As a coach for one of the "Fab Four" at 171... I wouldn't be surprised if what romulus says happens. Here's hoping we are hitting on all cylinders come Friday and Saturday.

You are quite right cruiser. "locks" was a bad choice of words. I must change it to "those are my heavy favorites". You are right to remind me of what can happen in this crazy sport.

Isn't it wonderful though! Anyone guy on any given Friday or Saturday can be a winner. who ever wants it more and pushes their bodies and selves to new and greater limits can be somebody in Ohio wrestling! God I love the sport of wrestling! It is a "true" athletes sport! Anyone who wrestles can play "any " sport and be good at it!

    4 champions
    4 runner-ups
    1 third
    2 fourths
2 that had to default their 5th place match because of the 5 match rule.

9 of the 11 district qualifiers return next year plus a 2009 district qualifier. Not bad in my opinion for sectionals. Districts will be much tougher of course. Watch out next year because Liberty will be much better.

Liberty is a tough team. They wrestle smart and stay in good position for 6 minutes.

Liberty is very Talented, but alot of that has to do with coaching. Lets be real hear marrinelli is a FREAK when it comes to coaching. and yes, i did use the word FREAK

LOL, You don't get kids to be "Smart " and "Stay in position" unless your coach is a freak!!!
    Marinelli is a great coach.

Newark gets out multiple wrestlers for the first time in over ten years, and 3 out for the first time in Lord knows how long. Two of them juniors. Not too bad for Jose Martinez's first year heading the program.

It was great to see Newark get three out. The last time they got three out was 2003. In 2002, they sent five. Looks like Coach Martinez has got the train on the tracks with a fairly young team.

I thought the advocate said 1999? But I guess that makes sense. The Miller brothers and Keck were all really good then.

Yeah, I don't know where The Advocate got their info. In 2002, Bishop, Rostofer, Pettit, Keck, and K. Inceoglu all qualified. In 2003 it was Keck, K. Inceoglu and Brunner. The '03 team was better, placing 5th at the Pickerington Sectional. In addition to the three qualifiers, five wrestlers placed 5th and three placed 6th. On a side note, that was the only Newark team to ever win the Licking County Invitational. I know all that might not seem like much, but three years prior, the JV and Jr. High Programs had been cut. That pretty much gutted the Program as a whole and forced it to completely reboot.

Congrats to the Newark boys and the Advocate. Mount Vernon put 8 wrestlers into the district. The Mount Vernon News had pics and an article on the DIII tourney in Utica, with a paragraph on at the end of the article (pg.9) naming the Yellow Jacket qualifiers. Mount Vernon has consistently been ignored by the Mount Vernon News, even though they always have a solid, well coached team. It's pretty sad when you have to go to the Dispatch to get results of your local team. Pathetic! Good Luck to the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets in the District tourney!

Mt. Vernon has been one of the premiere programs in Central Ohio for over a decade. It is too bad that they don't get the recognition they deserve from their hometown paper!
