Dasales gave what 5 forfeits and only have a few kids who ever wrestled before so I think it would be a gimme for Whitehall.

2-0 end of first w/ bobby at 126, two very nice five point moves leads to an 18-3 tech.

Wow! Wasnt he wrestling 145 all yr?
Im confused, I thought the whole purpose behind all this alpha testing was to incorporate safe weight cutting???

Really, does anyone believe that alpha tests are for anything other than some semblance of legal protection? (I got the sarcasm.) Every one of us here can tell stories that are more the norm, I think, than the one-off situations ....

The +2 makes all the difference.

Greg, no, nobody believes it is anything other than CYA for the OHSAA. However, I will say that I believe Smith showed up to weigh in at All-North last week and was at 132.something. This would seem to indicate that he was, at least a week ago, moving closer to 126. He could be 132.1 and have been wrestling 145 so really, without knowing actual weights, it makes it look on the surface perhaps like a more drastic weight cut.

Absolutely agreed. My comment was not intended to be about Bobby, but about anyone placing any value in alpha testing and a weight management plan (actually the plan, if investigated can pose issues - again not necessarily for Bobby, but in general). Bobby at 126 makes 120 and 126 more interesting. (We may as well just go back to the old days of plastics taped at the wrists and ankles and laxatives - at least there were no rules, so there were no rule breakers.)

Im just asking cause I really dont understand it.
After re reading the rules and the way it was explained and implemented by our coaches that you had to follow the plan set forth by the alpha test. I have no dog in the fight at 26 or 45 for that matter(actually him dropping actually is to our benefit). I like Bobby, I just dont understand thats all. I dont want to see another Cody Pollitt situation again this yr. I know last yr mid season my son had to keep weighing in at a lower weight class so he didnt forfeit the right to drop to the class below that one cause thats what his alpha plan said. He wasnt even going to wrestle in that lower class unless their was an injury but thats what he had to do for a few weeks just in case he could go down.

Still need to make scratch first . . . 2012-13 OHSAA Wrestling Regulations
16. A. 1.8. F. GROWTH ALLOWANCE

* * *
3. In order to utilize the growth allowance, a wrestler shall compete at his/herlowest allowable weight in the desired weight class at least once prior tousing the two pound growth allowance.

And COMPETE at scratch....

Here is info from the OHSAA website (love how they are too lazy to update the numbers to reflect the new weight classes!!). This example seems to me to describe what possibly happened in Smith's case (if you plug in the new weight class numbers in red).... Also, now you would add in the 2 lb growth allowance.... So I see how this could conceivably have happened.

2. a. A wrestler with a lowest minimum weight of 125 126 is descending toward
his/her lowest minimum weight, but has yet to reach the lowest minimum
weight, and weighs in for competition. In compliance with his/her timeline
the wrestler weighs in at 132 135 (making him/her eligible at 135 138 and 140 145) and
wrestles at 140 145. The wrestler still retains the opportunity to continue to
descend toward the lowest minimum weight of 125 126 as he/she did not weigh
in more than one weight class above his/her lowest actual weight.

b. Two weeks later, the same wrestler in example 2a, who has now reached
his/her lowest minimum weight of 125, weighs in at 131 making him/her
eligible for the 135 and 140 pound weight class. That wrestler has now
surrendered his/her lowest minimum weight of 125 and 130 becomes the
wrestler’s new minimum weight.

So did he wrestle 145/138 after competing at 132?

interesting. i know this is sort of spelled out, but humor me here... lol

assume all this is ok according to my alpha weight loss plan and that my goal is to cut to 126.

on dec. 20 dual, I weight 131, eligible for 132. i wrestle 132.

on jan 17 dual i make scratch at 126, weighing 125.5. i wrestle 126.

on the jan 24 dual, i weigh 133 and wrestle 132 (OK because i get the two pounds). now, since i weighed over scratch at 132, then i CAN'T go back down to 126/128? i am stuck at 132?

thanks.

I'm pretty sure growth allowance gets factored in.

Similarly... Lowest minimum weight for heavyweight??? 215. After Christmas??? 217. You weigh 216.9??? You no wrestle heavyweight.

While we are talking weights and heavyweights...

Anytime we list a weight, we list it to the maximum. 106 is 106. 152 is 152. 182 is 182. Why is heavyweight always referred to as HVY. or HVW??? Why don't people just put 285???????? UGH!!!!!

Good question,

I guess it is in the interpretation and not for me to decide, I am not OHSAA - but (and I might be wrong here) it is my understanding you forefit your alpha if you go 2 classes up not 1. Meaning you are welcome to compete at 132 after making scratch 126, but will forefit 126 if you compete again at 138

Nope...I don't think that is correct. You forfeit your lowest alpha weight class if you weigh in MORE than one weight class above. However, you can wrestle up two weight classes and you still retain your lowest class.

Crusier_96 is correct (imagine that)! You can't weigh in more than one weight class above your lowest certified weight....After the 2lb. growth allowance though, 132 become 134. As long as you don't weigh 134.1 or more you retain the 126 (128) class.
