DIII Archbold sectionals

fvwrestler2001I wasnt incenuating that size is the only factor. However, if you take any statistics class you know that the larger your population size the more true a rule of thumb would hold true. Bigger schools are usually better than smaller schools. Its obviously not a cut and dry, I was simply saying I thought the GMC did a nice job hanging with some schools that are a little bigger.
-
mervThe GMC coach's threw there weight around at the seeding meeting. They went in with numbers and got the seeds they wanted. But after all was said and done, the NWOAL wrestlers showed the coach's how the seeds should've went. Kern and Cowell not being seeded #1 was laughable. Oh well, just shows how smart the GMC coach's were.

I wasn't insinuating anything either - the GMC always has some nice wrestlers and although Ayersville had the team strength to stay in the top 5, it looks like Hicksville and Edgerton might have a larger impact at Districts and State. It may be awhile before Tinora returns to their recent success, but changing coaches 2 or 3 times hurt.fvwrestler2001 wrote: I wasnt incenuating that size is the only factor. Well, Cowell was obviously not seeded for a reason. That being, his coach decided to not seed him. Get some facts before you start ranting : )... thxmerv wrote: The GMC coach's threw there weight around at the seeding meeting. They went in with numbers and got the seeds they wanted. also i know kern was a state qualifier, but the edgerton kid is no slouch. i dont think that it is absurd for him to be seeded above kern. i think we would all agree it would be a close match and before the tournament they did have a common opponent in Miller of defiance. Miller beats edg kid by 2 and kern by 5, so I can see how the edg kid would get some votesWrestler88 wrote:

End results 1 2 3 4 just like seeding should have been. Kern scored on Miller. It's over let it be.fvwrestler2001 wrote:

Kern however was seeded second for a reason. I can’t think it was anything other than a show of power. When you have two wrestlers with losses, and no head to head meeting HOW do you rationalize seeding the elder, RETURNING CHAMPION, under a freshman?Wrestler88 wrote:

Is the freshman good? Oh yeah, very, no argument here.
My point is this: If your intent was to rub the coaches' nose in it, I have no problem with that, their grown men and can take it. But the message appeared to be “We know you’re the champion kid, but you’re gonna have to earn your title back, because we have a kid who is pretty good.” Not a lot of respect for a kid who deserved it… -
fvwrestler2001not everyone is out to "get" someone. maybe they thought this kid is bettter. should a freshman not get votes b/c he is a freshman if someone looks at results and says i truely think this kid might be slightly better.

I do have facts. Yes his coach decided not to challenge for a seed, after the GMC coach's voted the Hicksville kid #1. Why bother with seeds when you know your kid will tech. or pin his way through the tournament?Wrestler88 wrote:

usher460It would be interesting to see a dual meet between the individual league champs from the NWOAL and the GMC.
-
sabre34would be terrible domination by nwoal i'm afraid
-
Rolly67i only see the GMC winning about 3 matches
-
fvwrestler2001you guys are horrible
its like your proud your eighth grade kid cant beat up the little 4th grader on the playground
NWOAL schools are much larger and have more teams, of course they should win. -
texasbuckeye
I don't agree with this at all. Wrestling isn't always about how big your school is. The school that I wrestled for and coached at consistenly beats bigger schools. They still do to this day. It doesn't always matter how big your school is. Even the baseball and softball programs at this school take on bigger programs and beat them, it is possible.fvwrestler2001 wrote: you guys are horrible

Did you see the enrollment figures?
Paulding - 204
Delta - 166
Liberty Center - 159
Archbold - 157
Tinora - 137
Fairview - 132
Hicksville - 130
Montpelier - 127
Edgerton - 103
Ayersville - 92
Stryker - 63
If you were right Paulding should have killed everyone.
BTW Delta wrestled Edgerton and Paulding in a dual and beat both with ease with a lot of back up wrestlers, and Delta was only 6th at their league tournament.
Take a look at some of the NWOAL schools schedule and you will see why they are so tough. -
deuceOSU78Consider these enrollment figures:
Monroeville - 99
Troy Christian - 92
SMCC - 77
Maybe I'm not comparing apples to apples (SMCC/Troy=Christian=recruiting?), but size does not always matter. -
fvwrestler2001there is always the possibility of smaller schools beating larger schools one on one but if you are looking at a whole league thats like saying take the top 8 teams from d1 and place them against the top 8 teams in d3. of course d1 would win
im not disagreeing that the NWOAL is stronger but you are comparing yourself to an overall smaller league. -

So admitt that at seedingfvwrestler2001 wrote: there is always the possibility of smaller schools beating larger schools one on one but if you are looking at a whole league thats like saying take the top 8 teams from d1 and place them against the top 8 teams in d3. of course d1 would win

devik64It was stated on a earlier post that cowell did not get seeded for obvious reasons. I know in my opinion a 16 year old kid should not take the hit for what a group of grown men tried to pull off.

green-dRED43 is so right.
If all of you that say the NWOAL teams should win because they are bigger just adds to the point that the seeding for sectionals was wrong. -
yupitsmehmmm arent the four schools that wrestled at archbold the smaller schools of the nwoal? the nwoal may be bigger than gmc, but its fair and thats why there are divisions. as for seeding, let them keep screwing the kids. it works out in the end anyways and the coaches walking around after there kids get beat in the quarters and semi's, by our 2nd and 3rd place kids look pretty silly. not only are they not at the nwoals level, they wrestle a very, very weak schedule overall and it shows at sectionals. Having said all that, they absolutely have some studs in that league and i wish them well this weekend and hope both leagues represent our sectional well.

One of the problems that I think needs to be fixed is a standardized seeding criteria for all Sectionals and all Divisions. -
yupitsmeCon Alma, could you explain the criteria for me? i know just a little bit. When does "coaches vote" come into play?
-
Con_Almauhhhh, there isn't a defined criteria. It's different for each sectional. That's the problem. I know in the NE there's no Coaches' vote at all. It's based on predetermined accomplishments including State,District/Sectional champ/place/qualifier and record.
My point is that this process should be defined clearly and consistently for all Sectionals.
