It makes me so angry. As a coach, sometimes I get more upset about a kid and grades than the kid....therein lies the problem. I know my brother ran study tables OVER CHRISTMAS BREAK and still had some guys not make grades. That's the kid's fault, not West, not coaches.lowsingle174;1384353 wrote:That sucks man. It happens every year.. Although, I have no remorse for anyone that doesn't make grades.
The Westies that are onboard and eligible are a formidable and talented group...I'm pumped to see a great city tournament! -
PaisanI like you lowsingle...who cares what Westie says.

Three weeks ago I think we were in the driver seat for the team title, with West, Mifflin, and Whetstone right there as well. Since then:knightflyer150;1384473 wrote:It makes me so angry. Lost our 145 lbser to grades, straight A and B student, but failed French not realizing that dropped him to 4.5 credits, even though I remind the kids over and over and over again that PE is not a full credit. Easily a kid that places 4-6.
Lost our 113 after a 4-0 performance at Westerville South to an appendisitis. Beat Mifflin kid twice. Great kid, feel for him. Easily places 4-6.
Then in the last two days:
Lost our 132, easily top two at the weight class, due to behavior problems in school.
Lost our 182, easily top three in that weight class, possibly bump him up to 195 where I think he wins it, due to behavior problems in school.
Was talking to an assitant football coach from Brookhaven, I know these issues are everywhere, in every program. These kids self sabotage themselves and their teams.
On the whole though, those kids that remain and are doing the right things are making it worth it. We had a great senior night and hoping that it rolls over into this Saturday. -
Tjones85I thought lucy wrested in Bishop Ready which means if he had below a 2.0 he had to use an acdemic probation if thats the case then he cant use it now for the second half. according to CCS student activies, because you cant use two probations two quarters in a row, ALSO fine print detail of same rule an athlete needs to get a 2.0 for this between the 1st and 2nd acdemic probation. Whetstone Would have a Nice sophmore Heavy weight that got 2nd last year in the line up if you could use 2 acdemic probations in a row.
And I blame the KIDS....STOP TALKING SHUT YOUR MOUTH SIT DOWN DO THE RIGHT THING. -
BewarethefatmanrollFrom what I heard Lucy wasn't grades, he got in trouble at a wrestling tournament.

coachchuckgrades hurt someone every year no matter how much you do study tables and preach it till your blue in the face

That is correct I believe. Interesting weight at 145. Mifflin still seems to be the favorite with or without Lucy.Tjones85;1384506 wrote:I thought lucy wrested in Bishop Ready which means if he had below a 2.0 he had to use an acdemic probation if thats the case then he cant use it now for the second half. according to CCS student activies, because you cant use two probations two quarters in a row, ALSO fine print detail of same rule an athlete needs to get a 2.0 for this between the 1st and 2nd acdemic probation. It is what it isI can't wait for Saturday! Lucy or no Lucy, Mifflin is coming to bang!! Like Cruiser says, "Come at me bruh!!

It is what it is, not sure if you are very close to the mifflin program, but I am very impressed with coach Caskas work there over the last few years. My freshman-junior years of high school, I believe Mifflin barely had a team, and not much talent at that. My senior year two kids caught my eye. Ezra Kenley and Mills. Since then a youth program has been established and I have seen Mifflin at tons of open mats and tournaments over the summer. Yes Mifflin did get the Tates from a transfer, but tough dudes like Mills, Boykins, and Hickman are all home grown. Congrats to the Punchers on being able to build a good program. It is what it is;1384757 wrote:I can't wait for Saturday! Lucy or no Lucy, Mifflin is coming to bang!! It is what it isAs close as one can get. Coach Ramirez started the building of Mifflin and Caska has built upon that with his youth involvement. The Tate's have been "part of the family" for years. Hopefully, Mifflin can be mentioned in the same breath as West, MF and Whetstone for years to come! Good luck on Saturday, I've liked West since Brian was coach and Dan, and now Scott, have continued the tradition!!

Mifflin has "Been on the Verge" for a few years now. Before I stepped down, I had a great talk with Coach Kaska. Like him or not, he brings his guys ready to go. Much respect for that. I believe that Marion Franklin will be back in a year or two as well, and don't count them out this weekend, they are 5 or 6x defending champs. As we have seen in the past, crazy things happen this weekend. It is what it is;1384807 wrote:As close as one can get. The same Props go out to coach Cat at south. Before he came in, they didn't even have a team, and now they are the squad that is "on the Verge". Anyone that is willing to put in the time with their team and show improvements gets much respect.
Here is a shout out to all assistant coaches that are involved as well. Not many get the props they truly deserve. Good luck to everyone, it will be nice to see some great competition on Saturday.
Paisan: I now consider you my mentor. The decision I made was the best thing I have ever done. I know you understand. See you in the weight room at 3pm -

95 Pounderhow many city leaguers will make it to the state this year ?
Mills and Alexander, any others ? -
knightflyer150West's 182, 220 and HWT should be in the mix for state qualification, with Stockton, the 220, the most serious threat.

lowsingle174
It depends on who gets hot at the right time.. There are a few names out there, with Alexander and Mills leading the charge.95 Pounder;1385008 wrote:how many city leaguers will make it to the state this year ?

I'm not super familiar with D2, but I'd have to think big Deante, Parkham and Monroe from MF would have a shot in D2.95 Pounder;1385008 wrote:how many city leaguers will make it to the state this year ?

Tjones85Ali- D2 sectionals does well gets a good draw at districts place 4th
lehnen- D1 same story but a little tougher road but sectional placement helps him alot
Smothers- D1 has a out side shot. depending on how he places at sectionals and his district seed, but i can see him placing at districts.
Stockton- But has to get out of sectionals first a good seed at the sectionals should help and considering all the D1 city coaches are at the same spot should help
Gray west..has a hard raod through districts, see him facing Guzan in quaters or semis at districts.
Gray MF-D2 dont know how many good hvys there are at d2 but i would think he at least places districts which means top four isnt out of reach
Alexandard- LOADED sectionals means Great path to make it out of districts. 3 of the top four at 138 will be at his sectional which mean they all get seperated at districts.
Mills- one word UNDEFEATED...
H. Tate- I like his shot would like to see the young man make it 2 years as a district qualifer isnt enough
Kids strong enough for districts
ali
booner
abdi
113- the top 4 seeds make it to districts
120- gasca
126- Nixon - made 2nd at the All north dont see how thats any weaker than sectionals
132- Smothers
138- Alexandar battels out and i like powell to make out as a 4th place
145-Mills , Parkham for d2 . Bowman and Starks battel in sectionals.
152- Bobo and Tate both out
160- Au who has beaten 6 of the kids at his sectional makes it out to districts. At sectionals I see Au and Juty 3rd and 4th, forgive my bias..and I think at sectionals and valentine at d2 makes it out
170- D1 is tough but North has a shot for districts, D2 Gibbons and Hill should make it out.
182 - Top 3 seeds make it out
195- Ellison has a nice shot
220- Stockton Judy both D1 i think Judy doesnt make it out. And Robinson makes it out at d2
Hvy both grays.
Any thought -

Are you saying Mills is undefeated at sectionals or undefeated? He shows one loss on Baumspage.Tjones85;1385042 wrote:Ali- D2 sectionals does well gets a good draw at districts place 4th

Who beat him anyway?.. -
Bewarethefatmanroll
His lone loss was at the Hamilton Township duals to the 152lber from Northridge. Very close match, came down to a call that could have went either way.lowsingle174;1385067 wrote:Are you saying Mills is undefeated at sectionals or undefeated? He shows one loss on Baumspage.

I was wondering who his loss was to. He is a tough kid. I hope he gets a good head of steam for the post season.Bewarethefatmanroll;1385068 wrote:His lone loss was at the Hamilton Township duals to the 152lber from Northridge. Very close match, came down to a call that could have went either way. -
cruiser_96Williams (NR)!?!?!? Hes a hammer!!! I think he was a top 5 place-winner last year. Not that any losses are all that good, but a close match with him is nothing to get dicouraged about.
I'm impressed. -
