.

I guarantee none of you have the balls to ask. I doubt it is political but you narrow minded guys have made it that way. Call TPS and protest if you're so in arms about it. We'll see how well that goes.

So would you support a Romney mural being painted at Scott? Or is this one of those black people things that whites are incapable of understand, like the pain you went through dealing with slavery?

If Romney was the President I would have no problem with it. The rest of your drivel is just that "drivel". You guys need thicker skin.

You didn't answer my question, was it hard for you to deal with slavery?

Let's keep it simple...the mural of Obama is there because he is the first BLACK president, and it's there at Scott high school because it is made up of 95%+ BLACK students. No more, no less.

I answered the important question. The other is more of your garbage and like I said drivel.

Martin Luther King was a political figure. We must stop celebrating MLK day and remove any images of him from schools.

So you would be okay with a school that is 95% white to have Romney campaign slogans painted on the school?

I'm not up in arms about this or anything else. However, if the people at Scott claim that there is no political element to this, they are telling flat out baldfaced lies. It's really that simple.

That's your opinion to say the least. It just as simple as what vball10set stated.

Ehhh, would you want to live in that area though? I have lived my whole life in Toledo. The area that Scott High is located, while once beautiful and thriving, is very shitty now. Perhaps not THE shittiest in the state, but definitely one of the shittiest in terms of crime, drugs, poverty, etc.
  • sjmvsfscs08
I would absolutely live in the Old West End. If I end up back in Toledo I would seriously consider renovating a house there. The OWE actually has one of the lowest crime rates in Toledo due to vigiliant neighbors. Would I live east of the OWE? FUCK NO. Not yet at least. I would love to live between Collingwood and 75 though.

You could not pay me to live in north Toledo or sections of East Toledo. No fucking way.

Is MLK running for office this fall?

Not only is the mural inappropriate, it would probably be illegal in schools that shut down for election day to be poll locations, as my dad's employer did for years. If Ohio is like most jurisdiction there is a restriction on campaign materials within "X" distance of a poll location.
  • sjmvsfscs08
Scott High School is not a polling location, but Waite and Bowsher are. I wonder if they have Obama murals.
  • rmolin73
    Lol at you checking.

It took you about as long to laugh and type that as it did for me to do the google search.

Yeah, God forbid someone use actual facts around here.

Yeah God forbid people taking something for what it simply is.
