Devils D1 Darby Predictions!
-
USMCdevil2005It is here. Come Friday night we will see some fireworks. We will see blood, sweat, tears, and determination of all of these young men. All the hard work they have put in will show on the mat. Dreams will come true and dreams will be shattered and broken. It all comes down to Darby! This is my favorite tournament of the year!
I am just doing these to start up some conversation. And yes I accept t shirts as payment. size xl. lol. Just kidding.
106
1. Taleb Rahmani - Marysville
2. Dakota Riley - Mount Vernon
3. Luke Nace - Teays Valley
4. Payton Gutierrez - Pickerington North
5. Josh Wimer - Central Crossing
6. Robert Valenti - Hilliard Darby
The semi finals at this weight class are going to be phenomenal. Nace vs. Riley and Rahmani vs. Gutierrez. I have Riley beating Nace and Rahmani beating Gutierrez. In the go to match for the wrestle backs I think Nace beats Wimer in a close one and Gutierrez beats Valenti by atleast 5. It is hard to beat Taleb Rahmani twice. Let alone two weeks in a row. I think Taleb pulls out a close one. The sleeper in this weight class that someone should watch out for is Santino DiSabato. Also throw in Shakur Laney from Groveport. This kid is a scrapper man, always gives everyone he wrestles a very tough match.
113
1. Jacob Spearman - Lancaster
2. Jake Davis - Hilliard Davidson
3. David Sparks - Marysville
4. Kyle Dooley - Teays Valley
5. Greg Chang - Reynoldsburg
6. Max Orr - Pickerington North
Jacob Spearman is on a whole different level than everyone in this weight class. The kid is smooth, he is very technically sound and punishes everyone he wrestles. I think he is going to make a very magnificent run at the State Championship at 113lbs. In the top half of the bracket you have 4 wrestlers who could win on any given day. I think Jake Davis is peaking very well right now, Coach DiSabato always has these guys peaking at the perfect time, so he is the winner of the top half of the bracket I believe. I have sparks beating Fluty in the opening round, then Dooley in the quarters, but then losing to Spearman in the semis. In his go to match in the conso semis I have him beating Chang. Dooley will win his first round match against Conklin, then lose to Sparks. In the wrestle backs I have him beating Hogue, Henderson, and then Orr in the go to match. This is a weight class where really 2 -6 can be in any order on any given day. Sam Valenti and Tyler Hogue are the sleepers here. They will make some noise.
120
1. Tim Rooney - St. Charles
2. Xander Straughter - Reynoldsburg
3. Giuseppe Penzone - Olentangy Liberty
4. Brad Kakos - Franklin Heights
5. Chris Mulluceey - Dublin Coffman
6. Jordan Shoemaker - Grove City
Tim Rooney is a freshman. But the kid is on fire right now! His toughest match will be in the Semis against Penzone, who ever wins that match is your District Champion. I believe Rooney squeaks one out close. Mullucey is really 4th best here but I dont see him beating Penzone in the go to match. Kakos pulls off a close against shoemaker to get out. Ian Richeson is someone to watch out for in this weight class.
126
1. Trevor Fiorucci - Olentangy
2. Ryan Murdock - Dublin Coffman
3. Jake Donatelli - Hilliard Darby
4. Creed Milner - Zanesville
5. Seth McGurdy - Delaware Hayes
6. Lee Wilson - Hilliard Davidson
The top two here are heads above everyone else. Fiorucci is looking good and adjusting to his cut down to 126. The finals match between these two will be a great one. Definetly worth the admission price. 3 - 6 here could really go anyway. Donatelli is wrestling very well right now and I think will only lose to Fiorucci in the Quarters. Lee Wilson is a tough tough kid, but will he be healthy? If he is then he could very well get out and finally get the monkey of qualifying off his back. The Milner kid was wrestling a great match against Fiorucci until he got put on his back in a very tight cradle. He is a very strong kid though, tough to wrestle. I think a kid who could make some noise here also is Noah Holter from Watkins Memorial.
132
1. Cole Nace - Teays Valley
2. Drew McDougle - Gahanna Lincoln
3. Logan Strope - Lancaster
4. Cody Pollitt - Olentangy
5. Joe Schulze - Dublin Coffman
6. Sean Black - Hilliard Darby
The Nace/McDougle matches over the past 3 years have been a thrill to watch. These two never disappoint you! I don't know what the series is at right now exactly but I would have to say I think McDougle has it by 1 or 2. Nace looked a little slowed down last week in his match against McDougle, but I believe he will wrestle a little tougher and smarter in this one and pull it off. It will be a great match though. Logan Strope will lose to Nace in the semis and drop down to wrestle Sean Black of Hilliard Darby in the go to match. Sean Black is no slouch though, this young man is wrestling very tough right now. Strope has to shake his wrestle back jitters off this time or he could be staying home again. I don't think that is the case this time though. Yarger could make some noise here and possibly get out.
138
1. Noah Forrider - Marysville
2. Kasee McDougle - Gahanna Lincoln
3. Jake Ryan - Olentangy Liberty
4. Anthony Alexander - Northland
5. Tanner Miller - Lancaster
6. Nick Lancia - Watkins Memorial
In my opinion the semi finals match here between Forrider and Ryan is the highlight of the tournament. Too bad they didn't get paired up on opposite sides. I think Forrider pulls it out in a close one this time. Alexander could upset McDougle in the semis. I think McDougle out wrestles him though. Gahanna has a little tougher schedule than Northland. I see him dropping down and beating Miller from Lancaster in the go to match though. Had Lancia been cross bracketed on the other side of the wrestle backs he could have possibly gotten out, but I don't see him beating Ryan from Liberty in that go to match.
145
1. Travis Luft - Teays Valley
2. Dez Hauber - Central Crossing
3. Chase Boyd - Marysville
4. Ason Sunkle - Pickerington Central
5. Conor Driscoll - Hilliard Bradley
6. Dalton Tullius - Canal Winchester
In my opinion this is the toughest weight class in the whole tournament. Travis Luft will have to put together 4 great matches to make sure he gets the top spot here at Darby. He will have Horner in the first round, Tullius in the Quarters, and then Boyd in the Semis. The Boyd/ Luft match will be different this time around. Boyd is on fire right now but I think Luft had a bit of a wake up call after losing to him last time. In the finals he will have a tough opponent in Hauber. Dez Hauber wrestles very smooth and he is QUICK! Fosco is a kid here that could throw a wrench into things, but from what I saw last week, I think Tate beats him in the first round and then he loses to Tullius in the conso quarters. That is if Tullius is healthy! Conor Driscoll is another one who could make some noise. This weight class is simply loaded! There are 10 kids here who could actually be your District Champ but we all know there can only be one.
152
1. Jake Zoller - Hilliard Bradley
2. Chase Delande - Hilliard Davidson
3. Joey Cameron - Watkins Memorial
4. Royce Calloway - Canal Winchester
5. Tyler Miller - Marysville
6. Sean Wotring - Logan
Zoller will have to wrestle his butt off to beat Delande, but the kid is having a great year. I think he wins in overtime here. Cameron is looking tough since he has been back and should get out. Calloway is wrestling very tough right now. I think he beats Miller in the go to match. Miller is very tough too though. 3-6 could really go anyway. I think Cameron is 3rd best here though. One to watch out for is Zane Chappalear from Grove City. He is tough kid and is right on the edge of getting to that next level.
160
1. Roy Daniels - Olentangy Liberty
2. Alex Mickley - Hilliard Davidson
3. Zach Brown - Westerville Central
4. Matt Walker - Hilliard Darby
5. Ethan Bond - Lancaster
6. Tyler McCourt - Dublin Coffman
In my opinion Roy Daniels is your 160lb State Champion. The kid is good! He is very smooth and wrestles aggressive against every opponent. The Mickley/Brown match in the semis will be a good one too. Really that one could go either way but I think Mickley pulls it off. Brown will drop down and wrestle Bond in that go to match and finally get out! -
USMCdevil2005170
1. Vince Pickett - Central Crossing
2. Brian Fox - Dublin Scioto
3. Tyler Bowens - Hilliard Darby
4. Sam Riggs - Hilliard Bradley
5. Skyler Sowry - Upper Arlington
6. Caleb Duffey - Westerville Central
Vince Pickett his way ahead of everyone in this weight class. I think he beats Martin next weekend in Columbus to be your 170lb State Champion. He is going to Edinboro for his collegiate career, too bad we couldn't have made him a Buckeye! The Fox/Bowens match in the first round will be the highlight of the Friday night! As the great Cruiser says, " Friday Night Fireworks!" I think Fox pulls it off in a closer match this time against Bowens. The Sowry kid is very tough, he could possibly get out but I don't see him beating 2 time state qaulifier Bowens in the go to match.
182
1. Brocky Leidecker - Teays Valley
2. Garrett Foster - Pickerington Central
3. Austin Pfarr - Marysville
4. Andrew Shackelford - Thomas Worthington
5. Matt Lybarger - Mount Vernon
6. Ricky McGrath - Hilliard Bradley
The past two years Brocky Leidecker has wrestled Brandon Walker of Springboro in the Quarter Finals. Since there are no Dayton schools here this year, he wont have that problem. Granted he is going to have a tough road to win the title against Shackelford in the Quarters and Pfarr in the semis. Then he will have Foster in the finals who put together a good match last week against Leidecker. Foster wrestles very slow and blocks alot, but if isn't broke, don't fix it. I think Leidecker wins the District Title and becomes Teays Valleys first ever 4 time State Qualifier. Foster will have a tough road to get to the finals as well. Should Lybarger beat him then we could see Lybarger in the district finals. 2-5 could almost go anyway. I think McGrath just doesn't have enough firepower to get out. He is very strong but lacks technique.
195
1. Mike Mayberry - Worthington Kilbourne
2. J.J. Chowoe - Pickerington Central
3. Caleb Dick - Grove City
4. Wehseh Juty - Briggs
5. James Lowery - Upper Arlington
6. Lenn's Kamba - Olentangy Orange
Mayberry is having a great season. The only thing he may lack against Chowoe is the fact that Pick Central wrestles a way tougher schedule than Kilbourne. I wish I knew how to pronounce the Juty kids name lol. He is very strong though, tough to wrestle against. I keep picking Kamba. I think the kid is right there and something is about to click and he will be unstoppable. Very strong kid, he is going to be very tough the next 2 years! One to watch out for here is Reed from Reynoldsburg, he is wrestling very tough as of late.
220
1. Wesley King - Dublin Scioto
2. Alex Stinemetz - Olentangy
3. Spencer Marshall - Lancaster
4. Brett Mowery - Dublin Jerome
5. Zach Hall - Olentangy Orange
6. CJ Kinzer - Teays Valley
This should be a great finals match between King and Stinemetz. I think King pulls it out in a close one though. Marshall will have to put together a really good match against Hall in the go to round. Max Lacey from Canal Winchester is someone who could make some noise here. The top 2 are pretty much feats above the others, but this is a bracket were you could see alot of new names at 3-6.
285
1. Pat Elflein - Pickerington North
2. Colton Christner - Delaware Hayes
3. Luke Fleming - Olentangy Liberty
4. Yoshi Akutsu - Dublin Scioto
5. Kyle Thirkield - Marysville
6. Bryan Young - Olentangy
The semi finals match here with Elflein and Fleming is the highlight of this weight class. Whoever wins there is your District Champ. I think Elflein wins and keeps his perfect record. Next year we will all get to see Elflein sporting a different kind of uniform while he plays football for "The" Ohio State University. I think Christner has the best draw out of everyone here. He should beat Young in the Quarters and Akutsu in the Semis. Akutsu drops down and wrestles a tough match against Thirkield to get out. That match could really go either way, but Akutsu is wrestling really tough lately.
Team Race
District Champions - Marysville
District Runner Up - Olentangy
Marysville will Qualify 5 but have a ton of bonus points coming from Miller, Taylor, and Thirkield. With 2 Champions I think they should seal the deal and take the District Team title home. Olentangy will only Qaulify 3, but have a district champion in Fiorucci. They will also have a ton of bonus points coming from a lot of their other kids. Should Fosco qualify they could push Marysville for the title but I think Marysville is a little too much for them.
Teams on the Prowl -
Olentangy Liberty - They could very well have 4 District Champions in Penzone, Ryan, Daniels, and Fleming. Daniels should win his weight class, but Penzone, Ryan, and
Fleming will have very tough Semi Finals matches. Should they have 4 Champs and score some points from Robinson in the wrestle backs and him
Possibly get out, they could very well be your District Championship Team again!
Teays Valley - With 3 Champs and 5 total qualifiers they will bring a lot of points to the board. Nace has to win against Strope in the Semis and McDougle in the Finals.
This will be no easy road for him. Leidecker is most likely to win his weight. Luft will have to put together 4 tough matches but I think he does that here.
Nace and Dooley will have to wrestle very tough in there wrestle backs but should be ready to go. They're both peaking at the right time. Kinzer should
be 6th here and score some points. With points coming from King, Ferrell, Cornett, Maynard, and Sharp as well they are definetly in the race for a team title
Hilliard Davidson, Lancaster, Hilliard Darby, and Dublin Coffman will all score some major points as well.
* I'm going out on a hunch here and saying the mighty Cruisers of Groveport could have a say in the team race as well! -
ptown3Yarger 132, in the quaters at sectionals was winning 11-4 against pollit then stuck him with three seconds left, then in the 3rd 4th place match lifted for a double into a crazy scramble and pollit stuck him. Yarger gets 4th at district. No disrespect! Thanks for the rankings Devil!
-
cruiser_96The last line won me over. The rest is not XL worthy.
Excellent read. Loved it. I disagree with a couple (few), but I get it.
Thx -
USMCdevil2005
I agree. I meant to put him in a slash with Pollitt. These two both put on a good show everytime they wrestle. I don't think Yarger gets past Schulze in the first round, but it will be a close one. I see him dropping down and wrestling all the way back to conso quarters and having a great match with Pollitt, whoever wins that match should get out. BUt Pollitt has a tough first round match against Black from Darby. Black is no slouch.ptown3;1091447 wrote:Yarger 132, in the quaters at sectionals was winning 11-4 against pollit then stuck him with three seconds left, then in the 3rd 4th place match lifted for a double into a crazy scramble and pollit stuck him. buckeye32yarger dominated pollit like ptown3 said, he beats pollit in rematch

Lol. I knew i'd get some Cruiser bonus points for that one. I just have fun doing these every year. Makes for good reading and discussion. See ya Friday my friend.cruiser_96;1091456 wrote:The last line won me over. The rest is not XL worthy.

buckeye32haven't seen schulze wrestle, he pretty tough?
-
buckeye32also boyd beats luft and sunkle beats fosco
-
USMCdevil2005Schulze is tough. He is a really strong kid. Schulze/Yarger/Pollitt will all battle for that spot to get out.
-
buckeye32i agree
-
Standoff22I don't feel there's any way Riley loose to Rahmani. My son wrestles for neither of these schools so I feel I'm unbiased here. Riley majored him and I think it well at least be that difference again. That's just my opinion.

DirtyscrambleI cant read this, Makes Teays look like next coming of Jesus.
-
DirtyscrambleAnd if you ask Nathan Tomasello, Spearman doesn't punish everyone he wrestles
-
snugglyhippoWho is Nathan Tomasello?

bw133Love some of the upsets! seems like a march madness bracket

iGranbyI agree about Riley...he's on the next level..I'm interested in how many times he has to beat (Handle is the real word i want to use, but, I'll be civil.) all of these other top guys for you all to understand that, haha. I also have no affiliation with Mt Vernon or any school in the question at 106, just to verify, lol.

knightflyer150There is definitely a Teays Valley flavor to these, but thanks for your work. It is always fun to break down brackets and gives the fan something to get excited about.
I think we'll show up and try to wrestle, anyway, just for giggles -
scarlet-n-gray
I like your top 2 at 195, but I don't think you can overlook Taylor. He is strong, athletic, and wrestled some tough tournaments. He took 3rd at Top Gun. I don't see him getting past Mayberry, but I don't think he loses after that one. I have him beating Caleb Dick to take 3rd.USMCdevil2005;1091427 wrote:170

1. Mike Mayberry - Worthington Kilbourne
2. J.J. Chowoe - Pickerington Central

As for the 220's, it nice to see King get some love. All he does is win. I agree with you, the thorn in his side is Stinemetz who accounts for 3 of his four losses this year. IMO it's a mental thing. He has wins over at least 3 different opponents that beat Stinemetz this year. As they say, sometimes you run into a match up problem. However, I'm not so sure Stinemetz makes it to the finals. That semi match with Mowery presents a daunting task for Stinemetz. He lost to Mowery in their OCC dual meet. In fact, Mowery only has one loss at 220lbs this year. I'm not so sure he is that far behind King and Stinemetz if he is in fact behind them. I've seen both Marshall and Mowery wrestle. They are both very good, but I can't see Marshall beating Mowery in the quarter final match. -
USMCdevil2005
And that's your opinion. Say what you want but they will have 4 kids atleast qualify. Luft and Leidecker both should win. Nace can beat McDougle and has already beat Strope comfortably this year. Dooley is on the edge but he is wrestling very tough lately. So do you really think that all that was said about Teays and the guys they are bringing is not realistic? No it is very realistic. Travis Luft is tough, Brocky Leidecker has beaten every opponent pretty much in the central district, Lybarger is about the only one left he hasn't wrestled. Am I a little biased Dirty? Yes, but everything i said about them is something that could happen and has a great chance to happen. Nace has beaten everyone in his bracket this year as well, atleast the top name kids he has. Little Nace has not wrestled Wimer yet, but I think he beats wimer. Wimer got thrashed by Rahmani and nace beat Rahmani 5-0 at Brecksville.Dirtyscramble;1091497 wrote:I cant read this, Makes Teays look like next coming of Jesus.
You think what you want and have your opinion too, lets see your rankings. -
USMCdevil2005Taylor is really good too. He will give everyone a good match. I had it as him losing to kamba and then to Juty in the wrestle backs. But I like Kamba, I think the kid is going to suprise everyone. He wrestled tough at Districts last year so well see. 195 is really a weight class that any of these guys have a shot to win it or get out. It is very open and other than Mayberry lacks that star fire power like a lot of the other weight classes
