FairwoodKingDespite your dumb-ass comments, we gays are here, we are not going anywhere, and we WILL win our rights. You heard it first from me.

Art ModellNext thing you know there'll be a quota on hiring gays into the work place just like minorities and women. Then there'll be a rule in the NFL that you'll have to interview a gay when you're hiring a coach.

I'm still waiting to hear what right you are denied... -

For a starter, in most states the right to marry, in some states the right to adopt, and everywhere in the U.S. the right to join the military. -

1. You have the same rights to marry as I do. You can marry someone of the opposite sex, just as everyone else can. Now, is this a technicality? Sure, however you technically have the exact same rights to marry as I do. Personally I'm all for civil unions as I have expressed numerous times on this thread as long as churches aren't forced (by law or civil suits) to perform gay marriages. It should be up to the specific church.
2. Unless you live in Florida, you are lying through your teeth. Florida is the ONLY state that gay adoption is illegal. Not "some", just one.
3. Gays are not banned from joining the military. You are stretching the truth. Sure, you currently are in a "don't tell" mode, but you are not banned from joining. We all know this is changing. -

You're an idiot.
1. Gays don't want to marry someone of the opposite sex. We want to marry someone of our own gender. In most states, we are denied this opportunity.
2. It was just this past November that the people of Arkansas voted to deny gays the right to adopt children. You don't know what you are talking about.
3. You know as well as I do that gays and lesbians are not free to disclose their sexual orientation if they want to be in the military. If countries like Canada can allow non-closeted gays to be in the military, why can't the U.S. with our supposed freedoms do it? -
Art Modell1. If two people of the same sex wants to form a bond, it should never be considered a marriage.
2. Gays and lesbos should never be allowed to adopt. Just isnt right.
3. Gays should be allowed in the military. Put em on the front line!!! -

1. Just because they don't want to, doesn't mean their rights are any different than a heterosexuals.
2. I'm sorry the interwebs didn't say that. The site went state by state and listed what the current laws said. If some law passed but is not in effect yet, it would not have mentioned it as it only listed current laws.
3. Like I said, they are allowed to be in the military currently and we both know that the restriction of being "open" is changing and changing soon.
Trust me, I agree with your stances on 2 of the 3 items above. My personal beliefs on homosexuality don't agree with it in any way, and don't agree with gay marriage. However, my personal beliefs don't affect what I believe the country should do. Homosexuals should be allowed to have "civil unions" as long as churches aren't forced to perform them.
Personally, I believe homosexuals should be allowed to join the military openly, and we both know that is changing.
I can not currently (who knows, I might change someday) agree with the adoption thing though. However, that is the one case where the law is currently much more in favor for homosexuals than the other 2 points as 49 (maybe only 48 according to you) states already allow it.
As long as you are not calling for homosexuals to be added to affirmative action, hate crime legislation, discriminated classes, etc then we are on the same page. -

Our right to be in the military was denied to us yet again. If I could afford it, I would move to Canada. -

No offense, but it was 56-43...unfortunately for the homosexuals the party who they believe to be on their "side" still had a couple votes against it too.
However, we both know this was not a vote on ban on gays in the military, the democrats tried to sneak this into a defense spending bill in hopes the Rs would never vote down a defense bill. The Ds attempt to backdoor the Constitution failed.
I agree the ban should be lifted, but the way the Ds tried to do it was wrong. -
FairwoodKingI agree that the Dems botched this. It is still disconcerting that every fucking Repub voted against it.

Should have waited till the Defense Department does their review.
I'm for repealing it as it makes no sense to me.
But for R's, like Snow and McCain, they stressed the need to wait for the review. -

But no one has "a right to be in the military." Provided you meet the minimum qualifications you may or may not be accepted into the military for a variety of reasons. It's NOT a "right" to anyone.
Also gays already serve in the military and have for decades. What gays and lesbians are being denied is the ability to freely and openly admit their homosexuality. -

They should be allowed to openly serve in the military. And of course everyone means if they meet the minimum qualifications (which by the way are not very high for most branches).believer;492627 wrote:OK.....first as a conservative I am not necessarily opposed to gays in the military.

Do you know that certain types of heterosexual conduct have been grounds for disciplinary action by the military, including dishonorable discharge? The military has never been subject to civilian rights or law. The code of military justice has always been that of maintaining good order and discipline. Sexual conduct of any kind or nature that is deemed to bring discredit or disorder upon the armed forces is grounds for disciplinary action. -
I Wear PantsYeah but no one has ever been kicked out of the military for saying they like women.

Here is what you don't understand. You have a man yelling in your face preaching honor and loyalty to your country. Sacrifice your own life for your fellow soldiers and countrymen. Then you find out he is having an adulterous affair with the supply clerk. Loyalty? Honor? Kiss my ass.
Lets say that 10% of the armed forces would stumble over openly gay individuals serving in the military. Whether it is wrong or right is not the issue. The issue is does it affect the order an discipline in the ranks. That alone is what matters. That is what the military is struggling to determine. Obama to his credit is not forcing this political issue down the military's throat. He has been advised of the reality of the situation and from what I see is proceeding accordingly.
The idiots in congress attempting to use it as a tool in their political handbag by attaching amendments to defense spending bills have no shame. Lets here this issue out. Put it up for an up or down vote with no strings attached.
