No, but saying it and having a history of being a general idiot does.

Nothing gross about this IMHO but I have been wrong before.

Since CCrunner is the one you're talking about, I'll say... touché.

It should remain a state issue -- if the government insists on getting involved. I say this even though Ohio is not progressive in this area, and I'm in favor of that changing.

I just went from being completely non-committal on the issue to solidly in favor. ;)

Now, if only more than 0.0003% of lesbians actually looked like that, the world would indeed be a cool place.

I know a lot of lesbians and some of them are very attractive. You'd be surprised.

There were a ton of hot lesbians in Chicago this weekend. Of course, there were also a ton of unattractive lesbians as well.

So do I. Some are, but as luck would have it, most aren't...at least not in the ballpark of the photos above.

At any rate, I think within 20 years gay marriage will happen in all states and the federal government. I just hope I'm still alive to see it.
  • I Wear Pants
I think it'll be a little bit quicker than that. It should be anyway.

You're right, it should be. But you have to remember that it was just a few years ago that homosexual behavior was illegal in Texas. If the state supreme court hadn't shot it down, it still would be. You also have to remember that many states have it in their state's constitution that same-sex marriage is banned. It's going to take a while to undo all this mess.

I highly doubt it. The only way this happens is if 5 justices on the Supreme Court by fiat order the remaining states to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. 24 states currently ban same sex marriage in their state constitutions and the federal government does not recognize it. Only six states currently allow it.

In 20yrs the feds will have a big problem dealing with the immense amount of debt they accumulated and how to fulfill their medicare and social security obligations. The pitch forks will be out.
  • I Wear Pants
Exactly why I think it can/should happen quicker. So we don't have to waste time debating things that are obvious and we can focus on actual problems.
  • BGFalcons82
Forks are coming out sooner than that, major.

Back to the disdain for Texas, it's their state, their will and their law. The feds got nothin to do with it. If you are gay and desire a same sex partner, you've got 6 states to pick from. If you wanna live in Texas, then you're shit outta luck.
  • I Wear Pants
That's a pretty terrible logic strain you've got going there.

Would be the same as "if you're black/a woman and want to own property/vote/whatever you've got six states to pick from".

We should not allow bigotry simply because it's "their state, their will, and their law".

And it bears reinforcing that no legalization of gay marriage proposal has ever had anything in it that would force a church to perform or recognize a gay marriage if they are opposed to them. However, there are zero arguments for not allowing marriages in the legal sense of the word.

It's a state's issue, IWP. Pure and simple. If you don't like the rules of that state, then DON'T MOVE THERE. Pretty simple if you ask me. Ditto for taxes, for example. If you don't like paying confiscatory tax rates in NYC for example, you have the FREEDOM to move to another city. Or do you believe that all city and tax rates should be equal across the entire 57 states?

Your woman/ black example is false equivalence.

This is a red herring. Being a black women is not immoral and is not considered so by nearly all Americans. 10's of millions believe homosexuality to be immoral. If they don't want their state to sanction what they believe to be an immoral activity if your not a resident of that state who cares. I could care less New York is legalizing gay marriage. I don't live there.

I've been reading that Cuomo pushed so hard for this to set himself up as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination in 2016

We should legalize gay marriage and give them whatever else they want....Then maybe the gay community can turn their attention to the real issues plaguing this country, since they seem to be the only ones that get shit done!

The states elect the president. Considering 24 of them have within their state constitutions bans on same sex marriage and only 6 legally allow it, this makes no political sense at all. If he were to trumpet this as his signature issue he would be toast. What are you reading?
  • Ty Webb
Did you notice were I said the Democratic Nomination?

I said nothing of the national picture...I think our best chance in 2016 lies in Timmy Kaine

He would not get the Democrat nomination either with that arrow in his quiver. Democrats know the states elect the president. The odds would not be in their favor. Why do you think Obama has not come out publicly in support of same sex marriage? He is not stupid.
