As we close in on another state championship, I am thrilled that school is optional this week. The school was closed on Monday for a "Victory Monday" after a dominant win in the state semifinal. If students bring a note, they will get an excused absense on Thursday to tailgate and Friday to recover. There is no place like Massillon. Go Tigers!

Based upon the Ohio Department of Education's report card ranking of every school district in Ohio, it looks like school is optional every week in Massillon.

More is learned through football than in the classroom anyway. Football teaches real-life skills, while most of what is learned in the classroom doesn't apply to real-life.  Some districts focus so much on academics that it becomes a distraction, and kids miss workouts. I promise you, we will never let this sort of thing happen in Massillon.

Please.....we r all sports guys and feel like our sports lives have shaped us a lot but to say you learn more from HS football than the classroom is just stupid.

Well then, it looks like the town's priorities are where they need to be.  And come to think of it, you are correct.  Nothing would prepare you better for a life spent in Massillon, Ohio than making HS football a priority for those who play and those who watch.  With long-term economic stagnation, a landscape of shuttered factories, a raging opioid epidemic, high unemployment, high poverty and lack of cultural opportunities, the focus should be on children playing sports and the rest of the town watching them.

Man, that 1909 team you guys had was great!

It's very clear that you are just jealous of the success of Massillon football. We put Ohio on the map with our 9 national titles. Everywhere that you go in the country, people know the Massillon Tigers. We have the only high school game that you can bet on in Vegas. It is one of the biggest days of the year for sportsbooks there. Without Massillon football, Vegas would just be a small water stop in the desert.

Not everyone can be as smart as you and me. I think that we are the only Massillon fans left. We both predicted big things for the combine era. We have brought in too much talent not to win multiple championships.

I figured he was.  But as with stereotypes, there is always a grain of truth in there.

Moe Greene owes a debt of gratitude to Massillon.

Exhibit A is them scoring 100 points on the place that had more in common with the school on Little House of the Prairie than with a typical HS football team.

Or maybe do a little research and realize the are the equivalent of an Ohio D3 school who has been competitive. So your little house on the prairie comment is either you being a liar or an idiot....or both.

The team that we put up 100 on is very similar to Kenston. They are probably a better version of Kenston. I think that they would win the D3 title in Ohio if they didn't have to play us. They were never the same team after the beating that we put on them.
