It's not a question of getting hired, it's a question of getting fired. When I was a high school teacher, I was nearly fired because I was seen going into a gay roller skating party. I saved my job by lying about my sexuality. This never should happen.sleeper;905798 wrote:Sexual orientation should not be a protected class. Do most job interviews ask if you bang dudes or chicks? It's just another way for gays to get special treatment if they don't get a job to raise hell with "I didn't get the job because I'm gay". -

Not wanting kids to be bullied and to commit suicide is not dumb. The gay world is doing everything in its power to prevent these suicides. That's a lot more than I can say for any church or governmental agency.WebFire;905294 wrote:Sorry. This could be one of the dumbest things I've ever read on OC. And that's saying something! -

Find me a actual case, with a link where someone was fired for being gay and said company did not lose a lawsuit.FairwoodKing;905887 wrote:It's not a question of getting hired, it's a question of getting fired. I have asked this question numerous times but you just keep giving anecdotal evidence like "this guy I know..." "I read a story..." -

Right back to the bashing of religions/Christianity huh? You never fail at doing that do you FWK.FairwoodKing;905890 wrote:Not wanting kids to be bullied and to commit suicide is not dumb. I just made a statement of fact. I have never heard of a church that has gotten into the bullying issue.jmog;905917 wrote:Right back to the bashing of religions/Christianity huh? You never fail at doing that do you FWK. -

No it shouldn't happen. And if you worked for a company that employs over 35 people, well, they must abide by federal statutes...and not fire you for your sexual orientation.FairwoodKing;905887 wrote:It's not a question of getting hired, it's a question of getting fired. With that said, if you thought you might get fired for attending a "gay bash", right or wrong...I wouldn't have attend the gay bash. In my new line of work, it was a pre requisite that I be a Christian in order to be hired. Was that right? Probably not...and if my company was big enough, they probably would not be able to get away with that.
FW...you should take solace in the fact that the understanding factor has increased tremendously and moreover, the acceptance is today quite remarkable...if compared to what it was 25 years ago.
I don't believe it enhances "the cause" though when the homosexual community feel the need to have national parades in major cities. Gay people are gay people. Who cares? I don't. Live your life...enjoy your life...you are free to do so. But please don't continue to play the "quit bashing us" card day after day after day. The vast majority of straight people don't give 2 sh1ts about your orientation...and that's the way it should be. -

Is there such a thing as a straight roller skating party if you are over the age of about 10?FairwoodKing;905887 wrote: I was seen going into a gay roller skating party. -

Unfortunately, this is not true, as the voters in California proved recently. There was a state-wide referendum for allowing gay marriage. The Mormons and the Catholics went crazy over this. They lobbied very hard for its defeat, and, in fact, it was defeated. If the majority of people just didn't care, referendums like this would pass in every state. -
bigkahunaI wish I could rep everyone besides FWK in this thread, who is basically bitching because people don't give a shit about what he cares about.

So all this happened because they looked gay? Because that's the only way anyone would know they were gay, unless you were announcing it to everyone.FairwoodKing;905885 wrote:Oh yes we do. I have gay friends who were in the military who were terrified the entire time they were in it. They were not just at risk of being thrown out, they were also at risk of being imprisoned and of facing court marshal. There was also a very bad set of incidents that happened at the Air Force Academy. A number of gay cadets were sexually assaulted. When they complained to their superiors, they themselves were thrown out of the academy.
And you think being allowed to tell everyone you are gay is going to stop abuse? Right or wrong, it won't. -

People caring if you are gay, and agreeing gays should marry, are two separate issues in my mind.FairwoodKing;906020 wrote:<<The vast majority of straight people don't give 2 sh1ts about your orientation...and that's the way it should be. >>

So, if you haven't heard of a church that has tried to help in the "bullying issue" then it is a fact that none has?
So by that logic since I have never heard of a person getting fired because they are gay then it is a fact that no one ever has been fired for being gay. -

Just because someone doesn't think that two guys or two girls should be allowed to marry doesn't mean they hate gays or care if someone is gay or not. You are too jaded to see the difference and think rationally about the subject.FairwoodKing;906020 wrote:<<The vast majority of straight people don't give 2 sh1ts about your orientation...and that's the way it should be. >>

WriterbuckeyePersonally, if someone wants to put their life on the line to protect me -- I could give a crap who they have sex with so long as I don't have to watch (well, unless they're really, really hot, of course. )
Seriously, knowing how professional most military people are, I doubt very much there will be much in the way of announcements going on. That said, I'm glad they won't have to worry about getting booted if someone happens to see them out someplace with a date, or answering a simple question about their social life if one of their friends asks. It's not an "announcement" to say, "I have a date" if a friend asks what your plans are, and then asks who the date is with. Most people simply answer the question and move on; and hopefully that will be the case here. -

you know straight cadets are sexually assaulted too. when they complained, why did they even have to bring up being gay?FairwoodKing;905885 wrote: There was also a very bad set of incidents that happened at the Air Force Academy. Ok, let me try again. You claiming gays are solely responsible for the fight against bullying may be the dumbest thing I've ever read on the OC. Now are we clear?FairwoodKing;906164 wrote:No, I don't know what you meant. I only know what you said. I didn't twist anything around.
