I said it when I saw him wrestle at Brecksville that he would win a title, Some people were sceptical but this kid is good. He just knows how to win! Great job!

Sid, I don't think that story belongs on this thread!!! Start another thread on that subject.
  • Sid
    Wrong!
  • lennyrox55
Sid.....all that story confirms is he won the fight, and his dad made a huge mistake. This should be taken off immediately.
  • Sid
Why? Whats your problem? Did you see that kids face? His dad just pushed him down. Roy did the rest...its called Felony Assault! Why are you protecting him?! Nice you are so biased why? A violent criminal...you like him why...plus a damn facebook stalker after it happened...rly!!!!!
  • Shoot and Sprawl
The story is an allegation, not any sort of finding of guilt.
Furthermore, even if true, what would that mean?
A troubled kid moves to Ohio for a fresh start, finds a wise coach who teaches him to direct his talents for a more positive purpose and helps him grow as a man. Ultimately the kid and coach's effort result in the schools first state champion. Sounds like the stuff movies are made about.

Maybe Sid could even learn something from such a movie about redirecting his negative actions.
  • Sid
Wow, there is no defense for that! He attacked someone...did you see the picts? OMG!!! WTF is ur problem?! Felony Assult!? Shoot? I would love to meet you....and chat...this kid is an azz! Why are you supporting him? Hes a New York kid who ran from his problems to Central Ohio. But u love him why?
  • Sid
Too bad Mr. Pickett couldnt get it....dang! Great young man! Kinda sucks the criminal is our "move in" wins a title.

Shoot & Sprawl, Lenny -- to be fair, there is more to the story than the link to the initial story posted above. I'm not going to post anything, but a quick Google search if you are interested will provide the rest of the story. It's all public record......

That being said, Shoot & Sprawl, I agree with you. I think we all deserve a second chance, and by all accounts this kid has taken full advantage of his. If we could "wind the clock back", we would all be perfect. Of course that's not possible, so we do the best we can.

Roy....congrats on the title and good luck in your future endeavors.

Hey Sid, Maybe if you didn't hide behind your username and give us your info., we could dig up your past and throw it out there for everyone to see! Maybe you are the

only person I know that hasn't made a mistake in their life, but I doubt it! To throw this out there is just ignorant on your part. Don't know your age, but by doing this and
reading some of your other post, maybe you are just teenager which would help explain some of the things you post. Grow up Sid, Take on someone your own age. Have a good day! God bless!

I have met Roy many times, the kid is friends with my brother and has been around, and from what I've seen he is a very well spoken and nice kid. People make mistakes, situations like this happen to some of the best kids I know. Christ, I've been in basically (minus the dad) this exact same situation before. Kids fight, kids make mistakes.

Kids also win state championships, and adults get jealous and start digging up dirt. Any respect I can have for some dude I only know from asinine posts on the Internet is now gone. You are a sad man.
  • The2cKDude
On another note, congratulations are in order to Roy! Joey told me you were good, but I didn't realize how good!
  • wildcats1984
From a father with experience.... Kids make mistakes.....and we hope they learn from them....looks like to me Mr Daniels has put his efforts into a better area....until you see his name in a negative way (which I hope you dont) let the kid move on...

Over the past few months I have gotten to know Roy pretty well. Not only does he have an amazing work ethic in the wrestling room, but he is also a good person who I am glad to call a friend of mine. If anyone deserves to win a state title, regardless of what you may think, its Roy Daniels. He didn't move to Ohio to run from his problems, he moved here for a fresh start. We can all agree that everyone makes mistakes and he was able to overcome his in a great way. Say and think what you want to about Roy, but anyone who has gotten to know him the past months knows who he is and knows how hard he worked for this. There is A LOT more to the story then any of you know, so don't start forming opinions on him based on this. After all, he is an 18 year old kid who just achieved his dream. Is it too hard to just be happy for him?

Well said techfall152, maybe we all should get to know a person before we judge. (SID your parents should have taught you "not to judge a man, until you've walked a mile in his shoes") At the end of the day the kid is our 160lb Ohio State Champ, and for the rest of his life he should be proud. Thats one heck of an achievement that only 42 young men get to experience each year. I and my family are proud of Roy Daniels and all the other Champions in Ohio, regardless of their past.....

If someone called my black room mate the "N" word, I'm pretty sure he would go after them as well. Father made a mistake, but don't kids get in fights all the time?
  • hizzmuther
No Westie... kids do NOT get into fights all the time. This is the culture of the large inner-city high school, not of the Olentangies, the Hilliards, etc. etc. etc. Yes, some fights happen everywhere there are kids, but not many and not fights that result in those kind of injuries. Watch for this as you student teach in different environments. We can argue all day as to whether this particular fight was a fight or a beat down. We can argue whether it was justified or not justified, but I would like to believe that, with the benefit of hind sight, this kid now recognizes that there were better ways to handle it. And the next time he hears this word (and he will hear it again, even in our "enlightened" society) directed at him, a member of his family, or a friend, he handles it better. I hope he has the opportunity to do some community service when and if he is ready -- to address with other kids the pitfalls of fighting, the pitfalls of reacting violently, the pitfalls of having to take a geographic cure and to share with kids from other cultures the emotions attached to that particular slur.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If you're criticizing Daniels, you better have never been in a fight. Without knowing more information, I've got issues with the Father, but not really the kid. I had a classmate call me a spic early in my senior year in high school. He didn't look quite as bad as the photos above, but it was close. Was it unfortunate? Yes. Did I wish it wouldn't have happened? Sure. Did the kid get what he deserved? Absolutely. If your going to drop words like that, you better be ready for what comes your way.

Anyway, I don't know Mr. Daniels but this doesn't really effect how I feel about him winning a State title. I'm sure he worked hard and obviously it payed off. Congrats.

Congrats Roy. My daughter came home earlier this year and told me she met a new kid from New York who wrestles. She was very complimentary of you. I have not taken enough time to get to know you this year but our interactions have been nothing but positive. You should be proud of your accomplishments this year.

Sid, are you associated with a central Ohio team that has been in trouble for coaches hitting wrestlers? I really hope not.
