    Gonna wreak havoc.

wow im suprised lebanon went to Fairfield!
  • ontheline
The fact that #1 - #3 and #7 - #10 chose Darby surprised me! Dayton teams must believe Fairfield is extremely tough or Darby is extremely weak. I hope the CD wrestlers roll out the welcome mats then pin'em to those very same mats! :)

Although I love my central District and would love nothing more than to have the CD prove Dayton wrong... Dayton has some hammers coming to town.

I agree BW. I look forward to watching them. Shivener (sp?) is at the top of my list of Daytyon wrestlers that I look forward to watching.

Barklay for Centerville will probably will be wrestling 112, as he won't be able to beat Watson once Watson goes down to 103. Watson placed 6th at the fairfield district last year. I guess you can replace his name for hammer at 103 for cville. Centerville also has a few other wrestlers who will give CD guys fits. 215 Hunter is no slouch.

That suprises me. I watched them both wrestle recently and it seems Barklay is much better than Watson. If not this year, I think Barklay has a nice future for Centerville.

I havent seen either wrestle this yr but saw both in MS and I agree that IMO Barklay will be a force in the future.

    103: Barklay / Watson - Centerville
    Brandon Stradling - Troy
    Jacob Sharp - Sidney

    112: Jordan Branham - Miamisburg

    119: Cody Davis - Sidney
    Jordan Puska - Edgewood

    125: Josh Stevens - Beavercreek
    Cole Cockran - Troy

    130: Cody Shivener - Springboro

    135: Josh D'Urso - Springboro

    140: Aaron Thoman - Springboro
    Tommy Willis - Beavercreek

    145 Derek Spangler - Sidney

    152: Nick Corba - Beavercreek
    Max Greer - Northmont

    160: Darian Ginter - Sidney

    171: Brandon Walker - Springboro
    Jonah Newburg - Northmont
    Darryl Grayson - Springfield
    Steven Jones - Sidney

    189 - Jake Carmen - Centerville
    Paul Winkler - Northmont
    Stewart Vicek - Springfield

    215: Ryan Jackson - Springboro
    Devin Nye - Springfield
    Tanner Wright - Vandalia Butler

    285: Kyle Rose - Centerville
    Tyler Tracy - Springboro

The Dayton district is loaded with good heavier weights. IMO, 3 of the 4 listed get out at 171, unless Walker is at 160 by then.

Is it official that Cody Shivener will wrestle 130?

Watson is just too strong for Barklay at this moment, and I believe he is pretty damn strong for the whole weight class. I do believe both guys have a bright future for Centerville, just as long as one of them grows so they both can be in the lineup.

I doubt Walker goes 160 he has been wrestling 189 all year. Is it official that wright dropped to 215? How about Willis dropping to 140?

I would also add jason hunter at 215 from Centerville.

Not sure about these springfield guys. As always most have inflated records due to a poor schedule, but we will see.

Grayson (171) - 2nd, Vlcek (189) - 6th, Nye (215) - 5th were the three Springfield wrestlers who placed at GWOC. Grayson's 2 loses have come to Jake Watkins in December and Newburg this weekend. No cream puffs for sure. Vlcek lost all of his matches this weekend by 1 point each. Nye Lost to Ryan Jackson of Springboro and fell victim to a Head and Arm with 20 Seconds left in the last consoles or would have placed higher.

These three Springfield wrestlers can only wrestle the schedule that is set before them. They have no control over that. Yet, what they accomplished this weekend was not against weak opponents. They wrestled kids from Beavercreek, Springboro, Northmont, Miamisburg, Butler, Wayne, and Fairmont. I don't think "weak" is a description that fit any of those programs. Here's another though Grayson was a DQ last year and Vlcek was an Alternate. They earned those spots at the Sectional against good wrestlers from good programs.

Indeed. At least those 3 do their job with the schedule that is handed to them. There is no denying that the schedule is weak, or isn't as strong as the programs you listed (omit wayne, and you forgot centerville btw). If the GWOC is the toughest tournament on their schedule, then that says a lot about the schedule. Springfield lost to Centerville's b team at the west liberty salem tournament. That says a lot about either the team, the schedule, or both.

I will say this Grayson looked tough. Very athletic. Not sure how strong Darby is at 171, but he might have an outside shot at getting to state. If he works hard in the off season there is definitely no reason why he shouldn't be wrestling at the state tournament before his career is over.

Nye will get to districts and probably be the 3rd seed at the sectional tourney. He and Hunter will be a solid semi final matchup.

Vleck is going to have a hard time getting out to districts imo. He is going to have winkler(northmont), carman (centerville), hamilton (beavercreek), paulson (miamisburg) to get through.

    Thanks for your feedback.

First, Springfield does not have a full squad. We did not have wrestlers all year at 3, 12, or 19. Our DQ Hvy decided he didn't want wrestle after the NE duals. So that leaves four holes with 0 points each tournament. Even with those holes, Springfield was very competitive as a team being led by Grayson, Vlcek, and Nye. There is another Grayson at 125 who has all the technical skills, but making the adjustment from MS to HS wrestling has been up and down. Plus, outside of the Grayson boys, only the 160 (Weber) and Vlcek have more than four years wrestling experience. Try having a competitive D1 team with that total wrestling experience. Moreover, only Grayson and Vlcek are returning letterman. Every other Springfield wrestler is a varsity newby. Weber was in an out of the lineup last year as an extra.

That said, a tougher schedule wouldn't hurt the Grayson's, Vlcek, or Nye.

Getting to Darby will not be easy for Grayson. Newburg and Walker will probably be seated 1st and 2nd with Grayson being 3rd. To get to Darby he will have to beat at least one of them or possibly both. Can he do this, possibly if he wrestles his style. I agree Vlcek has the toughest go to get to Darby. Winkler, Carmen, Paulson and Hamilton are all tough. Yet, Vlcek should have beat Paulson twice last weekend. (Lost both by 1 points and was ahead in the 1st match). However, Paulson found a way to win. Vlcek has the ability to get to Darby, but he will have to beat two of those four to get there. Tough draw. Nye has it a little easier and it is highly unlikely that he will miss either Rose or Jackson at Sectionals.

If Grayson gets to Darby, he will get to State.

BTW Grayson and Vlcek are Jr's.

The top 4 go to Darby. Grayson should not have a problem with that. But once you get to Darby, there are 3 more ranked kids to contend with in addition to Newburg and Walker. Grayson has the physical talent, but he looked visibly frustrated against Newburg. He needs to stay confident and focused for 6 minutes to get to State.
