This Oil spill in the Gulf sounds like it could be an economic catstrophe

It can't be done. Try sticking something in a hose while the water is on. Now try doing it with the water pressured up to 15000 psi. -

Obama sends BP a 69 million bill …. What portion is your fault ………Obama?
BP should be responsible to pay some of the cost of the clean up and addition cost ensued.
But what portion of this bill and addition billing is related to the Failed Administration Incompetency to react, support the states and provide emerge help to the states to protect their own coastal area?
What aspect / percentage of the Federal Government Department Inspector failure to provide proper inspection was the cause of this problem?
Obama is great at placing blame but in this situation the Public Servant has to be accountable for partial lack of government supervision and response under his Administration.
Just think about this ………..Where do you think BP is going to do to recover this Billing.
1. Other Oil Companies will also start to increase pricing to add addition profit to protect for future problem. (BP will also increase pricing)
2. Cutting of employees to recover some of the money … More jobs lost
3. Cut wages to employee to recover … billing cost
4. Stop any expansion plans and programs in the US ….. More jobs lost
First things first Obama return the money: $2.89 million flowed to campaigns from BP-related PACs

ptown_trojans_1So, Belly, you want the taxpayer, ie you and me, to pay for the cleanup? Cause that is where the federal money will come from.
I'd rather have BP, who does make enough profits to not hurt them financially, to fully pay for the damage. -
j_crazyas big as they are, BP doesn't set the price of oil or gasoline, so they really are hamstrung on the profit margin thing. oil costs more or the same to extract as it did on 4/19. conversely the price of oil has dipped a little bit.

sleeperBP is sitting on 225 BILLION in total assets, with 67 billion in current assets.
They will be fine. -

I would too but whether we pay for it as taxpayers or pay for it as consumers at the pump, WE will eventually pay for it.ptown_trojans_1;381896 wrote:So, Belly, you want the taxpayer, ie you and me, to pay for the cleanup? Cause that is where the federal money will come from.

Obama failed to react and his Administration failure to protect our coast. Delay delay blame blame and more delay ......Obama wants some ass kicking ...Well I want Obama ass to be kicked also .... Some of you jumped on Bush ....Katrine was a natural act of nature unpredictable ..... Obama oil spill could have been prevented but his administration was taking kick back for improper reporting and inspections.....and the lobbing was feeding Obama political career.
If I was BP I would pay for some of the clean up but take Obama Administration to court for the delay of support, lack of response to the local area with equipment and engineering planning that increased the damage that BP incurred.
We pay our government a shit load of money to protect our country from all types of terrorist and in this case the terrorist came in the form of OIL…..
So what ass kick punishment does the Obama Administration recieve for a failure to do a job? -
IggyPride00These were the President's comments in an interview yesterday.
Would you want to be on the receiving end of that foot (private industry had best beware).
Finally, how do you feel about the President speaking so colorfully? Is it appropriate language from the oval office? Is this change we can believe in?
I am somewhat surprised he would be so blunt in a statement on record like that, but he is taking a beating on the BP thing so I guess he is trying to show some fire.

Belly35Does the Mexican President have the right to tell America / Az what laws should be .....NO
The Public Servant needs to do his job and not tell Corporation what to do. IMO this is leading down a path of taking over BP.
Obama need to handle his side of this issue and the media needs to report his failures, the Administration failures and heads needs to be rolling in our Goverment over this situation.
Blame Blame but that does not fix the problem -

How should the POTUS respond to this? It is no like he could call the Department of mile deep oil spills... Oh maybe ge should create one so you could have a problem with that as well.Belly35;382260 wrote:I said: BP should be responsible to pay some of the cost of the clean up and addition cost ensued.

I Wear PantsI see no problem with him talking that way.
It wasn't like he was out there dropping F-bombs and stuff. He said "ass". My rule of thumb is if I've heard my priest say it in a conversation it's cool. -

Good quote from that article:
President Obama's instigation of criminal investigations of BP at this juncture is classic diversion politics — and worse, it will engender bunker mentality at a time when collaboration and openness are most critical. BP's actions and inactions are reprehensible; it must be made to pay the billions upon billions of dollars that this spill will ultimately cost. But call out the phalanx of lawyers later — solve the crisis today. -

We bitch that the current guy is the same as the previous guy who was the same as one before that. I'm not going to bitch when someone breaks out of that a little. -
CenterBHSFanI'm not going to complain about President Obama's "kick some ass" comments.
I will, however, laugh at him. Oooops! I mean... at the comments. Yeah... -

In an interview I read with Politico the President has started attacking those people who claim more could have been done to prevent the oil spill. I have heard this defense from him a few times now, and we can expect to hear it alot more as he is going to begin a campaign to try and paint those who are critical of him as hypocrites.
Obama also talked about what he considers a key issue: the role of the federal government. “I will say that there is a debate that we’ve been having for a long time and we’re going to keep on having in this country about the proper role of government,” he said. “And I think that this crisis has been a good case study in how some people feel pretty contradictory about that role.
“Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying ‘do something’ are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much. Some of the same people who are saying the president needs to show leadership and solve this problem are some of the same folks who, just a few months ago, were saying, this guy is trying to engineer a takeover of our society through the federal government that is going to restrict our freedoms.”
There was some real irritation in his voice when he said: “And so — and this translates into very concrete terms, I think it’s fair to say, if six months ago, before this spill had happened, I had gone up to Congress and I had said we need to crack down a lot harder on oil companies. And we need to spend more money on technology to respond in case of a catastrophic spill. There are folks up there, who will not be named, who would have said this is classic, big-government over-regulation and wasteful spending.”

Manhattan BuckeyeI'm not sure the criticism of the POTUS stems from a notion that he isn't personally stopping the spill or didn't do anthing to prevent it, but rather the criticism is regarding his apparent aloofness (and in response to his aloofness made a silly comment, which IMO wasn't THAT big of a deal but some people think it was) and lack of leadership authority. It is almost as if he can't be bothered with handling the work that comes with being the chief executive of the most powerful nation. Bad things happen. Columbine happens. 9/11 happens. This happened. Clinton and Bush weren't singing Hey Jude with Paul McCartney in their times of crises.
The "left" can point fingers at critics as claiming that he's a socialist, or not a real American or whatever....the critics are simply pointing out that we elected one of the most inexperienced leaders ever. Carter governed Georgia. Reagan governed California. GHWB was Veep and ran the CIA. Clinton governed Arkansas. GWB governed Texas. Obama..............ran a good campaign against Hillary Clinton. The inexperience is showing. -

IggyPride00Henry Waxman’s war on Big Oil has begun.
The California Democrat, along with Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), will force top oil executives to defend or condemn industry practices and profits, according to series of pre-hearing questions obtained by POLITICO, foreshadowing an intense, made-for-TV hearing Tuesday that could create an iconic Washington moment for the petroleum industry.

IggyPride00White House: Obama ready to seize claims process
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_gulf_oil_spill_obamaPresident Barack Obama is poised to seize the handling of oil spill damage claims from BP, his chief spokesman said Tuesday, as Obama sought to reassure people he's up to the enormous challenge of helping them recover from the environmental disaster. He will outline his specific plans and expectations in a prime-time Oval Office speech.
The aim of wresting the claims-handling from the British petroleum giant, press secretary Robert Gibbs said, would be to make economically distressed individuals and businesses "whole." The claims processing problem is among several difficult issues that Obama planned to address directly in the talk to the nation.
How does everyone feel about the President "seizing" this process (and ultimately giving away the money of) a private (not government owned) company like this?
