I wouldn't call them tree huggers because they care about the Earth.jmog wrote: I'm still waiting on the tree huggers to get on here and explain this away.
I'd say for the vast majority of those people trying to make a change actually believe global warming is caused by man and truly poses a threat to humans. If I actually believed in the theory I'd be taking up the cause also. -
Mr. 300Eveyone wants clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. Name one person that doesn't want those things. The fringe left wants you believe they are the only ones that want these things sustained.

That is the problem with all movements. The fringe ruins the perception of the whole movement. Environmental groups do a number of great things throughout the world and support worthy causes. Most people only see those fringe lunatics on television though.
I'd say good things have come from the global warming movement though. It put the issue of conservation into the forefront and that is never a bad thing. -
BCSbunkWell first off I am skeptical of anthropogenic global warming. However global warming has been documented, whether it is man or simply a normal part of nature I am still holding out for more results of testing.
Here is the other side of the story though.

Also, I'm jaded enough when it concerns the government, that I think there is only one reason they've jumped on-board this whole thing.....and that's taxes.

BoatShoesWell...I guess I'll bite although I'm several Xmas Ale's deep. I don't see anything in that article that's that crazy...I mean, it still doesn't reveal that there's some great conspiracy between the the thousand's of scientists who think that anthropogenic warming is a genuine fact. I mean, what was hacked were some emails from one university. I mean...this doesn't close the door on the possibility on anthropogenic warming any more than some evidence that there might be anthropogenic warming closes the door that it is in fact happening.
Reasonable minds can disagree on this issue. -

That's why Gore and others of his ilk keep saying the "debate is over" then, right?BoatShoes wrote: Well...I guess I'll bite although I'm several Xmas Ale's deep. Stagnating Temperatures
Climatologists Baffled by Global Warming Time-Out
The Earth's average temperatures have stopped climbing since the beginning of the millennium, and it even looks as though global warming could come to a standstill this year.
Ironically, climate change appears to have stalled in the run-up to the upcoming world summit in the Danish capital, where thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, scientists, business leaders and environmental activists plan to negotiate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Billions of euros are at stake in the negotiations.Even though the temperature standstill probably has no effect on the long-term warming trend, it does raise doubts about the predictive value of climate models, and it is also a political issue. For months, climate change skeptics have been gloating over the findings on their Internet forums. This has prompted many a climatologist to treat the temperature data in public with a sense of shame, thereby damaging their own credibility.
"It cannot be denied that this is one of the hottest issues in the scientific community," says Jochem Marotzke, director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg. "We don't really know why this stagnation is taking place at this point."
Just a few weeks ago, Britain's Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research added more fuel to the fire with its latest calculations of global average temperatures. According to the Hadley figures, the world grew warmer by 0.07 degrees Celsius from 1999 to 2008 and not by the 0.2 degrees Celsius assumed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. And, say the British experts, when their figure is adjusted for two naturally occurring climate phenomena, El Niño and La Niña, the resulting temperature trend is reduced to 0.0 degrees Celsius -- in other words, a standstill. -

WriterbuckeyeAfter reading some of the comments in those e-mails, I'm more convinced that ever we've got nothing short of a conspiracy going on to maintain this hoax.
There are very pointed references in some of those exchanges about changing data to make it fit what they want or to help quiet skeptics by preventing more questions.
Reputable scientists DO NOT DO THIS.
If you're a reputable scientist, you let the data go where it goes and you reach your conclusions accordingly. You don't "adjust" data to meet a preconceived idea.
There is no defense for some of this if you claim to be a reputable scientist.
I do believe we are seeing the beginning of the end of the man-made global warming hoax. -

When science and politics mix, this is what you get. Man-made global warming is a huge hoax by global socialists designed solely to control free market capitalism and redistribute wealth....period....end of story.Writerbuckeye wrote:Reputable scientists DO NOT DO THIS.

These "scientists" tend to be government funded and when the government purse strings are controlled by the left, the "scientists" will play the game.
I don't know if it's the beginning of the end but it has certainly poked a huge political ozone hole in the man-made global warming myth.Writerbuckeye wrote:I do believe we are seeing the beginning of the end of the man-made global warming hoax. -
I Wear PantsEven if you don't think we're doing anything to the climate it'd be stupid to not get behind renewable energy and better protection of the environment. Mostly for two reasons. The first being that you'd have to be daft to not want clean air and water as well as healthy forests and wildlife, those are all just nice things. The second is that once you have a quality infrastructure of sustainable energy (good mix of wind, solar, possibly tide, nuclear, etc) it saves money.
-
tk421I'm all for renewable energy and cleaner air. I just don't want the government to pass some crappy bill that they say is going to help the environment when it's really just going to raise taxes and cost us more money. Plus, Al Gore is the biggest dumb ass hypocrite in the world. Having him as the face of environmentalism really turns people away from what is a good cause. Not to mention all the other "cool, hip" elitist Hollywood idiots who push green.
-
jmogExactly what tk421 said, I'm all for conservation, I drive a Ford Focus and not a gas guzzler. However, when the government tries to pass completely BS science on people because they believe the average American is too stupid to know any different (they are actually right here) and then try to pass things like Carbon Cap and Trade (a huge tax) on us as a power grap, its sickening to say the least.
-
prepnutAs I have stated before on another board and to family and friends, if you want to know the real truth about global warming ............follow the money. It now appears in the last 2 years that more and more scientists are coming out and saying that this global warming thing is not all it is cracked up to be. This recent hacking only reveals more evidence that this may well be the case.If Gore and his cronies can perpetuate this warming thoery they and a lot of others stand to reap fortunes off the american people. I'm all for conservation but we better be dang sure of what we are getting ourselves into. Threads are starting to unravel in this global warming thoery and that may well be why the high profile activists are pushing so hard to get bills passed before the whole thing comes crashing down and money is lost. Follow the MONEY,who stands to gain in all of this.

CenterBHSFanHow many times do I have to tell you people? It's all about the cows!!!
http://solveclimate.com/blog/20080131/japanese-patent-beano-cows-cut-methane-emissions
So what are we going to do with a billion and a half, 1,000 pound creatures belching and crepitating us into global warming?
Beano© for cows?
Junichi Takahashi, Ph.D., a Japanese scientist at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Hokkaido, Japan may have the answer, or at least part of the answer. Dr. Takahashi and friends have developed a food additive that, they say, reduces bovine global warming intestinal gas to negligible levels. -
