Now, I was simply saying that the 700 Club is the most far right "news" show on television. Fox has nothing on them in regards to leaning to the right. Fox is not nearly as right as many make them out to be, just as I believe some of the other networks aren't nearly as left as they're said to be.Robertson and the late Christian conservative televangelist Jerry Falwell created a stir in 2007 when they said the 9/11 attacks were God's punishment for loose U.S. morals.
People "who have tried to secularize America, I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen,'" Falwell said on the "700 Club," which is the Christian network's flagship news talk show.

"Well, I totally concur," Robertson said in response.
And the cause of Hurricane Katrina's devastation in 2005? God's anger over abortion, Robertson said in the aftermath.
"We have killed over 40 million unborn babies in America. … Some of the attacks that are coming against us either by terrorists or now by natural disaster, could they be connected in some way?" -

areyoukiddingmeWow, it sounds like he went off on a junior high rant or something.
As a minister, and a fairly conservative one at that, may I ask a serious question? Again, not trying to anger anyone, but seriously wondering, why is it wrong for "right-wing" Christians to preach morals?
I get it that it is terrible to see someone preach "be faithful to your spouse, etc." and then be a hypocrite; however, we all make mistakes and we all do wrong/sin/whatever you want to call it. But honestly, what is wrong with encouraging others to live by good, meaningful morals? To love your neighbor as yourself, not to steal, murder, cheat, etc (basically the 10 commandment type of stuff). Or, is it that you just hate hearing others tell you or others how to live?
I can see why people don't want someone else to tell them how to live and rightfully so, but someone, somewhere has to start stepping up and teaching people something before this world becomes even more of a immoral society than it already is. -

Thinthickbigred@areyoukiddingme . I think it is fine to be a good example . Be there to council people if they seek it ,most definitly . i know there are a whole bunch of very good religious leaders of many different faiths, I also know with the non taxation of the church that there are alot of crooks out there as well . I also dont like FOX news people preaching to me . I dont want people on the NBC TODAY show to editorialise either when doing a interview . I find it insulting . Good questions should always be asked ,but when you give a smirk or an attitude as an interviewer ,you show bias. Thank god for ESPN . You sir seem to me to get your point across in a positive and respectful manner ... I admit I dont always have that same quality or patience.

I personally cannot STAND "Reverend" Robertson. I LOVE the song Capitol Steps did on him: http://www.capsteps.com/sounds/robertson.mp3
I'm not saying the song is totally accurate, but much of what he does and stands for is the antithesis of "speaking the truth in love."

You can find a lot, but personally, I think he's a nut. The last clip is PARTICULARLY upsetting to me as I work around "ghetto kids" all the time, and many of them are just fine. They already are good citizens.
There are three "preachers" who, over the last 10 years, had a considerable voice in the American public, but instead of using that voice to spread the news of God's love, they've used it to further what I would say is often an unconstitutional political agenda. Of the three (Robertson, Falwell, and Dobson), I'd say Robertson has been the most harmful to the mission of those who have a love for the God of the Bible.
* To forgo some misunderstanding, I do think that these gentlemen all have some good things to say from time to time, particularly when discussing how we should personally live our own lives (for a reference to Robertson's examples, see his reply to a mother of a gay son and his interview with "Head" of Korn).
Indeed. I think the public is tired of the partisan slants, and network news, being a "make money" entity at the end of the day, will bend accordingly.I Wear Pants;613531 wrote:He said it was "what happened when people make a deal with the Devil."

I don't think it's good that the news will simply bend to the whims of the public, but I think it's true, currently.
Indeed. It's starting to look that way.CenterBHSFan;613550 wrote:I don't know about anybody else, but personally, I think thickthin has officially replaced Gibby!

areyoukiddingmeThinthickbigred, I know where you are coming from about certain channels leaning one way over the other; however, and again, I ask respectfully, why not just watch CNN then?
There are channels, as a minister and as a Christian, that I can't stand, and there are shows that absolutely insult my faith. Therefore, I "choose" not to watch them. I don't complain about them. I find it more important to teach the truth (IN LOVE) and live it as an example the best I can and pray that my congregation develops their own thoughts about tv programming, morality, etc. and let them choose if it is healthy for their heart and mind or not.
O'TRAP - unfortunately, for religion, Christianity, or mankind, there will always be people like Robertson, etc. who exhibit a very "questionable" way of representing their faith. For instance, I honestly admired Jerry Falwell. I knew him personally (not very well, but we had met and talked a few times). His faith was genuine. He was honestly a man after God's own heart. Does that mean I agree with everything he said, or did? By NO MEANS! He made mistakes and he often admitted them after he would say something, etc.
The same goes for me...I hope I am judged by my intentions and not by the way I often speak before thinking. That's why I am patient with others and give them the benefit of the doubt. My Bible teaches that we shouldn't look at the speck of sawdust in someone else's eye and neglect the "log" in our own. -

Make no mistake, aykm, I do admire some part of all those men, as I tried to mention in that post. Primarily, it is when they start talking politics that I get agitated.
Hell, Robertson's advice to the woman with a homosexual son was for her to express to him that it was indeed something they believe with certainty is wrong, but that they love him anyway (and then, he encouraged her to follow through with loving him). Honestly, I think that's good advice. It promotes honesty (letting the son know where she stands/not hiding her feelings from him), but ALSO promotes the attitude that we are to love all people, regardless of what they do.
I've met Falwell as well (RIP), and he was one of the most giving individuals I've ever met ... not in the sense that he had a ton to give, but that there was nothing in his possession that he would refuse to part with for others.
Perhaps my words on Robertson were harsh, but I see an almost cognitive dissonance when it comes to his personal counsel and his political ideology. He goes from a promoter of love and understanding to a promoter of certain policies based on a belief that exhibits so little understanding and benevolence. We're all fallen, but it seems like he places certain sins on such a pedestal as to consider them "extra evil" and he speaks of those entrenched in them in such a way that it comes across as hateful. I don't believe he is truly a hateful person, and I don't think he means to sound that way (in his mind, it probably makes sense and is benevolent), but I think that him using his prominent place in the public square as a political platform has been a detriment to the Christian faith over the years, as Christians attempting to tell others about the wonderful change that has taken place in their lives are oft dismissed outright because they are connected to someone who makes such statements.
I don't know if you remember the show Trading Spouses, but there was an episode with a woman named Marguerite Perrin, a self proclaimed "God warrior." Here's the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOpva_iit-8
A friend of mine, a non-believer, and I had a discussion about it after it went all over the TV. He admitted that when he first meets Christians, he often associates them with people like this, simply because these are the ones you can't help but see. He knows they don't act like this, and he knows most aren't like this outwardly, but he sometimes wonders if this goes on in believers' minds.
Now, obviously, there is something intensely wrong with this woman, and I'm not equating her to Pat. However, some of the statements Pat has made have had a similar effect. -

Thinthickbigredgood posts^^^^^^^ We are all sinners . I think some religious leaders can use there influence to teach kindeness for our fellow man , not speak of assasination's and political survival .. they just dont go hand in hand .. Its perversion The Taliban does this and so do factions of christian leaders ..its tit for tat .. I dont know what Mr Robertsons true intentions are when speaking in a public forum . Is it at times to get a political point across? Should that be his cause ? When he speaks in terms of what happened in New Orleans and Haiti as god being un happy with us ,is that like the end times thing he is refrencing?
