How about an all-time Central district roster thread?
-
ksig489Biily Joe was a 2xChamp
Mark Lowe was a 2xChamp
Jon Starr was 3rd and a Champ
You can find all the LH history at www.lhwrestling.com -
WhatamunceIt's Hard to agrue Kasser at 103 but someone with the same type of High School credentials around that weight was Joey Bonaventura GHS ( 1,1,2) bumped up a weight to take on Hanson his senior year and lost in the Finals.
At 145 you could consider Jonny Vogel he won a championship at that weight and at 140 ( Q,6,1,1)
At 130 maybe Jason Amicon or possibly Alex Garcia. both state champs at that weight. -
ksig489Id say that 103-125, 130, and 189-285 at this point are locks the way I have them up top. 160 seems to be held down pretty well by Ciraky and if Demas wins it again this year he would likely be a lock as well.
So how about:
130 - Amicon, Garcia, Palivoda, Johnson, Enright (Id lean toward Johnson...3xFinalist with a title and beat Jordan in a stunner...at the Licking Heights invitational I might add)
140 - I still say Ramsey here is a lock to me...he was just brutal on the mat...I once scored a reversal on him at a camp and he took me in a corner and beat on me for 2 hours while the rest of the kids got to keep learning new stuff and wrestle live.
145 - Vogel, Duncan (not sure what Duncan did at state but I believe he was a 200 match winner in HS)
152 - Dong, Moore (refresh me on their 4 years each), Henderson was x/2/1/1
What weight did Allen wrestle? -
Varsityfan32cruiser, im just saying barlow was the man when I was in HS never saw fickell wrestle but barlow was pretty darn good I would atleast put him behind fickell
-
ksig489There have been a few Central heavies that would have beaten Barlowe, several who never even won the tournament. Fickell/Barlowe wouldnt have been a match...didnt Luke win his senior year on a :50 second pin?
Id put heavies like Lahr, Pullins (West Jeff), and Woodside (Fairfield Union) over Barlowe -
bravesmanI only go back to 1987, but I rank em like this:
1.) Fickell (D)
2.) Poehler (H) weighed 209, but 215 was not around then...
3.) Tate (LV)
4.) Brendan Barlow (WC)
-everybody else... -

Plus Fickell was wrestling in international (open).....tourneys while in HS and doing well in those.....ksig489 wrote: There have been a few Central heavies that would have beaten Barlowe, several who never even won the tournament. bravesman
He was in 1 Grand Prix held locally in St. Johns... he was 7th... beat the guy from France...Bam175 wrote:

Sensationalism at its finest... -
ksig489Wow...how did I forget about Poehler...he looked like the Ultimate Warrior.
Tate was a 2x Champ right? -
DuckmeSean Salmon 171? 4/2/1 i believe?
-
ksig489Salmon over Demas?
After the head kick by Rashad Evans...does Salmon even remember wrestling in high school? -
DuckmeLOL! this is true, i think it would atleast be a quality match.
-
Varsityfan32Demas is great, another state title (likely will happen) will just add to his amazing resume and another reason why he should be on this list
-
bushksig
yes he was a 2x champ and tech fall the kids instate finals and national finals -
Tony Meadmike gill was a excellent heavy and a real big strong heavy at that. on only 2 years experience he was state runner up for watkins in a very tuff div 1 (AAA at the time). he beat lahr 3x. fickell was one of the most athletic heavys i have ever witnessed, he set the tone for athletic heavys.
130 - Amicon, Garcia, Palivoda, Johnson, Enright (Id lean toward Johnson...3xFinalist with a title and beat Jordan in a stunner...at the Licking Heights invitational I might add)
i know aaron martin won at 135 and got 6th at 130 he won one of the tuffest weight classes i have ever witnessed at state at 135. he would not have had problems with garcia or amicon.
rob johnson on the other hand was one of the most complete mental and physical wrestlers i have seen. Jim Jordans only highschool loss. 3x finalist, the guy he lost to in the finals his junior year was the same guy he beat in the finals his senior year.
enright was a great wrestler too. in this group id say rob johnson, aaron martin and enright top 3. i am biased but i have wrestled around with amicon, garcia and martin. -
StackerJedd Moore- '05-Q (MT.V), '06-2nd@140 (MT.V), '07-1st@152 (M PL), '08-1st@152 (M PL) '05-'06 Div I, '07-'08 Div III
Jesse Dong- '05-Q (WN), '06-6th@125, '07-2nd@145, '08-1st@152 Div I -
alaahksig,
I wouldn't go as far as the WJ heavies. Barlow was an athletic and "wrestling" style hwt. Those two were not. -
alaahTo all WJ fans. Do not take that the wrong way They were winning hwts. Just not Barlow's caliber, but back to this thread it is a non issue at this point Fickell for heavy.
-
Bitterrunner-upThere are some weights that we'll never get consensus on, heavyweight isn't one of them. There have been some great heavyweights in Central Ohio over the years, but Fickell wasn't just better than the rest of them, I'm not sure any of them could have gone six minutes with Fickell. He was just that much better then any heavyweight...ever.
You can't go wrong with either Moore or Dong at 152, both were excellent and probably very close. Interestingly, they could have met at the Central District All Star Preview their senior seasons, but Dong was entered at 145 while Moore was up at 152. I know Dong is having a very nice career at Va Tech, but based just on high school, I think I'd go with Jedd Moore. -
ksig489I only listed on WJ heavy...athletic is one thing, but if Greg Lahr or Dan Pullins (who had to have been 350 when it was unlimited) got their hands on Barlowe they would have easily had a chance. Lahr was a flat out monster.

BuckSnortHypothetically speaking, let's say Heminger(Jr.) of Northmor goes 2,2,1,1...and goes 125 or 130 next year and then goes on to have an great career in college, could he make this list? he has been 2nd at 112 and 2nd at 119 behind Tessari and Stieber as a fresh/soph.
-
BuzzBomb285Cradle3... considering Johnson wrestled 126 should he be ranked at 125 instead of 130??? regardless i can see him behind Zimmer and Schlatter...but none of the others...
also he said that had to graduate from a central district school...did CP graduate from Graham???
also how about Alex Williams from Watkins Memorial at 215...he had two wins over Davis from Grandview Heights during his senior season (one at Hamilton Township and one at licking heights tourny) in which he took 4th in a loaded weight class...
come to think of it he lost to a dude from Big Walnut that year for 3rd (but beat him in the district semis)... -

if he did that i would think he would definatly be near the top of this list at 119...but he wont beat Hunter Stieber this year...
hopefully he can end up in a weightclass with out one of the monroeville studs in it next year...because he is for sure a special kid... -
hang_looseI think Lybarger and Andrews are rated kind of low at 140 lbs. I know both were 2x runnerups amd maybe 3x placers.
