Don't Ask, Don't Tell

areyoukiddingmeFairwoodking,
Maybe I should re-phrase it. Not EVERY gay person got kicked out because they wanted to. I'm sure there are some who fall into the category of telling someone they were gay and then were kicked out. However, I don't know why anyone would offer that information out. You can be gay, live gay, etc. but if you don't say the words "I'm gay" you wouldn't have been kicked out. Even if it were 100% obvious you were gay. However, once you say it, then you are going out.
I am NOT making up any story. I'm sure if you spoke to many chaplains they'd tell you the same thing. The top two things people do in the military to get kicked out are to say they are gay and to "sleep walk/wet the bed." The second would show there is some sort of psychological issue and is a sure way to lead to a medical discharge.
I have no reason to lie about such things.
In fact, it used to be a joke that chaplains would use, that if a person claimed they were gay, the chaplain would make them prove it by kissing another man or putting an announcement in their hometown newspaper. If they were willing to do that, they could be processed out. The reason why it was such a joke was because you'd be surprised at the number of people who came claiming they were gay when it was time to deploy. -

Very funny but yet so true. My friends in the military all said the same thing, you'd be surprised how many people claimed to be gay right before deployment to Iraq/Afghanistan. -
ThinthickbigredI never really thought about it but it does make sense that people would use this to try and get out of deployment.
I do believe that a small % of gays probably wanted to out themselves to make a political statement ,and they are the ones that really make the news, because it is there cause. In any case it is interesting that people cant use that excuse anymore . This is a good learning lesson for me because we have an open gay with his experiance and we have a chaplin with his experiance. I believe niether party is trying to be misleading .. Sometimes you learn more by listening rather than talking -

But the republicans want to spend millions of dollars impeaching Clinton over an affair ...He had the economy all the way in the black until that disaster got into office and used our military for his personnal vendetta against Sadaam for him going after his father ...sick man King Bush should have been thrown out ... I cant stand the morrally correct right wing they make me sick
Wow, you couldn't hold more contempt for someone (Bush) if he had killed your mother.
1. Bush was not my favorite guy in the world.
2. It has been shown over and over again on this politics forums that by both Ds and Rs and intelligence, as well as our allies, believed that Iraq had WMDs. Your biased view might not let you see that, but its true, sorry.
3. If you want to get technical, the economy was doing fine under Bush as well until his last year or so of office, he made many MANY mistakes, but lets not act like the Ds that had just took over Congress had nothing to do with the sudden change in economy reality.
4. Like the "morally correct right wing" is any different than the elite high and mighty left wingers who feel they are smarter than those "Bible belt red neck republicans". See, anyone can throw around stupid rhetoric. -
areyoukiddingmeI have just never understood why anyone would complain about people wanting a more moral country. This isn't about gays, etc. but overall.
As for Thick's previous comment....I agree with FairwoodKing that there are obvious gays who didn't want kicked out, but like I said, whether it is "right" or "wrong" why did they open their mouth and say they were gay?
For those who were "kicked" out and want back in, let them come back in and serve our country. We need people who WANT to be there! -
pmoney25I have zero military background/experience but do you think that there were straight people who claimed to be gay in order to get out of service just like some are suggesting that some gays did this to not have to go over to Iraq?
Just an honest question for those with military background. -

Oh absolutely, which is why our resident chaplain up there mentioned some of their "tests". -
FairwoodKingjmog;611136 wrote:That is hilariously ironic coming from you. Nearly every "story" you give is heresay, no links, and stretched to try to prove something.
Everything I post is the truth. I live in the gay world so I know what it's all about. You don't live in the gay world so you don't know. -

Everything you post is truth, give me a break, you always use anecdotal stories with no links or proof of anything. You sensationalize most of them to try to prove your point. This is pretty common knowledge on any thread that has to do with homosexuality.
Don't tell me I don't "live" in the gay world, I might know more than you think. You know nothing about me. -

Sorry, I just lol'ed. -
I Wear PantsI mean, I support gay rights and the repeal of DADT. But FairwoodKing saying anything about objectivity and heresay is hilarious.

Yes, everyone in the gay community is exactly the same with not an ounce of diversity of thought.
Your comment is far more condescending than that of the worst homophobe. -

Yes and it happens probably more than you think. Even just to get out of the military period. People do a lot of stuff to get out of deployment. Even to the extremes of hurting themselves. -

most of us use steriotype comments from time to time ..I dont like the far laeft San Fransico crowd either . I am more of a middle grounder like I think 90% of the country is but 5% of the far right and 5% of the far left seem to have the biggest voices in the mainstream media and radio media .jmog;611280 wrote:Wow, you couldn't hold more contempt for someone (Bush) if he had killed your mother.

ThinthickbigredWho was it that was either a politician or a religious leader that was a staunch conservitive who was outed for being gay ? I cant remember his name . I think his tune surely changed though ...
I personnally have friends that are gay and are also married and have kids . One guy in particular was my best friend in HS he is in the Air Force and in the closet . He doesnt even know this . I am 95% sure he atleast had a thing with another guy while in HS ,I found this out from another very good female friend who was told by the other party . These people are very credible people to me and I believe this .. It doesnt change not 1% how I feel about my old friend ,and I will never bring it up to him . If he ever decided to share this with me it wouldnt matter one little bit. .
On another note I think Fairwood is sensitive to this matter ,and he may have had to deal with alot of bullcrap that nobody deserves ..Dont know only he does . I think he can teach us things we may have not been aware of ,things we all take for granted . .. Almost every single human being on this planet is prejudice in some way or another . This does not mean that you are a racist or some hate monger ,it may just mean you dont truely have an understanding of a group of people. -

Probably the single greatest post in the history of the oc politics board. or any board, for that matter. -

you know what man ..Atleast he has the guts to speak out ...the far right nazi movement is a disease we need to rid this country of ... Do something positive to contribute to anything before you make jokes -
I Wear PantsFar right Nazi movement? What?
And don't you realize the irony of saying some group of people are Nazi's, and then saying we need to "get rid of" them? -

Lol...keep spewing the rhetoric it makes you look retarded. -
O-Trap
Umm ... you don't KNOW cbus, do you? He's probably one of the more left-leaning posters ON here (no disrespect, cbus).Thinthickbigred;613247 wrote:you know what man ..Atleast he has the guts to speak out ...the far right nazi movement is a disease we need to rid this country of ... I didn't notice that, but it's actually pretty funny, isn't it?I Wear Pants;613279 wrote:Far right Nazi movement? What?

Nothing like someone who wants to "get rid of" an entire demographic to lead the crusade against a group whose greatest historical crime was to try to get rid of an entire demographic.
Purely out of curiosity, I'd like to hear how "Republican" equals "Nazi." I'm no Republican, but on its face, that statement is laughable and rather discrediting.
jmog;613351 wrote:Lol...keep spewing the rhetoric it makes you look retarded.
Nah. Just makes him look uninformed. He just posted about people who are "prejudice" [sic]. The problem isn't ignorance. The problem is WILLFUL ignorance, and based on his statements here, it seems that (at least in the political arena) he's being willfully ignorant, which will only perpetuate problems. -
I Wear PantsI mean, I'm probably one of the more left leaning posters here. But calling people who are not Nazis (Republicans are not Nazis no matter how much I sometimes disagree with them because well, they aren't Nazis) Nazis basically removes any argument you actually had.

ThinthickbigredI didnt know far right was a group .... Yep I do spit rhetoric I know ...I am half serious naturally I dont think people on here want to send anybody to the gas chambers ... About rhetoric though ..Fox news media is the most slanted right wing spewing garbage on TV ... Dont people get sick of this or that person in the media perfessing that they grew up in a religious house or using religious anikdotes in commentary . Its just stupid to me .I am tired of right wing bible beaters in the media ..I dont like far left wing dogma either .. if you want to call the far left wing comunists I get that too .. as I do with the far right wing nazi movement ..... I only say nazi to offend the far right people on this site ..... Which I hope I have achieved because I cant stand the far right hypocrits ,who think they are on morrally higher ground than the rest of us ...

And Cbus is not far right. There's not very many people on this board that I would even classify as far right. I'd say the majority of the posters in the politics forum do lean right but there are very few who are very far right.
Someone disagreeing with you (or me) doesn't make them crazy or malintented or wrong, they have a different opinion as for how things are/could/should be. -
ThinthickbigredI am not calling republicans nazi's either ...just your fringe eliments ... Is it right for people like Limbaugh to call somebody a general who is just a mayor ... the right use words that dont fit to get theyre anger across .. i support there right to do so ,as I will do the same ... Know when I am truely serious

You know , Id rather not rip religious leaders who are by core good people even though some of the comments that they make ,dont add up to me . Is it true that Pat Robertson said that Haiti was being punished by god after the earthquake? they have alot of practicing voodoo on the island ,i believe I heard something of that nature but cannot quote
