Saying that the Mormon Church opposes gay rights is not stereotyping. It is a well-known fact. It's surprising how unsympathetic the Catholic Church is, considering how many gay priests there are.
At any rate, the gay world knows who its enemies are. We have to fight these people in order to gain our rights. -

So if someone has a different view from you, he/she should be tolerant to your views. However, you want to fight those that hold that different view? -

Gays have no power to hurt Mormons, but Mormons have the power to hurt gays. That's the difference. -

No Mormon (or anyone else) is going to stop you from doing what you want to do in your bedroom. I think most people are indifferent to it. I really don't care what you do in your bedroom. Some of the tactics that the gay community uses where they get in people's faces are a turn off. I know they just do it for attention, but it gets old. -

You're wrong. The Mormons and Catholics and Southern Baptists have done everything in their power to stop us from doing what we want in the privacy of our own bedroom. Until very recently, what we do was illegal just about everywhere.
Yes, we do get in people's faces. We do that because we want to show everyone how many of us there are and that we aren't going to take the abuse any longer. Believe me, you haven't heard the last of us. -
Manhattan Buckeye"we aren't going to take the abuse any longer. "
What abuse have you ever faced? If anything folks I know bend over backwards to accommodate gays since they don't want to appear "homophobic". I've seen it with my father-in-law in restaurants and other public accommodations, again what do you want, a cookie?
So you're gay, what you do in the bedroom is completely irrelevant in most people's lives. -
FairwoodKingI almost got fired from a job because I'm gay. There are a lot of people who stick their noses in our business. One of the reasons I moved to Seattle was to get away from this bullshit.

Manhattan Buckeye"I almost got fired from a job because I'm gay. "
How does one almost get fired from a job because you're gay? That doesn't make any sense. Were you discriminated against, not discriminated against, or "almost" discriminated against? -

??? I'm not sure you answered but thank you for trying.FairwoodKing;819041 wrote:Good question. It's likely that a lot of voters who voted in favor of the all-but-marriage referendum a couple of years ago in Washington are tolerant of us but not necessarily accepting. In other words, they thought they should not deprive gays of their legal rights, but they wouldn't especially want their son or daughter to be gay or lesbian. On the other hand, many of today's young people are both tolerant and accepting because they almost all have gay friends and they understand that we gays are really not much different from anyone else.
Here's what I got. Someone is tolerant but not accepting if they vote for gay rights other than gay marriage. ???
Someone is tolerant and accepting if they all have friends that are gay. ??? I think I'm more confused now.
I was really looking to see if you thought tolerance was the same thing as acceptance. Since you gave two examples I'm going to guess your answer is no, they are not the same thing. -

Well, maybe we should make ALL drug's and using them legal also, since church's preach against that. Maybe we should do away with DUI's, since church's preach against that. I mean, we dont wan to discriminate, right? Drugies, dealers and drunks all have rights also, right? They should be free to do whatever they want, right? Churches have no bearing on what is legal and illeagal in this country, politicans do. How has the church "done everything in their power" to keep you from doing what you do?
If there was a homo rally in my hometown, and I got "up in people's faces" about how I feel about homosexuality, I would prolly get arrested for some "hate crime". But, its ok for you to do it? Id say that America is pretty tolerant AND accepting of how you people want to live your life now. You are allowed to have your own "olympic" games, parades, rallies. But, your rights are infringed because you cant get married? We could be like the Middle East, and kill all of you! Id say be happy with what you have. -

One spends an inordinate amount of work time jabbering about one's cause as opposed to working. When their job is threatened due to things not getting done, it's "because they're gay". -

Stop it! Your just being abusive now!! -

When did a Mormon, Catholic, Southern Baptist, or anyone else stop you from doing anything in your bedroom? How do they even know what you are doing in your bedroom? -

Because, instead of just living the American dream, of freedom, they "get all up in peoples face's" so that everyone knows what they are, and what they do. Then they get pissy when someone does not feel comfortable around them, or does not share their views. They are the oppressed and victimized ones. Dur! -
FairwoodKingI lived in Texas for a while. Every time I had sex with a boyfriend, I was breaking the law. If the police had found out about it, they would have thrown me in jail.
Let’s take a different example. Until fairly recently, it was illegal throughout the U.S. for straight people of different races to get married. Ultimately giving them the right to marry didn’t take anyone else’s rights away.
The one thing that has to be made clearly understood is that giving gays and lesbians the right to marry or the right to join the military doesn’t hurt anyone else. We believe in equal human rights for everyone. We totally oppose hate crimes no matter whom they are directed against. -
Sageif ur against ***** marriage dont get married to one.

That's odd because every time we're in Dallas (which last time I checked was in Texas), we go here:
http://luckysdallas.com/
which is one of the gayest establishments one will every visit - and I've seen cops in there.
No one was going to throw you in jail because no one cares what you do. You're just being a self-centered narcissist. Stop the victimization grandstanding, you, nor any other person is that important. -

You're an idiot. Yes, people did care what I did. The reason the law was finally ruled unconstitutional was because two gay guys were arrested and took it all the way to the Texas Supreme Court.
I am no longer sexually active, so what I do is not for myself. I'm fighting for the rights of other gay people and I continue to do so. -
Manhattan Buckeye"You're an idiot. Yes, people did care what I did."
No they don't, you just think they do. Dallas is one of the most gay-friendly cities in the U.S. -
Manhattan BuckeyeMore on Dallas, even if the article is a bit old:
http://blogs.wsj.com/informedreader/2007/05/17/dallas-where-jrs-is-now-a-gay-bar/
One of my closest friends lives off Fitzhugh and you can throw a softball from his house to Zippers - a practically all-male establishment with gay strippers. -
FairwoodKingI lived in Dallas not so many years ago. Believe me, it was not gay friendly.

I don't believe you. My father-in-law lives with his gay partner in Dallas. We visit them each year, we hang out with their gay friends, there are zero problems with being gay in Dallas.
It sounds like your problem has less to do with being gay, and more to do with your victimization psychosis. -
ThinthickbigredMy question is this ... The seperation of church and state ... Why doesnt this apply to this topic???? The reason is simple Its taxes and Insurance companies that dont want gay marriage ..They dont want partners being allowed insurance benifits .. A break on death taxes etc ... Sure the far right wing Nazi's "FOX" is going to oppose gay marriage because they play the morality police .. Just my opinion ... I say if two men want to marry or woman fine if they want to go to mayors court and marry fine .. If they find a church that accepts gay marriage I ask how can the state intervene? Its not constitutional....Freedom of religion is a basic American right ..This whole issue is a matter of taxes and insurance matters.. Think about it ... The death taxes are outragious .. They take soo much from the deceast .as it is ..If you are a spouse the government cannot rape you nearly as bad ..Companies dont want people to be able to put partners on the insurance ..Its all about money .. I dont want gays to be able to change church doctrin in any church ... If you are gay and you have a tolerant or sympothetic church more power to you ..if they will marry you fine ..This is still America they say ..
-
ThinthickbigredListening to you guys I can tell some of you are not too receptive Fairwoods point of view ...Only he really knows what it feels like to be discriminated against from his standing .... We have all been prejudiced against ... 50 years ago could they have imagined Obama as president?
Ive never seen a gay throw his views or stuff in my face ... Alot of gays are in the closet because of general society and the way we all act ...I think we should be sympothetic to Fairwood . At the same time Im not a politically correct person .. Look if a guy comes from the ghetto and or the streets alot of homophobic phrases are in alot of guys vocabularies ..Its like Eminem and stuff he sings about and some of the not so gay friendly words he uses ...From what he says he has gay friends and he doesnt hate gays .. I believe him ... The NBA players that got caught and fined for using gay slurs Kobe at a ref and Noah from Chicago calling a fan a F#g ..The one thing I dont want to see people do is appologise for something they just happen to get caught saying ..Just own it accept it and move on ..Dont be a phony ..I think walls be be broke down if we are open and honest about our views ..no matter how harsh they may seem to others ...No human is perfect ..Atleast that is what I have become to believe . -

If you and yours like Dallas, so be it. But I had a miserable time there and I will never live there again.
