    Two things...

#1) I get that this can get confusing. It has been discussed since the first year of the weight certification process.

#2) I think we all recognize that (at this point) this conversation has less to do with one wrestler than it does the entire weight cert. process.

D4S: I'm printing that post out and showing it to my wife! ...and she says I'm never right...

One last point: It is very important for coaches to pay attention to the weights of their kids during this weekend of wrestling. League championships, state duals, one last tournament, etc...

If a coach lets a 182 pounder wrestle up to 195, it's important to remember that a kid can only lose 1.5% of his body weight per week. For that event, for the that weigh-in, being below 186 or 187 is a must!

Or, as GregHines and the snuggly one pointed out, are people really looking in to this THAT much!?!?!?!

    E. WEIGHT LOSS PER WEEK
    1. A weight loss limit of 1.5% of the “Alpha” weight per week has been set. The projected earliest date to wrestle at Predicted Minimum Weight will be broken down into days. This date will be on the Alpha Master Roster printout.
    2. A wrestler will not be permitted, at any time, to wrestle in a weight class that would require him to lose more than 1.5%, per week, of his “Alpha” weight from the original date of assessment. *Coaches WILL exchange NWCA generated weigh-in forms to determine the weight class of the wrestlers for that competition. The official on site will verify that each coach has a copy of the opponent’s weigh-in form. Protests will be handled by the OHSAA. Officials are authorized to assess an unsportsmanlike pen- alty to a Head Coach who fails to comply with this rule

The key is what their "alpha" weight was.

So if you wrestle a match today and your a 106 pounder your weigh in wt is 110. Then on Saturday your weigh in would be 108. Aren't they forcing nearly every good size 106 to break the 1.5% per week by their own rules?

All kids have an alpha weight if they pass hydration and then get assessed. On that day, whatever that day is, no kid will be allowed to wrestle in a weight class that would require him (or her) to lose more than 1.5% in one week.

I think the goal is to not have the wide swings. That's the goal - as I read it - of the "Weight Loss Plan". Not to answer for "them" but my guess is "they" would want that 106 down to 106 and remain there. Just guessing.

The way I read the rule, and I am not an expert in any way, is that once your alpha weight is established, there is a straight line 1.5% per week from that moment. Imagine a straight line graph. The 1.5 % does not apply week to week. You can weigh in at 145 one week and 138 the next, as long as the 138 is not lower than the straight line graph.

In addition, the Q & A make clear that this determines the weight class a wrestler can wrestle in, not how much he can weigh.

No, because the 1.5% per week does no apply to actual weight, but what weight class you are allowed to wrestle in. Also, it does not apply week to week to your current weight, but in a straight line graph from your alpha weight.

It's amazing (and cool) to me how the topics being discussed in many threads have nothing to do with the original topic.....morph into something very different, then sometimes back again.

I will take the blame for taking this thread in a completely different direction. I tried to express that I was, however - in a kind of disclaimer.

This how I always understood the rule.

Otherwise, every coach would have to prove that every wrestler met this rule for every weigh in with original documentation before they could be put on a bracket at sectionals. If they miss it by .1 lbs, or don't have complete original documentation, then they are not entered. I don't want to sit through the 7 hour seeding meeting that has this requirement.

Which is why I thought we write down, copy, give to opposing coach, and keep the weigh-in sheet. Again, in sticking to the Weight Loss Plan (WLP) a wrestler will avoid the large or drastic swings.

A wrestler can wrestle a dual at the 152lbs weight class on Thursday and then wrestle a tournament on Saturday at 145, but he would have had to weigh 145.1 (maybe 145.2) on Thursday. By cutting weight this way, they are not weighing 150 on Thursday and then cutting to 145 by Saturday.

Again, I'm probaby the only one reading it that way, so I could be wrong.
